Not Just Jefferson: Now James Madison’s Home Gets an Anti-American Makeover

It’s clear now: the Left has embarked upon a concerted effort to rewrite American history and make Americans ashamed of our heritage at the very sites where it should be most celebrated. Last Sunday I reported that Thomas Jefferson’s home has been taken over by Leftist America-haters, and they didn’t stop there: now the same woke revisionists have gotten their clutches on the home of James Madison, and it’s easy to see why they would want to target the fourth president. He is, after all, known as the Father of the Constitution.

Madison’s home has the feel of having been taken over by an invading army, and in a certain sense, it has been. The New York Post reported Saturday that at Montpelier, Madison’s Virginia plantation, “not a single display focuses on the life and accomplishments of America’s foremost political philosopher, who created our three-branch federal system of government, wrote the Bill of Rights and the Federalist Papers, and served two terms as president. Instead, blindsided tourists are hammered by high-tech exhibits about Madison’s slaves and current racial conflicts, thanks to a $10 million grant from left-leaning philanthropist David M. Rubenstein.”

Rubenstein is no ordinary philanthropist. The Post has noted that he is behind the woke-ification of Jefferson’s Monticello also, forking over $20 million for that. Oh, and here’s a shocker: Rubenstein is “on the boards of the globalist World Economic Forum, China’s Tsinghua University, and the Council on Foreign Relations, among others.” Who could have guessed?

And so now the hapless visitors to Montpelier plunk down $35 for the privilege of seeing only three of the 22 rooms in Madison’s mansion. The tour guides have much more important things on their mind at James Madison’s house than anything so bourgeois and trivial as showing you James Madison’s house. According to one “10-minute multi-screen video,” the “Hurricane Katrina flooding, the Ferguson riots, incarceration, and more all trace back to slavery.” On the grounds, “dozens of interactive stations seek to draw a direct line between slavery, the Constitution, and the problems of African Americans today.”

In one exhibit, visitors learn that every last one of the nation’s first eighteen presidents, including John Adams, who fiercely opposed slavery, and Abraham Lincoln, who ended it altogether, actually “benefited from slavery in some way” and are thus to be condemned. In the gift shop’s children’s section, you’ll find American classics on the order of Ibram X. Kendi’s Antiracist Baby and Chelsea Clinton’s She Persisted.

Meanwhile, the only material you’ll find about the Constitution at the home of the Father of the Constitution “appears in a display that pushes the claim, championed by the controversial 1619 Project, that racism was the driving force behind the entire American political system.”

If these billionaires want to help black people they should be using their money to provide a way for the poor, oppressed black people in America to return to Africa where they can be truly free from “racist” white people. Uganda might be a good place to live after the discovery there of what could be the world’s largest deposit of gold. Ghana is another place that has expressed a desire to welcome black Americans who wish to return to the land of their ancestors. These blacks from the United States could help all the other countries in Africa to form a new and improved version of the U.S. They could form the United States of Africa – a place even better than the U.S. because – well, because the American version of the U.S. is racist don’t you know. And, oh yes, they can look to Liberia for inspiration.

Yes, let’s see how wonderful a world the African Americans can build back there in Africa, since they think the white man is the cause of all their problems and shortcomings in the USA. They should be able to build a wonderful utopia back there in Africa, free of the terrible white people. Of course, it is far easier to do the leftist thing and whinge and whine about how white oppression is their only problem and not their own failings and shortcomings.

      • The U.S. of Africa could even have a version of the American flag with black stars on a field of black with black stripes alternating with black stripes – to reflect the diversity of Africa. Oh wait, no, maybe a rainbow flag would be better to show how welcoming Africa is to black gay people also. Yeah, it could be a utopia not just for black straight people but black LGBTQ+etc people and even black Muslims too – as long as they are black. Just look at Nigeria. Yeah, it could work.

        • All good ideas, CogitoErgoSum. Certainly sounds as though it will all work out wonderfully and be a paradise. As you say, just look at Nigeria and throw in all the other black African countries. Just paradise on earth all of them. Because, of course, it is only that nasty white oppression that damages blacks.

        • BTW, some people think Nigeria got its name from the Latin word for black, i.e., “niger,” because the people living there were black but the website definitions.net says the name comes from the native term “Ni Gir,” meaning “the river Gir.” (I have no idea what “gir” means. My guess would be that it means “black” but I’m just guessing.)

        • I only know anything about Nigeria, CogitoErgoSum, from the reports here at Jihad Watch, which are usually about Muslims committing atrocities day after day. Maybe blacks from the USA could turn it into a utopia. Good luck with that. About 40 years ago, I had an adventurous friend here in Australia who went off to Nigeria (I think he was going to teach something or other) got into strife there (can’t remember what it was about) and had to get the hell out of place very quickly. It is so long ago that I can’t recall any details (I haven’t seen the guy for ages) but it sounded like a country where a person could easily get into trouble. I could never figure out why he went there, but he was a restless kind of guy who looked for adventure back then.

        • The other thing that I hear about Africa from time to time, CogitoErgoSum and gravenimage, is that China has bought huge influence there, probably got the African countries into huge debt in the usual way the Chinese regime works, same as China is doing out in the South pacific, with the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, also that economic basket case Sri Lanka, so Africa sounds like the usual mess that it always has been.

  3. I will share my comments made to American Thinker when they posted the two stories. I am disappointed you repeat them, blaming the donor rather than those who administer the respective sites.

    The real question is why those who run Monticello and Montpelier accepted money without conditions that guaranteed the funds be spent to further a patriotic theme. They are the ones responsible for institution CRT. Why aren’t their names shared? Couldn’t possibly be that Attacking a Jewish donor is more acceptable than revealing the truth.

    Why was Monticello sold and not acquired by the National Park Service?

    Same question: Why isn’t this part of the National Park system. And, don’t blame Jewish donor when clearly MDC was group that instituted CRT

    • As I suggest above, maybe future Jewish donors should switch to helping form a United States of Africa and forget about helping the United States of America. I would not mind.

      • I would hope that there will be an honest outrage over this whole diminution of the sites, of the founding fathers with this half witted critical race theory destruction of what should be the superb stories of these founding fathers of the constitutional republic. And all the tribes who enslaved other tribes in Africa- out of all that slave trading that went on for 2000yrs and which didn’t end when the west ended it’s slave trade- all that might be footnoted by mentioning that it was a bunch of white men who discussed advocated and fought for the end of slavery and those founding fathers were at that forefront.

        • I’m not sure where or when slavery started but white people surely did put an end to it in the countries they controlled. Now whites are being blamed for all of slavery – as if no other people engaged in slavery. If white people made any mistakes ending slavery in the U.S. it was in not returning the black people they freed to their countries of origin. Too many black people had come to hate (and still teach their children to hate) all white people because of what happened to their ancestors. I think if blacks can’t move past that the only solution is that they move away from the country they hate so much.

        • I’m with you 100%. If we want things to change we can’t sit around and bitch to each other, we have to do something.

          I wrote to Governor Youngkin about the misappropriation of the properties of our Founding Fathers in Virginia and will be writing other relevant officials.

          There are already plenty of museums that address slavery, including the necessary information at the aforementioned properties, but to treat it as the focus of the site is Maoist.

    • dave, I don’t think the issue is that David Rubenstein is Jewish–there are many Jewish American patriots.

      Rubenstein was an aide to Jimmy Carter, lauds Joe Biden, and is unhinged in his hatred of Donald Trump–he is very far left. I don’t know how much this had had to do with the “woke” turn at Montecito and James Madison’s home, but from what I have seen he would seem to support it.

      • Agreed. I didn’t notice the name or assume a connection other than that of yet another rewrite of US history.

  4. Guess it won’t be mentioned that thousands of free blacks owned black slaves (e.g., per the 1830 census some 4,000 free blacks owned some 13,000 black slaves—which rose to some 20,000 by 1860). Also what won’t be mentioned is that the Western world was the first civilization to realize that slavery was wrong and took many measures to end it, for instance the clause in the American Constitution forbidding the African slave trade after 1808 and the 19th century British West African Squadron, about 1/6h of the entire British fleet, preventing at least 150,000 black Africans from being enslaved in said trade. Then too were all the American Indian tribes, like the Five Civilized Tribes in what is now Oklahoma, siding with the Confederacy in order to preserve their extensive black slave system, typified by the fact that the last Confederate General to surrender to Union forces was General Stand Watie, a Cherokee chieftain.

    We live in a very phony time where agendas are taught and not the truth. The main culprit for this is Leftism and it is supported by a very culpable secondary culprit, i.e., ignorance.

    When I was young, Canadians I knew, thought America was our neighbour and friend, now if you praise anything American, you are an outcast. The World Economic Forum’s Klaus Schwab says “You will own nothing and be happy.”, we will all be the madmen’s slaves.

    A doctor in Ontario, worked at a hospital where they mandated you must be vaccinated. He left and went to another hospital where you did not have to be vaccinated. Billy Gates paid a visit to the hospital, gave a donation of 5 million dollars and just days later all doctors and nurses were told they have to be vaccinated.

    I have not watched the Canadian CBC (Canadian Build Back Better Corporation) for 25 years. The writing has been on the wall for a long, long time, the slide, the rhetoric, the all things US are bad. They should be know as he Canadian Brainwashing Corporation.

    Klaus Schwab would have you believe life under the new world order will be wonderful, no hate, no need to stress yourself and worry about tomorrow, he vill look after you. The gradual creep to hell is coming at a much quicker pace, be prepared.

    The Muslims are always demanding everything, you must join the small percentage of people who cherish freedom and demand all people of the World Economic Forum, be mocked, fired, removed from any boards, etc. NOW. Stand up to the bastards.

  6. What will happen to the WHO’s drugs, drugs, drugs mantra under the World Economic Forum? Go back 100 years when doctors used natural cures, homeopathy, herbs to cure people. Then along came David Rockefeller who founded big Pharma. Homeopathy was mocked, doctors who supported natural cures – not Rockefeller’s drugs were sent to prison.
