“Cash truck robbery, terror: This Islamist is still free!,” translated from “Geldtransporter-Überfall, Terror: Dieser Islamist ist weiter in Freiheit!,” Exxpress, November 17, 2023 (thanks to Medforth):
The judiciary acts as if this were a small industrial accident: But Minister Alma Zadic (Greens)’s people escaped not from a harmless chicken thief, but from a serious criminal Chechen (35) – the dangerous Islamist spent ten years in a high-security prison after a cash-in-transit robbery in Krems-Stein.
The Chechen’s escape is, in itself, a scandal. Because of knee problems, the prisoner was escorted out of the institution for an X-ray. Since then it has disappeared from the face of the earth. Just marched out of the doctor’s office – and away. The fact that the judiciary has not yet launched a comprehensive Austria-wide public search with photos of the perpetrator can certainly be seen as a security scandal.
The population should be urgently warned about the escaped prisoner, the absconder is considered extremely dangerous: it is no coincidence that he is in Krems-Stein, where Austria’s serious criminals such as the Amstetten incest father Josef F. are housed. The Chechen is serving his sentence for aggravated armed robbery, grievous bodily harm, resistance to state authority and illegal possession of weapons.
On August 12, 2019, he and two accomplices robbed a cash-in-transit truck in Wels. Early in the morning, the trio met two money messengers in a parking lot who were coming from a bank branch with suitcases. They knocked down a money messenger with the handle of a pistol and also injured her colleague. But when they failed with the technology of the money containers, they fled.
On the way they changed their getaway vehicle and set the first one on fire. They ended up having an accident with the second one and were caught. In February 2020, two Chechens stood trial for the attack; the third accomplice was previously unknown.
In the course of the investigation, it became clear that the now fugitive Chechen was no stranger and that the state security service must have had it on its radar at least for a time. In Tyrol he was targeted as a radical Islamist who had proudly presented himself in videos as a supporter of the Islamic State (IS) and posed in front of a Salafist flag.
How dangerous the Chechen is considered is shown by the fact that after his escape, 200 police officers with search dogs, a helicopter crew and drone pilots searched for him for hours. The Office for the Protection of the Constitution was also there. The high-risk inmate was a former martial artist and active as a “cage fighter.”
