After reclaiming the Ram Temple after a 500-year-long battle, the Hindus of India are in no hurry to rest. They have already filed their claims for another ancient temple — the Gyanvapi — that was razed by the orders of the Mughal tyrant Aurangazeb in 1669. The walls of the semi-demolished temple dedicated to the Hindu deity Shiva became the supporting wall for a new mosque that stood atop the ruins of the Hindu temple.
The temple made headlines in 2022 after the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) recovered an ancient monument that experts of a survey team claimed to be the original Shivalinga. Despite the findings, the Muslim body and Muslims all over India and beyond refused to believe that the mosque was built on the ruins of an erstwhile Hindu temple.
The ASI continued a detailed non-invasive survey of the Gyanvapi mosque, and issued its conclusion after finding numerous pieces of evidence so glaring that even the most prominent apologists for Aurangazeb couldn’t deny them. The survey recovered fragments of what appear to be idols of Hindu deities such as Ganesha, Hanuman, and Nandi. They found sculptures, in varying states of damage, of Vishnu, Ganesha, Krishna, Hanuman, and Shivalinga. During the survey, the ASI also discovered many Shivling platforms. Other findings included 32 inscriptions on stone slabs, written in Indic scripts such as Devanagari, Telugu Grantha, and Kannada. These belonged to the ancient Hindu temple and were reused during the construction or repair of the existing structure, establishing that a Hindu structure was indeed destroyed and its parts reused in construction of the mosque. Many artifacts were mutilated or defaced, or only fragments of them were recovered.
Other Hindu symbols, including the swastika, the tridents, and several coins and stone slabs with Persian inscriptions were also recovered during the survey. These slabs provide an account of the pulling down of the Hindu monument during Aurangzeb’s time.
The official report of the ASI states: “The Arabic-Persian inscription found inside a room mentions that the mosque was built in the 20th regnal year of Aurangzeb (1676-77 CE). Hence, the pre-existing structure appears to have been destroyed in the 17th century, during the reign of Aurangzeb, and part of it was modified and reused in the existing structure.”
Every piece of evidence points toward one apparent truth: the Gyanvapi Mosque stands on the ruins of a Hindu temple that was destroyed to build it. For centuries, the western wall of the mosque stood as a screaming testament to the structure’s having originally been a temple. Still, secularists and spiteful Muslims commentators in India ignored the undeniable truth of this wall. The survey, however, has shattered their fantasy beyond repair.
On Wednesday, January 31, the Hindus registered another victory against Islamic tyranny, when the district court of Varanasi reinstated the Hindus’ right to hold prayers in the Vyas cellar of the Gyanvapi structure. The Muslim side did everything in its power to preclude the Hindus from starting to worship on the site; they approached the Supreme Court as well as Allahabad High Court, but their pleas to stay the order were deemed unjustified.
The meltdown on the Islamic side over this is ongoing, and Muslim propagandists, disguised as journalists, politicians, and religious leaders continue to rage. Earlier, Maulana Tauqeer Raza, who is noted for his repeated contentious statements, declared his spiteful intention to launch a “fight on the streets” over the disputed structure. Provoking his audience during a speech, he said that the Muslims have to demonstrate their power. Addressing his followers, he said: “Now we say that our faith is above the court because we have once seen the dishonesty of the court.” On the other hand, Islamic scholar Atiq ur Rehman downplayed the desecration of the existing Shiva temple by Islamic invaders, stating that Hindus should credit the Muslim community for not destroying all the proofs of mosques having been built atop Hindu temples.
The controversial Muslim political leader Asaduddin Owaisi called the judgement wrong. Citing the Places of Worship Act, he declared that the Intezamia Masjid Committee would challenge it in the Allahabad High Court. However, the act is not valid for the structure in concern.
Idols of Hindu deities were recovered from the Vyas cellar, an account of which has been detailed in ASI’s published report. After the Hindus were allowed to perform their prayers inside this cellar, earthen lamps were lit in it, and other rituals including the Mangala Aarti were performed at around 3 AM on Thursday, February 1.
Later, three female members of the Vyas family performed puja inside the cellar. They created history by marking a successful end to the struggle by the Hindus for the right to worship at one of their prominent holy places, which Islamic attackers had repeatedly destroyed over the last millennium.

Most religions like to build their temples on the same spots that previous religions had theirs. As Islam is the newest religion “on the block” (so to speak) it would build on the places that Hindu temples were built. The problem for Muslims is that their religion is the most recent one and in India, Hindu and Buddhist temples definitely take precedent. And besides there is always the ill feelings between the two religions over the Pakistan division in 1948. Muslims don’t usually see themselves outnumbered where troubles begin but in India Hindus also have the numbers.,

Once upon a time, I used to be okay w/ a deal in which if the Hindu temples in Ayodhya, Varanasi and Mathura are reclaimed, I’d be willing to gloss over the other 40,000. Not any more. Ever since 2001, we’ve seen how belligerent muslims are, and coupled w/ what their texts say about real faiths, I’m done w/ that “Art-of-the-deal” attitude. I know that a BJP regime, particularly under Modi, ain’t likely to do it, but I’d like to see a regime that totally repeals the Places of Worship Act referenced in the Article, as well as the Waqf Act, so that Hindus throughout the country can claim back their temples if they were demolished to construct mosques

If the other way around, a non muslim religious building is build on a mosque ruin, muslims will get angry too. In short, muslims feel they have the rights of everything, and non muslims have none. No, I read the Quran to get to the truth. Yes, I do understand about abrogation. I don’t think you do.

Hindus have every right to liberate & reclaim all Hindu temples & sacred sites that are still being occupied by the followers of the demonic death cult called islam. The Ram Mandir was the first. Many more to go. Hindus shouldn’t waste their time in the courts. If there’s historic and/or archeological proof that a Hindu temple used to be there first and that a mosque was build atop of a Hindu Temple ruins then Hindus should just storm those mosques and turn them into Hindu temples again. Like they did with the Babri mosque. That’s 1000% justified.
