Kepha says
I have known male clergy and great men of God. I have known female clergy and great women of God. There is an overlap between the first two mentioned; little between the second pair. Most female clergy I have run into seem to be playing a game of “anything you can do, I can do better” rather than truly seeking to proclaim Christ.
But we have 19th century American Evangelicalism to blame for this sorry state of affairs. We had foolish people running around putting a separation between “the Holy Spirit’s call” and the words of Scripture to justify foolish women becoming clergy. We also had a lot of men who decide that religion was only for women and children, and abandoned the duties which Scripture clearly puts on male shoulders.
Woe unto you when all men shall speak well of you (Lk. 6:26). I fear that this is God’s commentary on AMerican Christianity in the 19th and part of the 20th century.
