Newquay, pop. 20,000, in Cornwall, is an idyllic, Masterpiece-Theatre kind of place, or at least it was, until the British government in its infinite wisdom decided several months ago to take over the largest local hotel – the Beresford — and use it to provide housing for about 200 migrants, nearly all of them Muslims, where at great government expense, they lived in unusually comfortable circumstances, happily unemployed, with room, board, and money supplied, along with gym memberships, by the government, while more permanent housing was eventually to be provided to them by the generous welfare state. They did not make life for the locals easy. As they had completely taken over every room in the hotel, there was no space for regular tourists; the tourist season, which begins at the end of winter, is the “lifeblood” of Newquay’s economy. The migrants were not moved out until April, and then in May the Beresford hotel was put up for sale. While the migrants were there, they posed a threat to female passersby, especially to young local girls, whom they crudely propositioned from their perches in front of the hotel. The townspeople decided to stage a protest against this state of affairs, a protest that is worth recalling, both for the fact that it happened and for the illustrative response it elicited. The organizers of a planned peaceful protest against a Cornish hotel being continually used to house asylum seekers have been called “racist and bigoted” by local politicians.
Both Conservative and Labour politicians in Cornwall have condemned the planned protest outside the Beresford Hotel in Newquay, Cornwall, due to take place on Feb. 25.
What an amazing want of sympathy on the part of these politicians for the people who elected them. And what a testament to the brainwashing so many politicians in Europe have been subject to – so afraid to do anything about any aspect of the Muslim migrant invasion that might subject them to being called – horrors! – racists, bigots, Islamophobes, fascists.
The leader of the Conservative group in Cornwall Council, Cllr. Linda Taylor, said she is committed to calling out protests against the hotels housing asylums seekers “for what they are, a racist and bigoted attack on a minority group of people.”
There was nothing racist or bigoted about this event. It wasn’t an “attack.” It was a peaceful protest, a cry de profundis by the townspeople that “attention must be paid.” The citizens of Newquay were, like so many people all over Europe, being asked to pay the price for an immigration policy fashioned by the political elites, that is transforming, for the worse, so many neighborhoods, and towns, and cities all over Europe. But those who impose these immigration policies seldom feel its effects themselves. They are protected by money and by rank from the reality they have helped create, a reality now endured by those below them on the economic and social totem-pole.
Why is it “racist and bigoted” to want to keep your town a place where tourists will want to stay, given that tourism is essential to Newquay’s economy? If all 103 rooms at the Beresford Hotel – enough for 200 guests – were filled with migrants, that meant 200 potential tourists would have to find other accommodations. What if the other hotels and inns were all booked up? And why was it “racist and bigoted” to want to have your streets safe for girls and women to walk along, without running a gauntlet of catcalls from leering migrants who are convinced non-Muslim girls are just asking for it?
The local Labour group’s secretary, Stephen Hick, said: “We condemn utterly attacks against migrants in the Newquay area and anywhere they occur, we call upon our members and everyone to oppose the scapegoating of the innocent and vulnerable.”…
“Attacks”? What “attacks”? There were no attacks “against migrants” but merely a call to protest their continued stay at the Beresford Hotel so that hundreds of tourists can again be accommodated there, and the town restored to its previous condition of being secure and serene for both its inhabitants and visitors. Tourists are less likely to stay in Newquay if a large hotel right in the middle of the town is filled with 200 Muslims, mostly young males, living in it and using it as a base for scouting out the environs.
And where does this supposed “scapegoating” come in? No one is blaming the migrants for the sins of others. That is what it means to “scapegoat” someone. It is they, the migrants, and their behavior, which is objected to, beginning but not ending with their propositioning of girls on the street.
A Facebook page for the event makes it clear the demonstration has been organized by concerned local residents and is not affiliated with any political party or right-wing group.
This protest was from the ground up, neither organized by, nor beholden to, any political party. It should not have been dismissed, as both the local Conservative and Labour Party representatives attempted to do, as a “racist and bigoted” attack on the “innocent and vulnerable.” Islam is not a race. Nor were the idle men lolling about on their comfortable beds in the Beresford Hotel, or walking outside to watch, and sometimes proposition, the girls of the town, in any sense either “innocent”or “vulnerable.” These Muslims schemed to enter Great Britain, passing themselves off as asylum seekers when in truth they were economic migrants, in the country to take advantage of every benefit – free housing, free medical care, free education, family allowances, unemployment benefits, and more – but without any intention of integrating into the society of the indigenous Infidels whom they regard, after all, as “the most vile of created beings.” It was the townspeople of Newquay who are truly the “innocent” and “vulnerable.” They were the ones whose financial wellbeing was at stake if tourism in the town suffered because of the 200 off-putting migrant residents in the Beresford Hotel. They were the ones whose wives and daughters were being propositioned by those migrants, and if some of the townspeople were made anxious by the stories about Muslim grooming gangs, who could blame them?
The organizer explains that residents take issue with the fact the hotel appears to continue to be exclusively used by asylum seekers despite the local Conservative MP, Steve Double, seeking assurances from the Home Office back in November that the hotel would not be used in this capacity “beyond the end of winter so as to not impact on our important tourist season.”
Tourism is the lifeblood of Cornwall’s local economy, and many fear the continued presence of asylum seekers in the area will not only keep local accommodation booked up but deter much-needed tourists from visiting.
These soi-disant “asylum seekers” in the town of Newquay were responsible for two things: first, Newquay had two hundred fewer places to accommodate visitors; second, tourists who did visit may well have been put off by the unsettling presence of such a large number of Muslim migrants, and chose to go elsewhere.
Organizers also cite community safety as an issue following a number of incidents concerning residents of the hotel intimidating and harassing young women in the area. “We do not know their criminal backgrounds. Many of them would have arrived with zero documentation and could literally pretend to be anyone. They have the freedom to roam the streets and also to go missing and be unaccounted for.”
What could the local politicians say to this? They could not deny that there were “a number of incidents” when inhabitants of the Beresford Hotel were “intimidating and harassing young women” in the area. How could they claim that concern about that was all “bigotry”?
Finally, protesters object to the hotel’s occupants receiving “free accommodation, free food, free money, prioritized healthcare and free gym memberships” while many local residents struggle with the cost-of-living crisis.
But that’s what these Muslims came for: the free housing, the free food, the free money, the free healthcare (and they are apparently being put at the head of the queue for being seen, and treated, by NHS doctors), and – of all the maddening extras – “free gym memberships.” How many townspeople in Newquay have it quite so easy?
One former local councilor, Angie Rayner, who is now affiliated with the right-wing Reform UK party, posted a copy of a Freedom of Information (FOI) Act request she obtained from Devon and Cornwall Police. Ms. Rayner asked the authorities how many separate incidents had been logged with the police regarding the hotel’s occupants since the beginning of November last year. The constabulary confirmed police officers had attended 21 separate incidents at the hotel between Nov. 1 last year and Jan. 23.
When asked how many arrests had been made, Ms. Rayner was informed that while no arrests had been made between Nov. 1 and Nov. 14, crime data was not available for the remaining period.
Isn’t it strange that the police could not make available any crime data about arrests at the hotel between Nov. 14 and Jan. 23? What could it have been that mades the police so reluctant to make public that information? If there had been few, or no, arrests, you can be sure that would have been promptly made known. Almost certainly the police don’t want the full extent of the Muslim criminality to be made known to the general public.
The people of Newquay were still being stigmatized as “racists” and “bigots” as recently as mid-July. Will the people of Newquay be able to recover their reputations and restore their town after all that has been imposed upon them by the government? Or will they be crushed by those eager to paint them as “racists” and “bigots” and – the most absurdly misapplied epithet to emerge – “fascists”? Everyone of sense should wish them well.

I don’t think that the Beresford was put up for sale in May as it simply returned to its previous status as the hotel used by Shearings Holidays after a couple of weeks of refurb. Of course it may have been part of a plan to “sanitise” the brand. Am guessing it will again be used for migrants for the winter season.

Ive asked my MP (con) if any other states, on their journey from wherever to the UK, have provided these chancers with 4 star hotels, mobile, cash, medical & dental aid on tap, whilst the Brits wait weeks for the above facilities. Compounding all this is how politicians in huge amounts regularly make many of the dumbest-ass decisions a person could make, as exampled by this article dealing with Cornwall, an area of England that I have visited and which is so beautiful and impressive. What the Hell good does it do to bring in huge numbers of followers of the worst religion of all time into your country—people who are brought up being told to despise all non-believers—and with the distinct possibility that your country will be permanently changed for the worse for doing so? Perhaps no one should be allowed to be in politics more than a handful of years—term limits and all that, though it is best to also keep a watch on unelected government bureaucrats (e.g., Anthony Fauci) because they can do great harm as well and so perhaps term limits for them too.
As Thomas Jefferson observed, government is best which ordinarily governs least. One way of accomplishing this is to just have regular folks go into politics for a few years and then get out rather than having that curse of curses, i.e., the professional life-time politician. Think Joe Biden as an example here.

Cornwall, already the poorest county in the UK, has been occupied by England for centuries. Many of its natives have been displaced by gentrification created by English and other tourists who buy up summer residences and drive Cornish natives from the housing market. For centuries its main export has been its people who have migrated to the Earth’s four corners. My paternal ancestors were Cornish miners of the moorland.
