The S File is a terror watch list. But clearly French authorities aren’t watching all that closely.
“Paris: Islamist on file S arrested for threatening travelers in the metro,” translated from “Paris : un islamiste fiché S interpellé pour avoir menacé des voyageurs dans le métro,” Valeurs Actuelles, October 14, 2023 (thanks to Medforth):
An individual registered as S was arrested this Friday, October 13 around 2:45 p.m. at the Stalingrad metro station in Paris in the 19th arrondissement, by police officers from the Franciliens Network Brigade, Current Values learned from a police source, confirming information from the Figaro.
The individual was apprehended while threatening users by waving a piece of wood cut into a point “back and forth”, a police source told Valeurs Actuelles. The authorities quickly took him to the police station and took him into custody. The first investigations, in particular the checks carried out in the police files, revealed that this individual was the subject of three search cards. Among these, we found an “S” file, issued by state security, indicating that he was an Islamist militant likely to travel in France and abroad.
The authorities informed the service issuing this sheet, the DGSI (General Directorate of Internal Security). Subsequently, the custody of this individual was transferred to GLAT 95 (Val d’Oise anti-terrorism group), responsible for continuing the investigations.
