Mohamed Hadid has said that Joe Biden will be hunted down “like a Nazi war criminal” for his support of Israel: “Mohamed Hadid: We will hunt down ‘Zionist criminals’ like Biden for court,” by Michael Starr, Jerusalem Post, March 4, 2024:
“We don’t need to ask for a ceasefire,” Hadid wrote on Instagrams. “We demand a ceasefire.”
Hadid explained that Palestinians were indigenous to the territory, and therefore, the impetus [sic for “onus”][ was on Israelis to submit to their demands.
History is not Hadid’s strong suit. It is the Jews who are the true indigenes in the land that that Hadid calls “Palestine,” no doubt unaware that the toponym “Palestine” was imposed by the Romans to replace the place name “Judea” in order to efface the Jewish connection to the land. The Jews have been living in the territory known to them as the Land of Israel for the past 3500 years. The Palestinians — Muslim Arabs — could not have arrived in the Land of Israel earlier than 1400 years ago, which is when Islam first appeared. Many rulers over that territory “from the river to the sea” have come and gone, while Jews continued to live uninterruptedly, albeit in small numbers, in their land. They were ruled by Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Crusaders, and eventually, for 400 years, by the Ottoman Turks. But their attachment to that small sliver of land never diminished; Jews living far from Israel would comfort mourners thus: “May the Almighty comfort you amongst the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.”
“We demand an end to the occupation and an end to colonialism,” said Hadid. “In short, get the hell out of Palestine.”
What a nasty piece of work this Mohamed Hadid turns out to be, in his business dealings, in his anti-Israel animus, in his unseemly display of anger with the country that has so generously hosted him and his vacuous brood. Who does he think he is, “demanding” that the President bring about an “end to occupation”? What “occupation” is he talking about? Not. a single Israeli has been in Gaza since 2005, when every last Israeli was pulled out of the Strip in the misguided hope that the Gazans would then build up their own polity and stop making war on Israel. That was not to be.`
And an “end to colonialism”? The Jews cannot be “colonizing” the very land that as a people they have lived in, for 3500 years, the place where Jewish history was made. They cannot colonize themselves. There is no Jewish metropolis somewhere sending out Jewish “colonists” to settle on land to which they have no historical claim, the way the French government sent French people to colonize Algeria, or the British sent British people to colonize Kenya.
But there is one people — the Arabs — who turn out to be the most successful colonists in world history. They swept out of Arabia, beginning in the seventh century, and conquered lands in the Middle East and North Africa, settling among, and ruling over, many non-Arab and non-Muslim peoples, including Berbers, Copts, Kurds, Chaldeans, Assyrians, Sudanese blacks, and others too. They managed to convert many of those they conquered to Islam, to impose widespread use of the Arabic language (necessary for reading the Qur’an), and even encouraged the adoption of Arabic names by those they conquered, as part of completing the “arabization” of millions of non-Arabs. Many of those who had been conquered were gradually made to believe that they, too, belonged to the class of the Arab conquerors.
Mohamed Hadid needs a lesson in the history of the Jews and of the Land of Israel, as well as a parallel lesson on the history of the recently-invented (circa 1967) “Palestinian people,” and their connection — or lack of it — to what they call “Palestine.” But he also needs a lesson in American law. To wit: US Criminal Code Title 18, Section 871. There he will find that a conviction for “threatening the President” is a class D felony. It is punishable by up to 5 years in prison, a maximum fine of $250,000, a $100 special assessment, and up to 3 years of supervised release.
Do Mohamed Hadid’s threats against Biden rise to the level of the kind of threat that USC Title 18, Section 871, was intended to punish? Hadid’s exact words were “he [Biden] will be in court with the rest of the Zionist criminals. We will hunt them down like they did the Nazis.” He would argue “no.” But I think a judge would conclude that saying “we will hunt them down like they did the Nazis,” meaning by “them” to refer to “Zionist criminals” including, Hadid insists, President Biden, does indeed constitute a serious threat to the President under USC Title 18, Section 871. Hadid’s statement might be considered a call for others to “hunt [Biden] down,” which sounds like a threat to have Biden chased down and seized. Hadid’s words might lead someone unhinged by his own hatred for Israel to act upon Hadid’s call. The statute doesn’t require a threat of death; a threat to kidnap the president is enough to constitute a serious crime. It is a felony to “knowingly and willfully make any threat to take the life of, to kidnap, or to inflict bodily harm upon, the President of the United States.” If I were you, Mr. Hadid, I’d be worried.
