A furious row has erupted in France and left a teacher in fear for her life after she showed a 17th century Renaissance painting depicting nude women to pupils in art class, prompting complaints from Muslim parents.
Staff members at Jacques Cartier in Issou, west of Paris, refused to work on Monday in solidarity with the teacher who showed the masterpiece – ‘Diana and Actaeon’ by the Italian painter Giuseppe Cesari – in class on Thursday.
The work portrays a Greek mythology story in which the hunter Actaeon bursts in at a site where the goddess Diana and her nymphs are bathing. It shows a naked Diana and four nude female companions, and is held at the Louvre museum in Paris.
Following the class, false posts circulated on social media accusing the teacher of making racist comments, fuelling the anger further.
France’s Education Minister Gabriel Attal visited the school in person on Monday and later said pupils who made the false claims would be disciplined….
Teachers there are now worried they too could be attacked, The Times reports.
On Thursday, ‘during a French class, a colleague showed a 17th-century painting that showed naked women’, said Sophie Venetitay, secretary general of the Snes-FSU secondary school teachers’ union.
The name of the female teacher and false claims that she had made racist remarks to Muslim students were subsequently circulated on social media, reports said, raising fears that she could be targeted.
According to Le Figaro, the students allegedly accused their teacher of racism – claiming that she showed the painting as provocation and as a means to target her Muslim students by showing them naked women.
In reference to the furore, Venetitay told broadcaster BFMTV.: ‘We know well that methods like that can lead to a tragedy… We saw it in the murder of Samuel Paty.
‘Our colleagues feel threatened and in danger.’
The painting was reportedly shown during an art class for students aged 12 and 13.
‘Some students averted their gaze, felt offended, said they were shocked,’ Venetitay said, adding that ‘some also alleged the teacher made racist comments’ during a class discussion.
A pupil’s parent sent an email to the school director saying that his son was prevented from speaking during that discussion and that he would file a complaint, she said.
Venetitay said it was the ‘final straw’ for teachers at the school, who had complained of a ‘very degraded climate’ as well as a ‘lack of support’ from management despite ‘several alerts’.
In an email sent to parents on Friday, teachers said they were exercising their right to stay away from classrooms over the ‘particularly difficult situation’ at the high school.
They described ‘palpable discomfort’ and ‘an increase in cases of violence’ as their daily reality.
Teachers said the students had admitted to making things up in posts online, that that it was too late to quell the anger. ‘We’re dealing with vindictive parents who prefer to believe their children than us,’ they said in a statement.
Teachers at the school said behaviour had been deteriorating even before the row, with students fighting and threatening rape.
‘We feel we are clearly in danger. We are supported by our direct superiors but not from higher up,’ one teacher told The Times. ‘This is a real call for help’.
Attal said that a disciplinary procedure would be launched ‘against the students who are responsible for this situation and who have also admitted the facts’.
A team would also be deployed to the school to ensure it adhered to the ‘values of the republic’, he said.
The same school reportedly logged 10 incidents of discrimination or racism in the school term this year, according to French broadcaster BFMTV.
Le Figario [sic] quoted sources as saying that life at the school has long been been tense.
One source told the newspaper that the principle of the school was on leave at the time of the incident, and that ‘reinforcements have been sent in order to strengthen the number of school life staff’….

I have little sympathy for her, as an art teacher she must be aware that representation of the human form male or female is strictly taboo in Islam so what was she expecting happen? It is like turning up at a house fire with a can of petro, As someone has asked, what are Muslim kids doing in a Western art class anyway when all our art displays the human form from the Greeks onward? Even the Egyptians and Cretans were not shy about showing semi naked people.

Good q. I bet they thought she is a bad teacher and tried to make her quit. Has nothing whatsoever to do with racism, if you ask me. Teenagers do that type of stuff. One of my classmates back in high school did that to a female English teacher. Subsequently, four classmates went to the principal to complain about her. Must admit I was one of them. But hey, I didn’t care, I was acing the class.

I am enraged every time I see a female in a hijab or a burka. So can I start making a horrendous fuss about that, so that it makes those concerned feel ‘threatened’ like the teacher in this story? I wouldn’t want to “look” either, but wouldn’t be considering the teacher ‘racist,’ nor threatening her.
I realize I’m in the minority here, but I wouldn’t show such a painting to young kids, nor want any young child of mine to be shown the painting. Even if it is *old,* in my mind, it’s still porn.
When dealing with mozlums, such threatening behavior should be expected. They don’t need provocation, but will use any little thing to justify their hatred and threats.

I would be afraid to be a high school teacher today in many cities across America. Can anyone imagine trying accurately to teach European history, especially during the ninth to twelfth century period. Maybe my concerns are unnecessary since many of these schools are more interested in teaching gender dysphoria than the three “R’s.”
If the lack high academic standards, especially for the presidents and governing board members at the halls of higher education such as Penn, there is probably little to fear. If the teachers are not taught, how can they be expected to educate others?

So, the left probably assumes that the religion of peace, as Bush termed it, has a golden rule, says all men are equal, believes in not throwing the first stone,praises being honest and fair and all the other Christian and Jewish virtues. But their scriptures say something different. So when the leftists open their borderrs, they assume that all men are equal and there can be no problems, if people get welfare and education and civil rights. Then they will behave just like citizens. But of course realistic people should know better. Now the Europeans are finding out that the ideology of treating everyone as though they were the same as their citizens is mistaken. But leftists and liberals cannot give up on this ideology, so they welcome more enemy cultures in, assuming they will just assimilate and not have a different attitude in the future. So, of course they threaten free speech and Western values. What else. Their scriptures tell them to do these things.
