India scored another success in its ongoing war against jihad terrorism after security forces busted an Islamic terror cell in the northern region of Kashmir. Police arrested five operatives belonging Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist group, the local media reported Monday.
The Lashkar-e-Taiba was behind the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks that killed 166 and wounded over 300 Indian and foreign nationals. Besides funding and training from Pakistan, Al-Qaida, growing stronger under the Taliban rule in Afghanistan, also has close ties to Lashkar-e-Taiba and other terror outfits waging jihad in India’s Muslim-majority Kashmir region. In recent months, Al-Qaida has stepped up its efforts to recruit Indian Muslims as part of its worldwide jihad.
Lashkar-e-Taiba – much like Al Qaeda and other Islamic terror groups operating in the region – believes in the doctrine of Ghazwa-e-Hind, a prophecy based on the Hadith, or the purported sayings of Islam’s founder Mohammed, predicting the conquest of Hindu-majority India though jihad.
Tens of thousands of Indians have been killed since 1990s in the jihad waged by Muslim terrorist groups aimed at creating an Islamic state in Kashmir. Besides support from Pakistan, India-based Muslim charities have also been linked to financing jihad terrorism directed towards Indian soldiers and unarmed civilians.
