Freedom of expression means freedom to express one’s views even if they offend another. By ruling desecration of the Qur’an out of the bounds of the freedom of expression, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani demonstrates that he doesn’t understand what the freedom of expression is, or wants to destroy it, or both.

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the emir of Qatar, used most of his address to the U.N. General Assembly in New York on Tuesday for boilerplate about sustainable development, rising levels of income inequality, and calls for other nations to resolve their differences through negotiation rather than war.
The extraordinary moments came when al-Thani declared his passionate support for the Palestinians against the Israeli “occupiers,” whom he accused of implementing an “apartheid” system, and his tirade against “idiots” who burn the Quran….
Al-Thani reserved his most heated remarks, after his tirade against Israel, for Westerners burning the Quran under free speech protections. He portrayed Quran burning as one of the most contemptible expressions of “racism” and “incitement against entire peoples, religions, and civilizations.”
The emir advised his Muslim brethren not to “get distracted by an idiot or a bigot whenever it occurs to him to provoke us by burning the Quran, or by other forms of triviality.”
“The Quran is too holy to be desecrated by a witless person,” he said.
However, al-Thani also rejected the notion that Western free speech principles should protect such provocative actions.
“Compromising the sanctity of others deliberately should not be seen as an example of the freedom of expression,” he declared.

He’s referring to more than the Quran. The one problem with his argument is that Islam itself calls for violating the sanctity of others. This includes more than religious artifacts or buildings. They defile the crucifix. They tear minarets off mosques of other sects. They defile women. Hey Emir: listen to yourself. Is it freedom of religion that gives you the right to kill those who don’t accept your god?

Qatar’s “Al Jazeera propaganda news” owner emir al-Thani forgot the desecration by officially-genocidal Islamofascist Turkey of the Byzantine Christian Orthodox Cathedral hAgia Sophia which was converted by Erdogan into a Mosque! This blasphemous desecration and conversion by Turkey was protested by EU,UNESCO and all civilized world! Neither does the Qatari leader take into account that Christian and Jewish minorities are under Islamist “religion cleansing” operations in all Islamist authoritarian regimes which have exported their lawless (at least under our Western standards) jihadists to the EU causing huge social upheaval and increased criminality to European societies. Islam in its entirety from the 7th century onwards knows nothing about true freedom of expression. As an example, imagine America colonized and developed by Muslims rather than Christians. Think the Declaration of Independence, the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights would have been produced by an early Muslim America? Never mind the capacity to apologize for past wrongdoings like slavery for which the Judeo-Christian world has profusely apologized but the Islamic world (which even castrated male slaves by the millions) never has.
Rooted in Christian theology, Judaic theology too, are intrinsic metaphorical seeds that go quite compatibly with what ancient Greece developed in the political realm, especially ancient Athens. No such seeds or elements have ever existed in Islam. And which partially, but only partially, elucidates the fact that Islam is the spiritual predecessor of Nazism and other totalitarian ideologies and why Christianity and Judaism most definitely are not.

What worries me is how far a morally declining government and its war machine are willing to go, attempting to recover its world supremacy. Nowhere did the framers of the Constitution include a necessity to be, and retain status as, a supreme power. The Constitution enshrines citizens, rather than government, with inalienable rights.

Actually it’s a witless person who reacts to it. Stop reacting and it will fade away. The Quran means nothing to those who have not read it just as any unread book. Without reading the words and organizing one’s life by its principles the Quran is just a collection of words on paper as is the Bible. Notice anyone getting upset over burned or discarded Bibles? Do you think Christians belief in Jesus is affected by what happens to a Bible?
Muslims themselves burn Qurans or place them in moving water to discard them. When Europeans pull discarded Qurans out of canals, it doesn’t look like it was treated as if particularly holy.
This reaction to burning Qurans and the reason it happens has nothing to do with sanctity, it has everything to do with the Islamic sense of superiority that comes from the “best of peoples” words of the Quran. There is always some jerk who will pull your chain if you insist on wearing it.

I regard the words, commands, instructions, etc. of the Bible as Holy and Sacred.
When I was much younger, an older friend who felt the same as I told me, “You can tear up a Bible, because it isn’t the paper that’s sacred; it’s the Words.”
We had been discussing Christians in times of persecution when Bibles were taken away, so some had torn the book and hidden the different pages in many places so they would at least have some if their home was searched.

I really wish a bunch of JihadWatch readers including myself could have protested this guy and other Muslim speakers at the UN. But the UN perimeters were barricaded for blocks, so there was no getting near these foreign Muslim speakers. They got NYC police protection better than most law abiding people from NYC.

Use that as an excuse to slowly chip away at our God given rights.
Expand the definition of unacceptable “hate” speech and add new groups from your voting base to the list.

Strange……I consider the burning of the terror guide, the koran, as a fun thing to do during ramadamadingdong. Sometimes a more practical use…..picking up dog poop. Or as a backstop at the range while using Israeli IMI ammunition, or lining a bird cage. You can’t use a koran to line a cat box tho’. Cats are clean creatures, and the koran is disgusting and dirty.
