Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Newsom SSR) turned 90 years old on Thursday. She has been in the Senate since the day after Bill Clinton was elected president of the United States. Before that, she was mayor of San Francisco, starting about midway through the Carter administration. Her political career began when she was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors; that was during the first year of the Nixon administration. Feinstein is almost ten years older than Old Joe Biden. Yet instead of being hailed as the far-Left’s elder statist, DiFi awoke on her 90th birthday to a rude surprise: CNN threw her under the bus. Using the Americans With Disabilities Act ADA as a reference, a United States Senator should be able to perform the “essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation”.

Do you recall, Dr. Lincoln, when we all began to hear of ‘forced retirement” in the business sector? I can remember some physicians saying they could still do their jobs, whether it was serious surgery or something else, and said it was unfair to make them quit just because they had reached a certain age. I also recall some doctors well into the winter of their lives, continuing to do a fine job and people in other professions who would be forced to call it quits.
Now, it seems that politicians who make the laws we all have to obey or be subject to fine or prison, getting so old and decrepit that they have forgotten how to tie their shoelaces, or answer a simple question, staying on the public payroll.
DiFi and others would need “unreasonable accommodations” in order to even be seen as performing the basic functions of showing up to vote yes or no, much less debate the merits of policies and make informed decisions

I recall that some companies had that written into their company policy…that when one reached a certain age, they were “let go.” Or “fired” …either way, they were ‘forced’ out of their jobs.
But politicians are treated much differently, as if they have special powers and abilities far beyond mortal men.

“Advanced” age is an important risk factor, but it is only a risk factor. Because of this, I would recommend age-based and periodic “fitness for duty” for jobs requiring certain physical and mental acuity standards, similar to what is now done with airline pilots.
I’ve treated patients with Alzheimer’s disease in their 50s. Very sad. I’ve also scrubbed on complex surgical cases with absolutely top-notch surgeons who were in their late 60s.
Compare and contrast Sen. Grassley (age 89) with pretend Pres. Biden (age 80).
Chuck is sharp as a tack whereas bedpan Biden can’t even find the men’s room without assistance.

i agree. I’ve seen older people respond quickly and accurately and others, not so much. Each person is different; no two are exactly alike. So having tests now and then is more than reasonable.
there is really no “one size fits all:” as you show by your comparison of biden and Sen Grassley.
I was out of commission for some hours and was watching the Greatest American Hero. One of the episodes had John Hart, one of the actors who played the Lone Ranger, starring as the Lone Ranger and riding the horse. He was an older man and still handled his horse and his car pulling the horse trailer….just as he did when he was young and the Lone Ranger was a new show.
I had a friend who got Alzheimer’s in his forties. when he was told what he had, he quit eating. He would have lived a lot longer, but he didn’t want to go through what he was told was coming, nor put his wife and children through it. My mom died in her 90’s and her mind still worked just fine; it was other things that had worn out.
It’s just that politicians seem to get a pass when they should not.

I take your point, Mr. Spencer. But whoever replaces Feinstein is apt to be *much* worse. She was challenged for election recently for not being leftist enough. This is actually a common criticism, bizarre as it seems. Consider her district.
The most common name that comes up is Barbara Lee–who before “the Squad” pretty much had the lock on worst member of Congress.

No, it’s more likely to be Adam Schiff, who’s a big name now thanks to his anti-Trump jihad. Barbara Lee is about as likely to win as major leftists in the party in 2020 like Liz Warren, Bill de Blassio & so on. Whereas Schitt now looks like a martyr after his censure & removal from the intel committee
