There are an awful lot of strange things about the war in Ukraine. Here’s another one.
The New York Post reported matter-of-factly Monday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy “headed to Staten Island University Hospital on Monday to visit his country’s wounded soldiers after he landed in the Big Apple for this week’s United Nations General Assembly.” It was presented as a heart-warming story: the Commander-In-Chief gives a morale boost to those who have been wounded in defense of the nation, and everyone goes away feeling inspired.
But wait. Why are the Ukrainian wounded in a hospital on Staten Island, instead of, say, Kyiv, or Odessa? It seems an awful long way for a wounded person to have to travel for treatment. Yet the Post offers no explanation of why they’re there, how they got there, or what the implications of their being there might be. Sky News offered raw footage of the event but no further explanation.
The Post says that Zelenskyy “thanked Ukrainian fighters receiving treatment at the hospital and even helped one soldier out of his wheelchair and to his feet as the two took a photo together.” And even more inspiring, “during his visit, Zelenskyy handed out commendations to the injured soldiers, some confined to wheelchairs and others with prosthetic limbs.”
While he was there, “he also toured the facility” and gave “a short address to the soldiers in the room.” That was when the inspirational content of this story reached its height, for Zelenskyy “reportedly issued the country’s battle cry, ‘Glory to Ukraine’ with soldiers replying ‘Glory to the heroes’ in Ukrainian.”
Gee, that’s swell, but when did Staten Island become part of Ukraine? Did Zelenskyy buy it with all the billions that the Biden regime has been shoveling his way?
Michael Dowling, whom the Post identifies as “the CEO of Northwell Health, which owns Staten Island University Hospital” offered a clue to this curious scenario when he said that “18 Ukrainian soldiers have received treatment at the medical center since March.”
That leads us to an ABC News story from March 30, which informs us that “a U.S.-based nonprofit is providing life-changing prosthetic limbs to Ukrainian soldiers who were wounded while defending their country against Russian forces. In just a few months, Kind Deeds has helped 11 soldiers receive and get fitted with prostheses.” The story adds that the soldiers were being treated at Staten Island University Hospital.

I’m really sorry, Robert, but I have to disagree with the general thrust of your argument.
For 3% of the USA’s military budget, Ukraine is taking the brunt of the biggest event to take place on our planet – the destruction of Communism. That’s a good deal! And if Ukrainian soldiers are so badly injured that Ukrainian medical resources can’t cope, then transporting them to where advanced medical sources are available is OK with me.
There are also Ukrainian wounded in Britain and Germany and other European countries. We all need to help to destroy Communism. Bandages or bullets, it’s all the same to me.

I have news for you: Russian communism died in 1991, & brought down w/ it both the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact. The successor party to the CPSU – the CPRF – has never won a nationwide election in Russia since then. Today, what Russia has is a corporatist economy much like Latin America. It totally bungled its free market transition to capitalism in 1992 w/ its “shock-therapy” initiatives that tried to take Russia from a welfare state overnight to one where citizens had no economic protection, destroying the social stability, and destroying the political career of Yegor Gaidar. Had they first initiated a phase in of the free market and then a phase out of the communist welfare state, they’d have been more successful. But a lot of it was thanks to US consultants like Jeffrey Sachs, this whole initiative was a disaster
Also, Ukraine-Russia relations were fine until 2014, when Victoria Nuland and Geoffrey Pyatt both worked together to overthrow the elected government of Viktor Yanukovich. Once Russia saw the US trying to micromanage Ukraine, after rebuffing Russian attempts at friendship, and particularly after Ukraine passed a law removing Russian as one of the official languages of Ukraine, despite it being the main language in Crimea and Donbass, they stepped into Crimea and Donbass. Otherwise, for 22 years, the Russians were just fine letting Ukraine be, and didn’t even claim Crimea, which they wanted, both for its Russian population as well as the Black Sea fleet
What we are doing now is akin to what the Soviets did in 1962 w/ the Cuban missile crisis. We couldn’t tolerate the idea of Soviet missiles so close to our shores (although today, the Biden Administration has no issues w/ Chicom observation posts there). Yet, somehow, the Kremlin is expected to tolerate NATO presence on the border some 300 miles from Moscow?
I think Tucker Carlson is right: the US deep state & uniparty can’t rerun things like Covid-19 lockdowns, stealing the election, & so on to take full control over the country: their only trump card left is war w/ Russia. They’d like to start one before the elections next year so that they can suspend or cancel the elections, since all other attempts to stop Trump are failing

Wow, how does anyone still think the Russians are Communists! They learned a lesson about Communism since 1917. Don’t confuse them with China. They have rebuilt the Christian churches after the end of the USSR and gone back to worship in the Russian Orthodox Church. Russia is a Capitalist country that wanted to join NATO, but was refused by US political wonks who needed an enemy to justify the US industrial-military-politician “defense” profits.
The unusual Nation is China which invented a new hybrid system of both government and private ownership of the means of production. The private sector handles sales, production and delivery while the government makes the investments for expansion, research, opening other nations to trade, and controlling the population. This may be prove to more or less potent than pure Capitalism. Time will tell.

In case people think Ukraine is harmless, remember that both Krushchev & Brezhnev came from that country during the Soviet era.
