TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei denounced the desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden as a bitter and perilous plot, urging the Swedish government to hand the perpetrator over to the Muslim countries’ judicial systems for the harshest punishment.
“Effrontery to the sacred realm of the Holy Quran in Sweden is a bitter, conspiratorial and dangerous incident. The severest punishment for the perpetrator of this crime is the consensus view of all Islamic scholars,” the Leader said in a message on Saturday.
“The Swedish government should also know that by supporting a criminal, it has taken a war stance against the Islamic world and attracted the hatred and enmity of the Muslim nations and many of their governments,” Ayatollah Khamenei added.
“The responsibility of that government is to hand over the perpetrator of the crime to the judicial systems of Islamic countries,” the Leader noted, Press TV reported….

Appropo this call out against the burnings of Qur’ans- R Spencer has certainly found this to be less than desirable- calling instead for people to actually read it and then make up their minds about the critical issues of Sharia, Jihad, et al. I would like it if you could give a url to the article of his that you cite. I did take a quick look and don’t know if I’m incorrect in saying this, but I thought I came across a twitter post of his saying that the prophet mohammed never harmed those who insulted him?!? If I’m wrong I apologize but I think thats what I saw….

mgoldberg, if you read Robert Spencer’s book “Did Muhammad Exist? An Inquiry Into Islam’s Obscure Origins”, you will see that it is unlikely that the “Prophet” was a historical figure.
But if you accept that he was, it makes no sense to ignore what Islamic texts–the Qur’an and Hadith–say about him. He is described as having had his critics assassinated. The claim that he never had anyone harmed is both un-Islamic and *very recent*. It is another form of Taqiyya, and *not* something flogged by Robert Spencer.

The koran is just paper and text. There are millions of copies. Why should a religion be so concerned about the burning of one copy? Is that religion so fragile that a koran book burning is going to destroy that religion? Fragile and weak.
