There was an invitation to participate in a commemoration event. Ironically, for Mohamed S., an Egyptian, who is described there as a “martyr and hero.” In fact, a few days ago, the heavily armed man is said to have shot three Israeli soldiers with a Kalashnikov near Har Charif in the border area between Israel and Egypt. He himself also died in the firefight.
The background is still largely unclear, possibly a foiled drug smuggling played a role. The slain Mohamed S. is an Egyptian police officer. Whether he himself was involved in illegal activities and why he killed the Israeli soldiers is still under investigation.
The commemoration appeal reads as follows: “We ask Almighty Allah to forgive him and have mercy on him and let him dwell in his lavish gardens and balance his good deeds and gather him among the prophets . And the friends, the martyrs, the just and the good are companions.”
