New in PJ Media:
Yes, it has come to this. History will record that the Vice President of the United States, a heartbeat away from leading what they used to call the free world, opened a meeting on July 26, 2022, by stating with the utmost seriousness: “I am Kamala Harris. My pronouns are ‘she’ and ‘her.’ I am a woman sitting at the table wearing a blue suit.” She even looked down at her lapel as she said “wearing a –” and paused briefly as if to verify that the suit was still blue and hadn’t started to identify as gray or black while she wasn’t looking.
When we were kids in the 1960s and 1970s, we thought that by the 2020s, we’d be driving around in star cruisers and flying to the moon for dinner. Instead, we have to announce to a waiting world whether we are male, female, or something else altogether, and the color of our clothing.
Harris, of course, wasn’t being gratuitously ridiculous, or at least any more than she usually is. She was addressing a “Roundtable with Disability Advocates,” and everyone else who spoke also began by stating their pronouns and what they were wearing. This was apparently intended to be an attempt to make blind people feel more included; when Greg Price responded to this spectacle with “wtf lol,” Kendall Brown, who describes himself/herself (who knows these days?) as a “healthcare advocate fighting to defeat Republican supermajorities,” shot back: “It’s an event commemorating the Americans with Disabilities Act, you mean-spirited ghoul. Attendees decided to help blind participants feel more included by using visual language when introducing themselves. Straight up, there is no difference between the childhood bully mocking disabled kids on the playground and sh**ty dudes like @greg_price11 mocking disabled adults who are just trying to make the world a tiny bit friendlier for one another. How dead inside do you have to be to mock disabled people trying to be more inclusive of disabled people at an event for disabled people?”
Brown might have a case if all Harris had done was announce what color suit she was wearing, although it’s silly to think that blind people will feel more “included” if everyone begins speaking by announcing his or her choice of attire. There have been blind people throughout history, including some people of immense achievement (Homer, Galileo, John Milton, Jorge Luis Borges, Helen Keller, Andrea Bocelli, Ray Charles, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Stevie Wonder, and on and on), and I’m not aware of a single one in any time or place who ever said, “I sure would feel a lot more included if y’all would tell me what you were wearing.”
There is more. Read the rest here.

When a person is born blind, they have no idea about colors. None. I wrote a novel some years ago, “The Color of Darkness,” and my protagonist was born blind. I had to think up creative ways for the girl to understand what others meant when they talked of color.
this world has just gotten so stupid and one can laugh at harris, but it isn’t really funny at all.
the pretend woman, the double ugly male who wears dresses, would believe this to be a kindness. In his male voice, with his Adam’s apple going up and down, he could tell the blind in the audience that he is a she, but I think they wouldn’t be so blind as not to see.
Telling those blind from birth that one is wearing a “blue dress” is not a kindness, but is talking down to those people.

*Exactly*, Somehistory. I make that point myself in my comment below, albeit less eloquently than you did.
I wish I could read your book.
somehistory says
thank you, g. I’ll bet you do look nice in your dress. I’m wearing grey shorts and a white blouse, both made of cotton. trying to stay cool. don’t much care how I look at the moment.
I wish you could too. I wrote it so long ago, and am not sure where I put it. I was too busy working at the time I finished it to send it out for publishing. But I did allow a supervisor at work to read it and she and her fella said it was really good.
It costs so much to send it and takes so long to get back a word of ‘sorry’ and “hope it finds a nice home,’ and then to send again. I have been published, which is a thrill; and I believe that one was some of the best writing I have done. alas. and sigh.
perhaps I should look for it and maybe send it to some house. maybe

You are right about publishing, Somehistory–I think my situation is similar. My husband writes, also. Still might be worth revisiting your story.
somehistory says
thanks, g. I was remembering last evening about the story line, and wondering just what I did with the manuscript. I might have to do a complete re-write to get it in print.
Infidel says
You could send her a PDF of your book, or post an online link here from where it can be downloaded
somehistory says
That’s probably something you could do, I ‘m not so sure I could. First, I have to find it. I no longer have the pc I wrote it on, but I do believe I still have the printed pages…somewhere. I have moved a few times since I completed the printing, and I am no longer organized. so, first, I’ll have to find it, or just re-write it from memory. It won’t be exactly the same.
One thing about me…if I write a comment, and then press the wrong combo of keys, and erase some or all of it, I can’t write it the same way. I have a problem, I know. Keeps me humble.
but, I intend to look for it in the next few days and see if I can either locate it, or begin a rewrite. Now that I’ve thought about it again.
Infidel says
I was listening to Andrew Wilkow today, and he made precisely that point. While there are people who lost their eyesight at some stage in their life and therefore do know colors, those born blind would have no idea. Point is – if the person can see, then he knows that she was wearing a blue dress, and if s/he can’t, then s/he has no idea what blue is. Unless we start redefining colors in the same way we’re re-defining genders
Even more ridiculous, of course, is people announcing their pronouns, which are only relevant in third person references. Generally, there is a single universal pronoun – “You” – for a person being addressed in any manner. Which would capture all the 63 genders and more!

I have watched Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and Ronnie Milsap all sit at the piano and sing. they move rather weirdly as none of them are able to see how others move while playing the piano.
Ray Charles was not born blind, but as a kid, saw his younger brother drown and then went blind. So, his movements didn’t look as strange as the other two singers.
there are a lot of things that one needs eyesight to appreciate, but they aren’t stupid just because they can’t see. this is something people with disabilities hate….the fake ‘understanding’ they get from idiots like harris.

Pretension…. that’s all it was. The pretense of ‘caring’ when it was caring about themselves, about how they ‘appear’ to others pretending to care. As RSpencer noted, the achievements of those with blindness
ennabled them to achieve what sighted people could be appreciative of and even envious of…. But this
tweedle dum, tweedle dee pretense about ‘inclusiveness’ it’s just agreeing to agree …. or else. Disagree with them? and you get to see how caring and loving they really are.

On the upside, she might be the only person in the Biden administration who knows, “what a woman is” ?

‘I Am Kamala Harris. My Pronouns Are She and Her. I Am a Woman Sitting At the Table Wearing a Blue Suit.’
……………………………………..
Wait–don’t you have to be a biologist to define what a woman is? After all, Ketanji Brown Jackson said this–so isn’t Kamala Harris being rather presumptuous?
Then, as a cisgendered woman, how dare she address a group like this, anyway?

Wow–now you are a “ghoul” if you don’t “use your pronouns” and tell everyone what you are wearing? It used to be that if you were requested to say what you were wearing it was a pretty shady phone call…
And while this silliness about color of dress *might* make people who have lost their sight feel more included, it would not have the same effect on those blind from birth. In fact, listing what colors you are wearing might even be seen as mocking the blind, since they wouldn’t know what blue or any other color really referred to, except in the vaguest conceptual sense.
Oh, and I am gravenimage, My pronouns are She and Her. I am sitting in my studio at my desk and I’m wearing a patterned blue and white dress with very fetching Seraphanite earrings in a silver setting. Shall I go on?

gravenimage, this weird pronoun stuff makes very little sense to me. It has gone right by me. I just had to google cisgendered because, even though I had heard it mentioned by people, I have never had a clue, nor even cared, what it meant. Quite a lot of stuff these days seems insane to me. When did all this pronoun crap begin? Good point about how they can’t even define what a woman is. We’ve had a few high up people out here in Australia stumbling around saying that they can’t say what a woman is. I think that it must be embarrassing to speak such utter garbage. I keep waiting for the sane majority to turn around and say, hey, we’ve had enough of this nonsense from the trans mob, so stop trying to inflict it on us
somehistory says
I saw a headline today that said the dems are not sure they can define what a woman is nor to say that men can’t get pregnant. complete nonsense.
Infidel says
It’s funny how one Berzerkley professor accused Sen Josh Hawley of denying the existence of trans-men by claiming that men cannot get pregnant. I can’t wait to see election ads of Republicans mocking their Dem rivals for suggesting that it’s even possible
somehistory says
It is crazy. Just like they mock him …i think it was him…they said ran from the *insurrection* mobs….when all the time, they have talked about how they felt like they ‘were gonna’ die”…and hiding.
their media likes to say how they have “toasted” or with some other term, gotten the better of ones such as Hawley and Gaetz, when they have done no such thing.
tim gallagher says
Yep, it is moronic nonsense on steroids. I am amazed that this garbage seems to be given the time of day by quite a few people. I do think that the vast majority of people do think it is the sort of idiocy that only academia and the media do take seriously.

It’s even more illustrative that ”Kendall Brown, who describes himself/herself (who knows these days?) as a ’healthcare advocate fighting to defeat Republican supermajorities,’ shot back.” The angry Vocabulario is typically for people with a chip on their shoulder. Here they have a chance to utter shit without being taken for a low life.
gravenimage says
Yes–and how disgusting is this? This is supposed to be for *all* disabled people, and the first “advocate” immediately makes it clear that his advocacy excludes one half of the nation.
I worked as an attendant for several disabled people through the Center for Independent Living in Berkeley when I was first at university, including one of the heads of the program.
I *never* expressed any political opinions unless my client brought them up first–some did–and I only openly disagreed with one client–coincidentally the head of program–once we had become close enough friends that it was not inappropriate, and even then I kept it very polite.
To have a political litmus test for who you are going to help is just grotesque, and this would be true whatever the politics involved. Of course, Brown can have his (or her, or their, or “zher”) own political views, but imposing them here and in this context is grossly inappropriate.

I really dont understand this pronoun nonsense, if a ”woman” calls herself she her then WTF does that even mean.
If I was referring to her, I would say her, if I said she said then I would say she said, so how can she say what I say when I refer to her or use the Past Tense saying she, none of this makes any sense to me whatsoever.
I know what I call this ”female”in a Blue Suit….
Kackling Kamala is her real pronoun and she can suck it up.
somehistory says
If I said I had pronouns, they would be I, me, and myself. I don’t refer to myself as anything other than those three. For the *belonging* word, I use my.
Infidel says
Precisely, and if I were to address you, you would be you, yourself and your possessive pronoun would be your. Either of us could be any of those 63 or however many genders there are, and it wouldn’t make a difference
