Car bomb detonates at US-Canada border in Niagara Falls, another bomb threat at nearby bridge

There is no telling at this point who did this. Jihadis the world over commonly use car bombs. One Muslim tried to set off a car bomb in Times Square back in 2010.

A huge explosion has been reported at the US-Canada border in Niagara Falls after a suspected car bomb explosion.

Footage from the scene appears to show a car entering the US from Canada via the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls and shows damage to the checkpoint. Smoke is seen bellowing from the sky. It is unclear if anyone was injured during the incident .

An uncomfirmed police radio scanner said a “vehicle drove into Rainbow Bridge that caused an explosion, and that there is a separate bomb threat at the Peace Bridge currently.” The bridge connects the cities of Niagra Falls, US, and Niagara Falls, Canada, and is located less than a mile away from the Niagara waterfalls.

All four bridges between the US and Canada including The Peace Bridge and the Lewiston-Queeston Bridge, have been shut, according to the New York Fire Department who tweeted: “Canada/US Border closed at Niagara Falls, Rainbow Bridge due to a possible VBIED, car exploded.”

The FBI Buffalo said they are coordinating with authorities and called the situation “very fluid”. In a statement, it said: “The FBI Buffalo Field Office is investigating a vehicle explosion at the Rainbow Bridge, a border crossing between the US and Canda [sic] in Niagra [sic] Falls. The FBI is coordinating with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners in this investigation. At this situation is very fluid, that’s all we can say at this time.”…

The Federal Bureau of Investigation said Wednesday afternoon that a vehicle exploded at the Rainbow Bridge, causing the international border crossing to be closed to traffic in both direction.

All other international bridges connecting the United States and Canada closed within the hour, authorities announced shortly before 1 p.m.

Gov. Kathy Hochul said about a half hour later that she is traveling to Buffalo after being briefed on the incident.

“At my direction, the New York State Police is actively working with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force to monitor all points of entry to New York,” the governor added.

The FBI’s statement said it’s coordinating the investigation with local, state and federal law enforcement. “As this situation is very fluid, that’s all we can say at this time,” the FBI said….

In announcing the initial Rainbow Bridge closure, Aaron Ferguson, public information officer for the City of Niagara Falls, issued a news release that referred to an “incident involving a vehicle coming into the United States.” The FBI’s statement clarified that a vehicle had exploded.
