The great satisfaction of Fatah officials over the Hamas murders of almost 1000 Israelis is telling. More on what Fatah officials have said is here: “Fatah calls to expand war to West Bank – ‘confrontation in all arenas,'” by Nan Jacques Zilberdik, Palestinian Media Watch, October 8, 2023:
“Fatah calls on the masses of our people to declare tomorrow, Sunday, as a day of general strike and intensifying the confrontation in all arenas of confrontation with the occupation, in order to defend our people and our sacred right to freedom, a state, and independence. Glory to the Martyrs, healing to the wounded, and victory to our mighty Palestinian people.”
[Fatah Commission of Information and Culture, Facebook page, Oct. 7, 2023]
The general strike that Fatah called for came and went, with no discernible effect on anyone. Many Palestinians in the West Bank simply ignored it. Of course, Israelis paid no attention; they have more important matters to occupy them at the moment. And the international media barely mentioned it. It must have been a great disappointment to Mahmoud Abbas.
The PA and Fatah has justified the Hamas massacre, claiming it is a “natural response” to what they say is Jews “defiling” their Jerusalem and holy places and Israel’s “aggression and crimes against our people and its Islamic and Christian holy sites”:
“In a statement this evening, Saturday [Oct. 7, 2023], Fatah added that the occupation is continuing its aggression and its crimes against our people and its Islamic and Christian holy sites, and that it is continuing it cruel attack against our male and female prisoners amid international silence. It called to provide our people with defense.”
[WAFA, official PA news agency, Oct. 7, 2023]
There has been unspeakable cruelty, all right, but not against Palestinian prisoners by Israel. Those prisoners are well-treated — even Palestinian murderers are able to obtain university degrees while in Israeli prisons. The only cruelty is that captured on the videotapes that Hamas has proudly made and posted online, that show its “fighters” decapitating Israeli soldiers, torturing and gang-raping Israeli girls and parading them, both dead and alive, through the streets of Gaza. Hamas is very proud of these deeds. And Fatah says it stands with Hamas.
Another statement by Fatah, this time issued by the Revolutionary Council…
“Fatah is participating in defending our people everywhere, and we emphasize to the Fatah members in particular and to all our people that we must strengthen the cohesion in this heroic battle. We hope that everyone everywhere will defend our villages, our towns, and our cities against the attacks of the occupation and its settlers.”
[WAFA, official PA news agency, Oct. 7, 2023]
Fatah wants to make sure that it, too, gets credit for standing up to Israel, and claims — falsely — that it is “participating in defending our people everywhere.” No, it isn’t. Fatah hardly has a presence in Gaza, where Hamas rules; in truth, Fatah hasn’t been in Gaza since 2007, when Hamas killed or expelled hundreds of its members from the Strip.
The chairman of the legislative body of the PLO, Rawhi Fattouh also stressed the unity between Fatah and Hamas – in his words “the solidarity of the people” – while referring to the massacre of murders, wounding, and hostage taking as “brave resistance.”…
Fattouh even added a demand of “immediate intervention by the UN Security Council to defend the Palestinian people.”
That’s not going to happen. The U.S. will veto any such resolution, should one be presented. But so far, no member of the Security Council has dared. Why, even the Russian ambassador was uncharacteristically quiet at the meeting of the Security Council on Oct. 8.
Similarly, when US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called Abbas to condemn Hamas’ attack on Israel, Abbas had the audacity to present the war as “the bloody Israeli escalation” against which the “defenseless” Palestinians need “international protection”:
“His Honor [Abbas] emphasized that the current Israeli escalation against our people must be stopped, and that the reason for this is the actions of the settlers and the Israeli occupation forces, the aggression against the Islamic and Christian holy sites, and especially the Al-Aqsa Mosque – which we have warned about… He also emphasized that it is necessary to provide international protection to our defenseless people that is being subjected to bloody Israeli aggression.”
[WAFA, official PA news agency, Oct. 7, 2023]
Abbas mentioned “aggression [by Israel]…especially [at] the Al-Aqsa Mosque.” There has been no Israeli aggression at the Al-Aqsa Mosque or on the Al-Aqsa Compound. Jewish visitors continue to observe the status quo. That is, they do not say prayers, either openly or silently, while on the Mount. Nor do they bring with them Jewish prayerbooks, prayer shawls, or tefillin. They circumperambulate along a well-worn path used by Jewish visitors — it takes about 15 minutes to complete the walk — but are careful to stay clear of both the Dome of the Rock and of the al-Aqsa Mosque. The only people “defiling” Al-Aqsa are the Palestinians themselves, when they use the mosque as a place to store weapons — rocks, fireworks, bottles for Molotov cocktails — and also as a fort from which they emerge to attack Jewish visitors, both those on the Mount, and those worshipping at the Western Wall far below, after which they run back to the Mosque. On a very few occasions, the Israeli police have had to enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque when in hot pursuit of these Palestinians who have been attacking Jews; they quickly collar the malefactors and pull them out of the Mosque, so that they can then be handed over to the proper authorities. Should the Israeli police simply allow these violent Palestinians to attack peaceful Jewish visitors and then get away by running into the Mosque?
Abbas mentions Israeli “escalation,” which is a most peculiar way to describe an invasion, by thousands of armed terrorists belonging to Hamas, who attacked Israeli civilians just as they were just awakening on one of the holiest days in the Jewish calendar. Has he forgotten that thousands of Hamas fighters came smashing into Israel, by land, sea, and air, and began at once to murder any Israelis they came across, killing a total o 1000, almost 90% of whom were civilians?.
If Abbas cannot bring himself to condemn the savagery of Hamas, whose terrorists killed 1000 Israelis, many of whom were babies, children, women, the elderly, the disabled, and are now threatening to kill, one by one, the 150 hostages they hold, if Israel fails to warn Gazans about the IAF targets, then the American government ought at this point to cease all payments to the Palestinian Authority, as the governments of Germany and Austria have done. If Biden wants to “stand with Israel,” then shouldn’t the American government do as much?
Walter Sieruk says
This picture of Abbas and Biden is a very strong reminder that the Bible informs its reader in Proverbs 11:21. “Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished.”

The US. Government should get out of the foreign aid business. What other country taxes the hell out of its citizens and gives Billions of those tax dollars to other countries including enemies. My guess we will be sending millions to help rebuild Israel and then turn around and spend millions more to rebuild Palestine who we helped destroy. Stop government foreign aid and let charities supported by contributions from our citizens help others. Our tax dollars should be spent to help Americans not foreign governments.
