This kind of thinking leads to an ever-spiraling fanaticism, and thus to jihad violence. If sin causes earthquakes, then one must avoid sin. If misfortune still comes, one must redouble one’s efforts to please Allah.
The Qur’an teaches that if one’s good deeds outweigh one’s bad deeds on the “scales of justice for the Day of Resurrection,” one will enter Paradise:
“And we set a just balance for the day of resurrection so that no soul is wronged in anything. Even if it is the weight of a grain of mustard seed, we bring it. And we are sufficient as reckoners.” (Qur’an 21:47)
When one’s deeds are weighed in these scales, the weightiest deed of all is waging jihad for the sake of Allah. Muhammad himself explains that the best of all deeds is jihad, and thus it outweighs all others:
“The Prophet said, ‘A single endeavor of fighting in Allah’s Cause is better than the world and whatever is in it.’” (Bukhari 4:52:50)
“A man came to Allah’s Apostle and said, ‘Instruct me as to such a deed as equals Jihad in reward.’ He replied, ‘I do not find such a deed.’” (Bukhari 4:52:44)
So if you’re worried about your sins and anxious to please Allah so as to ward off the next earthquake, or simply to avoid hell, an act of jihad could be just the thing.
“‘Earthquake was a divine warning’: Morocco’s Islamist ex-PM Benkirane statement prompts backlash, resignations,” by Basma El Atti, The New Arab, September 26, 2023 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):
Several members of the PJD took to social media to distance themselves from their leader’s “out of line” and “insensitive” speech towards thousands of villagers who lost their homes and loved ones in the disaster.
“What happened is probably the result of our sins,” said former Moroccan Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane on Saturday, 23 September, in his first speech since the strongest earthquake in a century struck the North African kingdom.
The statement promoted outrage and resignations inside his party.
After two weeks of silence, Benkirane, head of the opposition Islamist party of Justice and Development (PJD), finally spoke on the deadly quake that killed over 2,900 and injured more than 5,000, mostly in vulnerable Moroccan villages.
“We must return to God because everything that befalls a person is a warning, and the right thing is for us to review as a nation and find out whether what happened might also be due to our sins, transgressions, and violations,” said the populist figure in a speech on Saturday.
“Not only in their individual sense but in their general and political sense,” added Benkirane, claiming that violations in elections and public management might also be behind the quake….

Abdelilah Benkirane has no notion of cause and effect unless Allah is involved? Allah sits around watching his world-vision computer screen with a finger over the “smite” button?
And someone would wonder why Islam has contributed so little to science?
Nothing about the world’s natural resources was in short supply thousands of years ago. The human mind was just as capable then. It was religion, despotic government, and wars that delayed the modern world. Any unusual thoughts were stifled because they were a threat to the established order. Thanks to some original thinkers who braved order or used their service to government, religion, and wealthy families to experiment, we had the Renaissance. Islam has largely remained in 7th Century thinking and is more a consumer of humanity’s progress than a contributor.

I just had a mental image of some bloke dressed in robes, sitting there with a beer in one hand, some ham sandwiches, watching a flat screen tv big enough to be seen from space with a big red button on a desk next to an ashtray with a couple of joints in it.
Thanks for that, I needed a good laugh.

Why islam has contribnuted so little to Science?
Probably because allah himself doesn’t understand Science!
And especially Astronomy:see the Scientific mistakes of the koran.I have always been into Astronomy and i’m not claiming to even know much but i am confident that i know more than allah does on the subject{and Christian Theology and Biology..}with his 7/8th century mind.
We have to laugh at allah insisting he knows all things{koran 2:29}when he clearly does not even understand the Science behind creation.Yes,we must laugh.
That Earthquake: allah{Thunder,Lightning,Grr} the capricious god of islam, maybe he was having one of his temper tantrums and maybe his ONE FOOT hit the Earth
There were natural disasters millions of years ago and mass extinctions:allah must have been very angry then… but against WHOM?
Who is allah fighting against?
Why does he not already own the planet?

Muslims have a warped World view.
They want world domination at Public expense. Even if they make it rubble.
Their so called “holy” book is crime inciting and Globally destabilizing in ideology.

First of all learn about all the Divine Revelations mainly the Bible, then only you will understand the meaning of real GOD-Creator of the Universe. Who sent many Revelations and Prophets and Messengers to clean up the dirty streets full of ‘Sins’. If one denies the existence of the sins then one is surely possessed by the devil-evil spirit. As criticizing Islam and Quran is equivalent to criticizing Bible, Torah, Hindu Scripture etc. As the Al Quran is the continuation of the Bible and all the past Scriptures. Get true enough knowledge of the final Divine Scripture Quran and know that Quran is full of Scientific, which is known to intelligent non-Muslims and all the true Muslims./Salaam/peace/A convert to Islam from the fake Imam Agakhan’s cult.

The claim that Islam is the extension of the scripture of Jews and Christians could not be more perverse. Unlike Jesus and the Jewish prophets, Muhammed was a caravan raider, pedophile, slaver, kidnapper, rapist, and mass murderer.
The idea that people should not be allowed to criticize such savagery is appalling–but this is orthodox Islam. People are murdered in Dar-al-Islam for questioning such horrors as child rape and the slaughter of Infidels.

Whenever I hear or read about some of the superstitious ramblings of these barbarians I think about the old black & white movies with the peasants carrying pitch forks and burning lamps sallying forth to burn the local witch/heretic/mad scientist at the stake.
The only thing missing is the howling, enraged, mindless mudslime mob.

Thank Israel as being first line of defense against islam
࿗Infidel࿘ says
Except that w/ muslims already well embedded in most, if not all countries of Europe, I’m not sure that that line of defense is even relevant any more. Don’t get me wrong: I support the Jewish people and Israel as a Jewish nation, but it’s irrelevant to the question of whether the rest of the world is protected or not from muslims
Also, within Israel, they have the same islamophobiaphobia issue that the rest of us have, which is why one sees Jews getting murdered not by Palis, but by Israeli muslims (a distinction w/o a difference). So even that line of defense is questionable

I lived in Iran for several years and remember a 5.2 earthquake centered in Kashan that leveled adobe buildings for hundreds of miles around. A year earlier I had been in Qum and was marveling at the delicate minarets of the main mosque. When I asked my guide if these were ever damaged by earthquakes he looked puzzled and said “we don’t have earthquakes in Iran!” He seemed to believe it. But that earthquake toppled one of those minarets causing the deaths of some pilgrims. I concluded that the people there suffered from some form of collective amnesia: an earthquake comes. The shabbily built mud buildings collapse killing their inhabitants. The survivors wail, bury their dead, and then rebuild their mud houses on top of the same fault lines and then forget everything until the next earthquake hits. “Because we don’t have earthquakes in Iran!”
tim gallagher says
Strange how this primitive Muslim’s mind works. Those villagers were living the Muslim life, or is this clown saying that they were living it up, hitting the booze and living a wild old life in the villages, and then they got hit by the earthquake. So this idiot says that it happened because they were not living the way allah says they should live. But it would make just as much sense to say, hey, we were living the devout Muslim life in the villages and yet allah sent an earthquake to hit us. Plainly we have been wasting our time worshipping this thing allah, so let’s ditch islam and find some other religion or no religion at all because allah is plainly not the real god as he did not protect us even though we were living the devout Muslim life. Of course, all this primitive type of thinking is bullshit anyway. If an earthquake hits you it doesn’t mean god hates you or you are not being religious enough and need to change your life. What backward thinking by this clown. Having such a primitive idiot as Prime Minister would be more of a threat to a country than an earthquake would be.

Shouldn’t allah then have struck some other countries for their sins? Either the countries that have been liberalizing, like Bahrein or Emirates, or the countries that have been pretty brutal, like Turkey, Qatar, Azerbaijan, Pakistan or Afghanistan. Morocco is somewhere in the middle of this spectrum of islamic piety

My conclusion is that if anyone alive today is still continuing to build mud brick buildings in active tectonic regions or elect leaders like Erdogan who accept bribes from contractors to ignore modern building codes it’s their own bloody fault if an earthquake destroys their dwellings.

Strange. I thought Mohammed was responsible for putting Allah together; or, as Wellington so aptly put it, Allah was Mohammed’s glove puppet – which makes the progress of islam quite interesting where, unlike showbiz, the dummy seems to have lived on after the ventriloquist died – which is not surprising, I suppose, because it’s very useful having a ‘God’ that decrees to order whatever words you want to put into its mouth (although there were clearly too many script writers trying to get into the ‘Allah’ act in this story). By the way, you say the Allah isn’t much of a scientist, but that must surely depends on who’s working him; he’s been said to be quite a wizard with reconstructive surgery after it was claimed that he’s able to recycle all those virgins in Paradise in time for each new lot of heroes that appears up (down?) there.
FYI says
Actually i think of allah as a Wizard.
I always think of allah as being like the wizard of oz hiding behind the curtain when the curtain falls{the curtain symbolically representing the ‘scholars’ of islam-desperately trying to put it back:like Zakir Naik’s pathetic ‘scientific miracles in the koran’ nonsense which even honest muslims now admit is silly and false}But many have seen through/behind the curtain.
I think of koran as being like humpty dumpty after his Great Fall
“And all allah’s ‘scholars’ and and allah’s men couldn’t put the koran back together again”
What with the famous” Holes in the narrative” controversy,Scientific errors in the koran and the awkward fact that the koran has NOT been ‘perfectly preserved’…

The Holy Qur’an speaks of the mountains and explains that Allah, may He be exalted, created them so as to make the earth stable and, so that it would not shake or move.
Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning):
“And the earth We spread out, and placed therein firm mountains”
[al-Hijr 15:19]
“And We have placed on the earth firm mountains, lest it should shake with them”
[al-Anbiya’ 21:31]
“Have We not made the earth as a bed,
And the mountains as pegs?”
[an-Naba’ 78:6-7]
“And the mountains He has fixed firmly”
[an-Naazi‘aat 79:32].
