An alliance of peak Islamic groups has called for Australia’s terrorism laws to be changed, to remove the concept of “religiously motivated terrorism” from the legislation.
It comes as a sixth teenager, aged 15, was charged after counterterrorism raids were carried out in Sydney on Wednesday.
Five teenagers, aged 14 to 17, were previously charged with several offences and are before the courts.
In a statement, the Australian National Imams Council, the Alliance of Australian Muslims and the Australian Muslim Advocacy Network said it was necessary to “avoid simplistic attributions that target specific communities”.
The group’s spokeswoman Ramia Abdo Sultan said terrorism was driven by political ideology and not religion.
“The presumption that terrorism is inherently tied to religion is not only inaccurate but harmful,” Ms Abdo Sultan told a press conference.
“This misconception persists despite extensive scholarly work demonstrating that terrorism is driven by political and ideological motives, not religious faith.”
The alliance of Islamic groups did not take questions during the four minute press conference, telling the assembled media that they could submit questions by email.
Ms Abdo Sultan also singled out ASIO Director-General Mike Burgess and said the use of racial and religious profiling and the failure of law enforcement agencies to consult with the Muslim community further undermined social cohesion.
“The use of charged language such as “religiously motivated Sunni violent extremism” by the Director-General of ASIO Mike Burgess, particularly during sensitive times … fuels Islamophobia and further marginalises the Muslim community,” she said.
“This approach undermines social cohesion and perpetuates the stigmatisation of an entire religious group based on the actions of a few.”…

And tell us who defined and certified, other than muslims, this mental illness, “islamophobia.” Next explain how islam itself is not political. Then tell us how the declaration by the jihadis that they did this in the name of islam means it wasn’t done in the name of islam. Explain how islamic sanction for evil somehow means identifying as a muslim means one doesn’t sanction evil. Then tell us why muslims get off so lightly on hate crimes, and why the demand for even less scrutiny.
All of this might take more than 4 minutes, involve responding to legitimate charges, and might require a male who can explain why they keep sending their mere half-human, livestock-equivalent females out to do their dirty work.

They are probably becoming a little worried that even the dimmest of dimwitted fuckwits out here in Australia, and the authorities and most of the media have been complicit for ages by not saying that it is a Muslim terrorist attack or an islamic terrorist attack or planned attack when such things have happened, are waking up and can see clearly that it is always stinking islam and its evil followers who are murdering and trying to murder non-Muslims. The “ideology”…the “political” part comes from the same book as the parts they consider to be religious…even the same verses.

What do Muslims actually say, when challenged, about those calls in the Koran for Muslims to do and kill the non-believers when the chance arises, somehistory? Do they say, oh, that doesn’t really mean what it says at all, so those calls to murder non-believers just don’t matter. Of course, i realise that many muslims, most Muslims, don’t actually go and kill non-Muslims although many do. For me, those calls in the Koran, and all the endless hatred towards non-Muslims in that foul book finishes islam for me. I consider it to be such an evil religion. Other religions don’t have that hatred and don’t call on their members to go out and kill non-members of the religion. That’s enough for me to hate islam. Of course,then there is also all the other evil, barbaric content of islam as well, the child brides, honour killings, etc. islam is just no damned good in any way whatsoever. Nobody should remain a member of any religion so full of hate and that tells its members to kill non-believers in that religion.
