Al Jazeera Publishes Egyptian Journalist’s Antisemitic Screed

The Egyptian writer Anwar Al-Hawary attempts to explain the “power of the Jews” in the Western world: “The mask slips: Al Jazeera publishes classic antisemitism,” Elder of Ziyon, April 12, 2024:

The Jews have always been a force of danger and influence everywhere they have a presence, even when they were without a state, even when they were subjected to persecution from the middle of the nineteenth century in Tsarist Russia, to approximately the middle of the twentieth century in Nazi Germany. In these hundred years, the Jews had an ability that was not available to any people other than them, the ability to deal with several empires, and even to toy with them, and to play them against each other. They played with the money they had and the experience in managing it, they played with the superior personalities they had, they played with the connections and instinct they had for espionage, conspiracy, and plotting.”

Ah, yes, let us remember the days of the antisemitic Black Hundreds (chernosotentsy) in Russia— also known as the Soyuz Russkogo Naroda (Union of the Russian People), the swooping down of Cossack cavalry on peaceful shtetls to kill their inhabitants, those supposedly “powerful” Jews — as Al-Hawary calls them — who in fact lived in the kind of poverty called “abject.” Let’s remember, too, the 1906 pogrom in Kishinev, in which many hundreds of impoverished and helpless Jews were murdered. And don’t forget poor Mendel Beilis, accused of a ritual murder in Kiev in 1911, who miraculously was acquitted. None of these poor and wretched Jews who were persecuted and murdered in pre-Revolutionary Russia fits the description of powerful and conniving masters of the universe that Al-Hawary wants us to accept.

Al-Hawary continued in his Al Jazeera piece:

The last hundred years witnessed the development of the influence of the Jews within America, and then their influence on its policy in the Middle East. America was in many ways trying to balance between the Jews and the Arabs, but it always failed under the influence of the Jews’ control over the financial circles, the press, and the media, and their financing of the presidential and congressional elections, and it will continue. This situation is until the Americans discover what the British have already discovered: the idea of Israel is a lost cause….

Jews in America were hardly in a position, as Al-Awary seems to think, to control the “financial circles” of the country. Morgan, Ford, Rockefeller, Frick, Carnegie — these were the men who made the great fortunes in the 19th century. In the late 20th and early 21st centuries, the great American fortunes belong to the Walton Family, the Mars Family, the Koch brothers, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Warren Buffett, Lauren Jobs, with only a handful of Jews — Mark Zuckerberg, Michael Bloomberg, Larry Page and Sergey Brin — in the mix. Al-Hawary has only a dim understanding of the American rich.

Al-Hawary describes what he believes is Jewish mastery in so many fields, and especially in financial and political matters, but does so not to elicit admiration but, rather, fear. He exaggerates Jewish mastery in a half-dozen fields. He exaggerates Jewish financial and political power. But to explain to the Egyptian public why the tiny country of Israel manages to fend off those who would destroy it, and continue to thrive as the “Start-Up Nation,” despite 75 years of Arab enmity, it is best to present Israel, the Jewish state, as not only powerful by itself, given the superior abilities, according to Al-Hawary, of its people, but also benefiting from the “powerful” and “rich” Jews in other countries, especially America where, according to Al-Hawary, Jews are in control. Of course, were Jews really so powerful politically, they should have been able to prevent the UN from turning into a kangaroo court with Israel perennially in the dock. Instead, Israel is the most vilified nation on earth, both at the UN and at the IJC. And there is the biggest puzzlement of all: if Jews are so all-powerful, why is it they couldn’t prevent the Holocaust?

Israel is now being berated worldwide, including in the United States, for not declaring a ceasefire in the war for the state’s survival that is now being fought in Gaza by the IDF against Hamas. The IDF will keep on keeping on. It won’t let those four intact battalions of Hamas in Rafah escape dismantling, for were that to happen, Hamas would be seen as the “victor” in the war, still standing after six months, and that, in turn, would allow it, after a suitable period to regroup, to do as it has promised, that is, to repeat the attack of October 7 “again and again and again.”

For fighting that war with Hamas to the finish the Jews of Israel need not be übermenschen, of the kind described by Al-Hawary. They need only be “a people alone,” who have suffered more than any other people on earth, who know what they need to do to stay alive — a knowledge that is disappearing in much of the Western world, where a demographic jihad proceeds apace and Western leaders, at a complete loss, do not know where to put their feet or hands. They might learn something from the people of Israel.
