California: Jewish middle schoolers forced to sign gag order after violent threats by pro-Hamas students

In a shocking story that again will likely fade into silence, Jewish students were bullied and threatened with violence at a middle school in California. Manhattan Beach Middle School Jewish kids were…

reportedly attacked by other students after Hamas attacks on Israel. Some students allegedly said “revenge is beautiful” and “all Jews should be killed.” The school investigated and concluded that it wasn’t hate speech, the perpetrators received no punishment, and the school made the victims sign a gag order to not discuss the incident.

The attack was verbal, but threatened bodily harm and death. Even worse, the follow-up gag order by the school also issued a threat of “consequences,” as if the Jewish students weren’t under enough stress. One wonders how any school could possibly get away with this. Had such an incident happened against Muslims, the story would be plastered over newspapers everywhere, and there would be indeed “consequences,” not only for the pro-Hamas bullies, but also for the staff who administered and condoned the gag order — which is now being denied by the school. Hibah Samad, public information officer for the Manhattan Beach Unified School District, claimed that the school “asked the students to sign a voluntary ‘no contact contract,’ as opposed to a gag order,” but the content of the gag order says otherwise, particularly given the threat of “consequences” if violated.

Community Rabbi Joshua Kalev said:

three of the four girls involved in the incident are a part of his congregation, and it has affected how other Jewish kids are feeling.

“I have our students coming up to me saying ‘I don’t feel comfortable wearing a Jewish star at school,’ or a T-shirt they got on a trip to Israel. They’ve asked their parents to take down their mezuzah from their door post because they don’t want to be identified as a Jewish family.”

The school statement added insult to injury for the Jewish students:

We take incidents like this very seriously and handle them in alignment with student discipline policies, procedures, Education Code, and law. We also empathize with everyone who is being impacted by the horrific conflict in the Middle East.

What about staff discipline involving the gag order? Note also the part about “We also empathize with everyone who is being impacted by the horrific conflict in the Middle East.” Does this include those supporting Hamas and Palestinian “resistance”? The statement downplayed Jewish students being bullied along with incitement to violence against them such as “revenge is beautiful” and “all Jews should be killed.” It is troubling for Jewish students’ concern to be dismissed in the face of such serious threats.

The school actually justified the gag order:

‘No Contact Contracts.’ These agreements are commonly used in school districts across the country and even in universities. They ask students to avoid each other and not speak to one another in order to avoid re-igniting situations we are trying to resolve.

In this instance, the Jewish students involved should discuss the threats and violence among one another to help them cope. They need support amid the obvious terror being inflicted upon them by the pro-Palestinian lobby.

More follow-up and accountability across the board is needed in order to protect Jewish students and those who support Israel. Palestinian kids and youth are being indoctrinated by their families and communities in much the same way as is seen in the Palestinian territories. Leftists continue to stand with the jihadis, which is peculiar, since practically everything they claim to stand for is denied by the Sharia, such as the idea that gays should not be brutalized.

There is no moral equivalence in this war on Hamas. Jews are not the ones who are issuing threats of bodily harm on campuses, schools and at street demonstrations across the board in the West.

  1. Yidden: Get your children out of those corrupt state schools and enroll then in Hebrew Schools run by a bona fide Orthodox shul.

    • Living a fairly secular life, but being zionist, I did in 2006 put both of my kids in Jewish School in London UK, state schools became toxic, I was concerned at first that they would not have a well rounded education, I was wrong, they both turned out fine.

    The current false narrative is:

  9. Forcing anyone who doesn’t support the party line into silence is becoming more common, despite our First Amendment. Various approaches to circumvent legal restrictions on binding agreements with minors are also becoming more common. LibsofTikTok, in the same timeframe, posted a pharmacy system’s notice that parents could soon no longer access their own child’s records, nor have any right of refusal, and said this was widespread.
