The Taliban complained that the airstrike that took out Al Qaeda leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri violated the Doha agreement. Secretary of State Blinken retorted that hosting the Al Qaeda leader in Kabul violated Doha.
Not that anyone in their right mind should have expected anything else.
The scam agreement, negotiated under the auspices of the Taliban’s Qatari state sponsors, was a hoax that allowed the Islamic terror group to take over even as it repeatedly violated the agreement.
The Haqqani network, which is effectively in charge in Kabul, was the interface between the Taliban and Al Qaeda. Al-Zawahiri was reportedly in a Haqqani safehouse when he was killed.
Al Qaeda and Al-Zawahiri these days are a lot less relevant than they used to be (and not just because Al-Zawahiri finally got his virgins), but the Taliban don’t do freebies.
Hosting the Al Qaeda leader was…
1. A statement of ideological support
2. Meant that Al Qaeda or its donors have been financially aiding elements of the Taliban
3. Represent an expectation that Al Qaeda will aid the Taliban militarily
All of this means that, as expected, Al Qaeda is comfortably ensconced with its allies who are in charge in Afghanistan.
Taking out Al-Zawahiri is a fine demonstration that we can still drone even in Kabul. But it also shows the depth of our defeat in Afghanistan. We’re right back to where we started. And we could have done it without the corrupt, rotten deal with the Taliban.

-Why would Biden abandon Bagram Air Force Base? It is key to all of Southwest Asia – just 400 miles to China and 500 miles to Iran. It is a vitally important geopolitical, military and intelligence platform with consequences and “reach” that involve far more than just Afghan regional matters. Who, specifically, made the recommendation to just walk away from Bagram – and then who gave the order? Historians will call this one of the stupidest and most counter-indicated decisions in US history.

True, Mortimer–it is tactics 101 to evacuate civilians first, and military bases only after civilians, military families, and support staff have gotten out–and that the last flights all leave from military bases, *not* commercial airports.
I don’t know if abandoning Bagram early was gross ineptitude or something worse, but I cannot imagine that *any* general would agree to this.

I’m pretty sure that no-one could ever trust any deal done with the Taliban. They are surely the worst of the worst and inhabit their own very primitive planet which is totally dedicated to keeping humanity living in the shithouse way that people lived way back in 7th century Arabia. Whether the Taliban double crossed anyone who made a deal with them immediately or it took a bit more time, they are bound to always go back of any deal. They are scum of the earth.

We’ve been playing this losing game now since 9/11. Isn’t it about time we changed the rules of the game? First we have to identify what that Islam is, a political system that seeks world domination. It is without argument, the most deadly of the four ‘isms’, Islamism, Communism, Fascism and Nazism.

Yes that Ayman al Zawahiri died in the capital citiy of the Taliban is proof enough discover that al Qaeda in back in Afghanistan, “thanks” to evil horrible old Joe.
The treachery of Joe Biden for funding and supportng the Taliban is absurd as it’s also evil . It’s very evil.
The other thing worth mentioning is that Islamic fired al-Zawahiri was killed off in Kabul the capital city of the Taliban . Therefore the Taliban did give him safe haven on the land that Joe Biden just “gave over” with much high quality US military equipment
That they gave safe haven to al-Zawahiri shows that the Taliban still in spite of all the other things treacherous old Joe gives and does for them , the Taliban still hate America and the American people with the full passion of malice-filled Islamic hate .
Likewise this also reveals that the Taliban aren’t sorry ,at all ,that they gave Osama Bin Laden a base in Afghanistan scheme those horrendous jihad mass murder affronts of 9/11.

I do admire the game Pakistan played here. Earlier this year, they allowed Zawahiri to move to Afghanistan: he certainly wasn’t in Kabul during the US occupation. Then they gave the US his coordinates so that he could be taken out, and the Taliban exposed. Part of the reason being that the Tehrik-e-Taliban, or the Paki chapter of the Taliban, was at war w/ Islamabad, and so the latter decided to hit back at the Taliban and also improve its reputation at the UN
Not that they’ll listen, but the US should continue to treat Pakistan as a terror sponsor and not give either them nor the Taliban a dime – let alone a billion in “humanitarian” aid

One of the very few things the Americans asked the Taliban was not to host Al Qaeda again once they were back in power–after all, this is why the US invaded Afghanistan in the first place back in 2001 after 9/11. And here they are, less than a year later, with Al Qaeda’s leader in the capitol city.
And there is no reason to think that Zawahiri just showed up there–he has likely been there for months.
Of course the word of the Taliban is worthless–given their history, everyone should have known this.
