While I don’t agree with everything Naomi Wolf says, a lot of it touched a chord with me. As a pharmacist, I have been shouting into the wind about the issues of outsourcing the manufacture of final products and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) to China and India for at least 15 years. It began with the deaths of approximately 80 patients and the sickening of nearly a thousand more from using heparin where the API was sourced from China. Since then, drug recalls have increased to never before seen levels largely due to the presence of chemical or biological contaminants, a significant proportion of which were produced in India or China. The FDA admitted at the time that they did not have the right inspectors or the number of inspectors to adequately vet pharmaceutical plants outside of the US.

I am glad to see Naomi Wolf speaking to the danger of entrusting the safety of our drug supply, including vaccines, to countries that do not have our best interests at heart. I am disappointed that my previous post on this topic was deleted after review because it was meant to be complimentary, not inflammatory. It’s a serious topic that needs to be addressed.

China’s industrial, food, and drug safety standards are notoriously bad.
However, what is more heartening is not that Ms. Wolf has called out the issue of outsourcing pharmaceuticals to n unscrupulous adversary, but that she is willing to listen to conservatives and traditionalists. Maybe more will follow.
