The convicted murderer who killed eight people and wounded 11 others by speeding down a bike path in Manhattan six years ago will spend the rest of his life in prison after a jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict on the death penalty Monday.
Sayfullo Saipov, a citizen of Uzbekistan who admitted to FBI agents that he carried out the attack on behalf of ISIS on Oct. 31, 2017, was convicted in January of 28 counts, including murder and supporting a terrorist organization.
The jury, which was made up of nine men and three women, deliberated for nine hours over two days before informing the judge on Monday that they could not reach a unanimous decision in the penalty phase of Saipov’s trial.
His defense attorney, David Patton, argued that “meeting death with more death is not the answer,” telling jurors that Saipov will be sentenced to one of the most “isolated, solitary” facilities in America in Florence, Colorado.
Prosecutors, meanwhile, told the jury that Saipov is “a proud terrorist” who has shown no remorse for his crimes.
“He chose to come to this country and fight for an enemy,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Amanda Houle told jurors. “And it is his choices that call for the most significant punishment that the law provides: the sentence of death.”…

The death penalty is falling out of favor in many countries. In Europe it was abolished in most countries of the EU, for example. So, it is not surprising that it was not imposed here. It is still odd how much favor abortion has. How many unborn children have been aborted sind it became a legal option? Millions, I think.

Governor Pataki reinstated the death penalty in New York State in 1995–but there has not actually been an execution there since 1963. New York did away with its death row in 2007.
But it does sound as though Sayfullo Saipov *could* have gotten the death penalty–but in this case it would just probably mean he’d be less likely to be released at some point. I cannot really imagine anyone being executed in the environment in New York today, no matter how hideous their crime.

Fight those of the disbelievers who are close to you, and let them find harshness in you…” Maiming and murdering people who are non-Muslim in a jihad truck attack as the jihadist did is a very effective way show non-Muslims “Harshness.” Strange teachings for what some call a “peaceful religion.” Likewise the Quran teaches in 47:4 “When you encounter the disbeliever’s strike off their heads until you make a great slaughter among them…”A truck jihad attack can, for sure, make a greater “slaughter among them than a sword can.” As the Quran also instructs in 2:191. “Kill the disbeliever wherever we find them.”

Sadly we all will get to support this jerk for the rest of his life. And no doubt he will attempt to spread the islamic faith to his fellow prisoners. Sadly the eight people he murdered don’t get to live out their lives while he rots in prison.
