New York City: Muslim Assailants of Jewish Man Given Serious Time

No slap on the wrist for Mohammed Said Othman, the fourth to be tried of a group of Muslims who assaulted Joseph Borgen in Manhattan three years ago. Instead, Othman has been sentenced to three years in prison, which will give him plenty of time to dwell on what he will do as a convicted felon when he gets out — remain in this wretched country of Infidels, where even Jews are protected, or return to the Muslim land from which he came. The final criminal proceeding for the case of Joseph “Joey” Borgen, a Jewish man whom a gang of antisemites mauled and pepper-sprayed in broad daylight during protests and counter-protests over Israel’s 2021 war with Hamas, resulted in another conviction Wednesday.

Mohammed Said Othman, 29, was sentenced to three years in state prison, according to a press release issued by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg.

Borgen, who is Jewish, was wearing a kippah while walking in Manhattan when Said Othman, along with several other men, ambushed him without being provoked. They shouted antisemitic slurs at the pro-Israel advocate, who suffered a concussion, wrist injury, black eye, and bruises all over his body.

Since then, three other sentences have been handed down in the Borgen case. Waseem Awawdeh, who continuously struck Borgen with a crutch while allegedly joining the others in shouting antisemitic epithets at him, pleaded guilty to attempted assault as a hate crime and received 18 months in jail, as part of a plea bargain negotiated with Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Jonathon Junig.

In November, Mahmoud Musa received seven years in prison for his role in the attack. In December, Mohammed Othman was sentenced to five-and-a-half years in state prison and five additional years of post-release supervision.

As seen in footage of the incident, Othman kicked and repeatedly struck Borgen in the face while sitting on his chest to weigh him down. In court, he pleaded guilty to gang assault and third-degree hate crime assault….

Throughout the criminal proceedings in his case, Joey Borgen called on New York City lawmakers to do more to eradicate antisemitic hatred in the five boroughs.

In December, he told The Algemeiner that while he is pleased with the outcome of the case he is worried that the group with which his attackers were allegedly affiliated, the extreme anti-Zionist organization Within Our Lifetime (WOL), is still engaging in antisemitic activity that could lead to more hate crimes….

The police don’t have to wait for the WOL group of thugs to beat someone up before arresting them. This group exists to inflict terror on Jews by the kind of group attack that was launched against Borgen in 2021. It meets the definition of a “terror group,” and the government should formally designate it as such. Having done that, NYC’s hate crimes unit can follow the group’s members, tap their phones, break up their meetings, and arrest them if they are found to be plotting attacks against Jews or others. And since such attacks are WOL’s main reason for being, and its members cretinous Muslim bully-boys, that task of uncovering such plots should not be difficult. Membership in the group should be outlawed because whatever other means it uses to promote “anti-Zionism,” physical attacks are the most important

The sentences handed down to Borgen’s four assailants are going to curb the WOL’s enthusiasm for such attacks. They range from 18 months all the way up to seven years. These are serious sentences, shocking to the thugs who thought they would get away scot-free, or, if caught, would only receive the kind of sentences, up to two years, that some courts have been handing down for similar offenses. Only one of the four was lucky enough to receive a sentence of 18 months. Mahmoud Musa received seven years in prison and Mohammed Othman was sentenced to five and a half years in state prison and five additional years of post-release supervision. That gives those two plenty of time to consider whether they want to try their luck again, or — once burned, twice shy — they decide that when they are finally released they will confine their hatred of Jews to verbal assaults alone.
