There have been many expressions of support for Hamas on campuses nationwide; universities, of course, are hotbeds of anti-Israel sentiments, nurtured by both far-left faculty and by Palestinian and other Muslim students. But now, at Harvard, some of those students who have been blithely expressing their hatred for Israel, and solidarity with Hamas, are discovering that there are consequences to their acts, and they may find their employment plans damaged or derailed. More on this can be found here: “Bill Ackman demands list of Harvard students blaming Israel in war with Hamas,” by Ariel Zilber, New York Post, October 10, 2023:
A group of Wall Street executives have joined hedge fund owner Bill Ackman in pledging to ensure that members of the 33 Harvard student groups that issued a letter blaming Israel for Hamas’ attack will “not work on Wall Street.” This has already struck fear in some of those students; several of the signers of the original pro-Hamas declaration have removed their signatures, hoping to salvage their foundering employment prospects.
Bill Ackman wants Harvard University to release a list of the members of the dozens of student groups who signed a letter blaming Israel for Hamas’ violent assault over the weekend so as to make sure they don’t work on Wall Street.
“I have been asked by a number of CEOs if Harvard would release a list of the members of each of the Harvard organizations that have issued the letter assigning sole responsibility for Hamas’ heinous acts to Israel, so as to insure that none of us inadvertently hire any of their members,” Ackman, the billionaire founder of hedge fund giant Pershing Square Capital Management, wrote on his X social media account on Tuesday.
“If, in fact, their members support the letter they have released, the names of the signatories should be made public so their views are publicly known.”…
Ackman’s post came just hours after another Harvard alum, former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, once again took school administrators to task for failing to explicitly condemn Hamas.
The delayed @Harvard leadership statement fails to meet the needs of the moment,” Summers, the Harvard-trained economist, wrote on his X social media account on Tuesday.
The Hamas massacre of Israeli civilians began very early on Saturday morning, The Harvard administration let two whole days go by before issuing a statement that deplored equally
“Why can’t we find anything approaching the moral clarity of Harvard statements after George Floyd’s death or Russia’s invasion of Ukraine when terrorists kill, rape and take hostage hundreds of Israelis attending a music festival?” Summers asked.
Summers on Monday demanded that Harvard administrators condemn the statement put out by a group of 35 student organizations who blamed Israel for the Hamas assault that was staged on Saturday morning — resulting in the death of at least 1,000 [now 1,200] Israelis.
The Harvard College Palestine Solidarity Committee posted a letter over the weekend.
“Why can’t we give reassurance that the University stands squarely against Hamas terror to frightened students when 35 groups of their fellow students appear to be blaming all the violence on Israel?” Summers wrote in his social media post late on Monday.
After remaining silent for two days on the Hamas atrocities, the Harvard administration issued a statement on Monday: “We write to you today heartbroken by the death and destruction unleashed by the attack by Hamas that targeted citizens in Israel this weekend, and by the war in Israel and Gaza now under way.” The last part of that sentence impliedly deplored the necessary war that Israel has now unleashed to destroy Hamas, as was pointed out by Larry Summers, a former president of Harvard. A great many Harvard alumni — people on whom the university relies for gifts — apparently made known their anger over that insufficient statement to President Claudine Gay, who on Tuesday issued a statement clearly condemning Hamas without any trace of bothsideism: “As the events of recent days continue to reverberate, let there be no doubt that I condemn the terrorist atrocities perpetrated by Hamas. Such inhumanity is abhorrent, whatever one’s individual views of the origins of longstanding conflicts in the region,” Gay said. This reflected not any sudden moral awakening on her part, but only her worry over Harvard’s endowment.
Thirty-three student groups at Harvard signed the letter, though five of them have now officially renounced their affiliation with the missive….
I suspect that many other members of those student groups, realizing what damage they may have done to their own job prospects, will disassociate themselves from the pro-Hamas anti-Israel letter.
The student groups that signed the letters are African American Resistance Organization; Bengali Association of Students at Harvard College; Harvard Act on a Dream; Harvard Arab Medical and Dental Student Association; Harvard Chan Muslim Student Association; Harvard Chan Students for Health Equity and Justice in Palestine; Harvard College Pakistan Student Association; Harvard Divinity School Muslim Association; Harvard Middle Eastern and North African Law Student Association; Harvard Graduate School of Education Islamic Society; Harvard Graduate Students for Palestine; Harvard Islamic Society; Harvard Law School Justice for Palestine; Harvard Divinity School Students for Justice in Palestine; Harvard Jews for Liberation; Harvard Kennedy School Bangladesh Caucus; Harvard Kennedy School Muslim Caucus; Harvard Kennedy School Muslim Women’s Caucus; Harvard Kennedy School Palestine Caucus; Harvard Muslim Law School Association; Harvard Pakistan Forum; Harvard Prison Divest Coalition; Harvard South Asian Law Students Association; Harvard South Asians for Forward-Thinking Advocacy and Research; Harvard TPS Coalition; Harvard Undergraduate Arab Women’s Collective; Harvard Undergraduate Ghungroo; Harvard Undergraduate Muslim Women’s Medical Alliance; Harvard Undergraduate Nepali Students Association; Harvard Undergraduate Palestine Solidarity Committee; Middle East and North African Graduate School of Design Student Society.
Harvard alumni have a right to know which students belong to these pro-Hamas groups; these students should not be allowed to hide their identities behind a collective name. If the university administration refuses to release their names, those alumni, like Bill Ackman, will know how to punish Harvard in the only way the university understands: by withholding contributions. And at other schools, too, student groups thinking of endorsing Hamas may think again. aware of what that might do to the job prospects of their members. And alumni, too, may want to emulate Ackman and his fellows in their pushback, by announcing they wlll not be hiring those who, unhinged by bigotry, justify the mass murder of Israeli men, women, and children.

Off-topic, but shouldn’t a billionaire hedge-fund owner who isn’t too sure about spelling everyday words, at least employ a secretary who knows the difference between “insure” and “ensure”?

A bit petty don’t you think? Most people I know continue to confuse ‘affect” and ‘effect’. English is cumbersome.

Not if you are educated in the language but it mayb ethat the person putting this on the site is at fault

I don’t think this is petty, Charles. And I say this as someone with mild dyslexia, which affects my spelling. (Note that I taught myself the difference between “affect” and “effect” somewhere along the way, even though as you say many people continue to confuse the two).
But of course content is more important than spelling and grammar, especially here.

We in the Western Nations have fools running our governments and fools well on their way to run the next generations.White history is attacked at every angle yet Islam, the biggest thief of all.lands is never addressed.Islam conquered every country it occupies yet no one ever mentions it.There isn’t a country on earth Muslims and Islam hasn’t taken by force and sadly I watch it occur daily in Africa. No one says a word about it,all they care it to attack a people who have a history of be murdered and attacked.Do the Jews have issues, sure, especially their Orthodox who sadly, are no better than a Muslim. The end result here is Islam is being spread throughout the World by traitors who couldn’t understand his story if it hit em in the face and well that just happened in Israel.Hamas can’t even attack the proper people they just love the fact they behead kids and kill families.
commonsense says
Orthodox Jews are no better than Muslims? Do Orthodox Jews murder the infants of Muslim parents and behead them with shovels? Do they kidnap, rape, and then murder Muslim women in front of their children? Burn them alive? Do the Orthodox mutilate the bodies of murdered Muslims and drag them through the streets, to the delight and exultation of undulating Orthodox Jews, who cry out “Shema Yisroel!” to express sacralized bloodlust?

Most colleges and universities; and all.of the Ivy League schools have been fully taken over by leftists. Notice how many of these schools have few if any conservative student groups. Ive seen open antisemitism on campus since my college days, and nothing was done about it. In the case of Harvard; they will protect and promote leftist persosctives; but anything that breaks from a leftist narrative is denounced. God help anyone who misgenders a person.
I have noticed leftist groups such as BLM and ANTIFA ( which often appear on campuses) have visceral antisemitism in their ideology. Both groups often go on denouncing ‘ bankers’ and ‘globalists’; both being code for ‘the Jews’ universities time and time again give them a pass. Back in my foolish liberal youth, I thought antisemitic was to be found only on the right; but in fact antisemitism; like racism permiates the left. This massacre has had an unexpeched side effect of prompting online antisemites to drop all pretense and out themselves as hating Jews. I hope there will be a reckoning with schools paying dearly financially for enabling and and promoting hatred of Jews

I remember my high school Russian teacher, a former Polish war hero, telling the class that there were no finer antiSemites than some Jews. At the time, I was puzzled by his remarks, but years later I see he was correct.
In the book “Warsaw Boy”, a Polish freedom fighter recalled how it was difficult to get Jews to join their group during the Warsaw uprising, at one point remembering that a fellow Jewish fighter agreed with his observation (he was killed shortly afterwards).
I guess two millenia of powerlessness left its mark. The result is a reluctance of many Jews to embrace the use of force, even in self defense.

“…there were no finer antiSemites than some Jews.”
This sentiment could be applied to some Hindus as well. Some of the ardent Hinduphobes are Hindus, notably in academia and politics.

Probably because Hindus have had similar experiences of helplessness at the hands of the Muslim invaders over the centuries. It’s a kind of perverse self-preservation reaction.

“Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man a more clever devil.”

Education used to centred on character and virtue ethics is the theory how we can get that wise character. Aristotle pointed out that the opposite of wisdom is cleverness (panourgia). At most universities they do teach values, but those values are the diametrical opposite of the virtues that Aristotle and Aquinas saw. It is the result of consequentialism and of people who call themselves Neo-Kantians. I have taught at major research universities around the world and now am at a small American college: these kids are decent and find what is going on at the Ivy League places weird. The future is not all dark.

“Perfume tycoon Jo Malone’s son helps lead a pro-Palestinian Harvard group behind a letter that blamed Israel for Hamas ‘ massacre of Jewish people, DailyMail.com can reveal. Josh Willcox, 22, is listed as one of three students who run the Undergraduate Palestine Solidarity Committee, according to Harvard’s directory of student groups. His mother, Jo, a British perfume giant founder who sold her eponymous company to Estee Lauder in 1999, refused to address her son, simply saying the war in the Middle East had left her ‘heartbroken’ as she branded the attack by Hamas as ‘abhorrent’.”

It’s good to see cancel culture working in reverse – at all those cretins who chose to sign off on Hamas. I’d make it simpler for any employer and their HR teams: if the automatic resume tracking system (ATS) detects the word “Harvard” on a resume, instantly delete/shred it (depending on whether it’s a softcopy or hardcopy), and send the student a response that s/he/it/they/zer/zim/whatever has been rejected
Just as great was BLM Chicago deciding that it was better to delete that tweet, but it’ll live on the Internet forever!
RichardL says
if the Ackmans are not merely virtue signalling – I think they are not in this case – they should stop hiring any student from Harvard if Harvard refuses to hand over the lists.

Anyone evil enough to support these absolute monsters from hamas should never be employed anywhere ever. A human being has to have a completely fucked up, monstrously evil mentality to support the scum of the earth vermin from hamas after the evil actions they have just carried out. People who find such actions OK would probably be unsafe to have working in any workplace.

If the recent atrocities and the disgusting reaction from leftists have still not shown American jews who their true enemies are, then I doubt anything short of another holocaust or nuclear war would.
The next time you hear the ADL attack a conservative who criticizes Israel or Jews remember their deafening silence when leftists, muslims, BLM and their cultists celebrated the massacre of innocent civilians for no other reason but their Jewish identity.
Remember the justification of mass murder and terrorism the next time you see the media claim that white supremacy is the greatest threat to America and the West.
Remember them cheering jihadist terrorism the next time they try to impress you with an Ivy League degree and “expert” opinion on extremism and “domestic terrorism”
It doesn’t take much for the mask to slip with these people. They want you SUBJUGATED to their deranged worldview or DEAD. There is no other option.

If there was no Bible there would be no koran…
Linde Barrera says
To Michelle- What the heck are you stating? Those 2 books are totally different. The Holy Bible has example after example of how the One True and Only Holy God
created all life and saved all life through His great sacrifice on a Roman cross. And He asks the humans He created to be kind to each other and love one another and HIM. The Quran speaks of not recognizing free will with which all humans were born, and committing disgusting, savage acts against people who refuse to become Muslim. And this Quranic doctrine is the basis for which Christians are being slaughtered in Nigeria, Hindus are being slaughtered in India, and Jews are being slaughtered in Israel. The Quran also sanctions wife beating. So please learn to differentiate!

Sounds like you are blaming the God of the Bible for islam and all of its evil.
God gave us the Bible so we could learn good and to Know His Goodness.
Without the Bible, we could not know God and His Son.
Because satan is great at deceiving humans, he had the book of evil filth written to counter and appeal to the evil already resident in some humans.
