Why the change? It’s the result of experience. But watch for claims that it comes from some organized effort to spread “Islamophobia,” and that the Greeks are to blame.
“Greek perceptions towards Islam have become more negative in the last 15 years, new poll finds,” Greek City Times, January 23, 2024:
In 2009, Public Issue investigated, for the first time in Greece, the attitudes of Greeks towards Islam, the social perceptions of the concepts and symbols associated with the Islamic religion, the degree of knowledge and familiarity of citizens with the Islamic tradition, as well as the existing social beliefs regarding Islam-West and Islam-Greece relations.
Today’s findings are compared with the corresponding ones from 2009. It is important that research was carried out shortly before the Greek financial crisis, the appeal to the International Monetary Fund (2010) and the imposition of the memorandum policies. It depicts an entirely different social reality from today’s. The key questions of the original survey are repeated in the company’s new survey, conducted in December 2023.
In the last two decades, with a turning point in 2016, there was a rapid increase in the migration flows of Muslim populations to Greece, mainly from countries in South Asia and the Middle East. As a result, in the last 15 years (2009-2023), social attitudes in Greece towards the Muslim world have changed dramatically.
Greek public opinion, generally following the pan-European trend, treats the Muslim world clearly more negatively or even hostilely….

I’d sure like to see the statistics on that, because it appears to me that Greeks have forgotten their history. 400 + years under the Ottoman boot, and the Armenian/Greek/Chaldean genocide.
Topped off by the invasion of Cyprus, and threats and transgressions against Greek homeland, air space, international waters that continue to this day.
Greece making a huge mistake letting Muslims into the country. But I partly blame the EU and Germany for that. They had their boots on Greece’s neck as well.

GE, You stated exactly what I was going to espouse. Not only were many Greeks killed in Cyprus, the Turks are continuously harassing Greeks on the Islands in the Med and 1821 is not that far in the past. Like you, I find these poles false as even at SHAPE the Greek and the Turkish military offices are separated as far as possible due to the friction between the two.

THe Greeks and everybody else should have read up on islam and realised what an evil bunch of totally incompatible creatures Muslims are before having to put up with them. Too many slow learners around who keep letting the Muslim enemy of all civilisedd values into their countries. They should have avoided all the trouble Muslims always bring and slammed the door on Muslims instead of having to go through this process of seeing what Muslims are like and then, finally, getting a negative view of islam and its evil followers. Muslims need to be shut away in their Muslim countries. Muslims never intend to get along with the hated non-Muslims. They never have and they never will.

Well, GE, in Australia, where I live, it is nowhere near as bad as, say, in France or the UK or Sweden, not as many Muslims have invaded Australia so far, but it is pretty bad. Same old same old in all our western countries. Too many completely ignorant (when it comes to islam’s nature) fools who think that letting Muslims into the country will work out just fine. I used to think that way myself, maybe 25 years or so ago, before I began to learn about islam’s nature and also saw how Muslims were behaving. Stupidity beyond belief. Some people, and lots of them, just seem to be totally incapable of learning. I see Australia sleepwalking into the same disaster as all other western countries by letting Muslims invade the country.

Sorry – but the only way to get rid of Islam in the West is to go about physically destroying their mosques and other religious buildings. Words are cheap and we are being taken for a ride. When Muslims are in the minority they complain that they want handouts. When Muslims are in the majority they do not care about minorities…
