Yet another convert to Islam somehow gets the idea that his new religion commands him to do violence against unbelievers. Who taught Romeo Xavier Langhorne about Islam? Where does he go to mosque? Why isn’t this being investigated?
“Man Sentenced To 20 Years In Prison For Attempting To Provide Material Support To ISIS,” Justice Department, July 7, 2022:
Jacksonville, FL – United States Attorney Roger Handberg announces today that a Florida man was sentenced today to 20 years in federal prison, followed by 15 years of supervised release, for attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, also known as ISIS, a designated foreign terrorist organization.
Romeo Xavier Langhorne, 32, of St. Augustine, pleaded guilty in the Middle District of Florida to one count of attempting to provide material support to ISIS on May 13, 2021. According to court documents, Langhorne pledged his allegiance to ISIS at some point in 2014, knowing that ISIS was a designated foreign terrorist organization that engaged in acts of terrorism. Between 2018 and 2019, Langhorne reaffirmed his support of ISIS on various social media accounts, posted ISIS-produced videos to his YouTube account and participated in online ISIS chat rooms with like-minded individuals. In December 2018 and January 2019, Langhorne expressed in one of those chat rooms an interest in creating a video that would improve on existing videos demonstrating the making and use of a deadly explosive, triacetone triperoxide (TATP).
In February 2019, Langhorne began communicating with an undercover employee (UCE) of the FBI who was posing as someone working on behalf of ISIS. Langhorne told the UCE about his plans to create and disseminate an instructional video on making TATP and sought the UCE’s assistance in creating the video. Langhorne told the UCE that, in order to ensure that the video was not removed from the internet by service providers, it should include disclaimers advising that it was intended for educational purposes. However, Langhorne informed the UCE that his true purpose in making and distributing the video was to arm ISIS adherents and others with knowledge of how to make TATP and use it for terrorism-related purposes in support of ISIS.
During the summer of 2019, Langhorne sent multiple messages to the UCE for assistance with creating a Nasheed, which is a form of Islamic vocal music. Langhorne stated he wanted the Nasheed to include a particular recording of an ISIS member yelling “Allahu Akbar” while breaking out of prison, as well as a clip of children saying, “kill them all.” Langhorne explained that he wanted the Nasheed “to encourage justified retaliation” against the United States for its role in killing Muslims.
The FBI produced a video in accordance with Langhorne’s instructions, but – unbeknownst to Langhorne – it featured an inert chemical formula for TATP that would not produce an explosion. In November 2019, the UCE provided versions of the TATP video to Langhorne, and Langhorne distributed the video by uploading it to a video-sharing website.
Langhorne was arrested at his residence in Roanoke, Virginia, on November 15, 2019. Langhorne admitted in a post-arrest interview that he had “probably at some point” pledged allegiance to both ISIS and Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who was the leader of ISIS from 2014 until his death on October 26, 2019. Langhorne admitted that he communicated with the UCE and that he uploaded the TATP video to the internet….

The idea of a UCE aiding this man by actually producing a video for him makes me uncomfortable. He posed as a member of ISIS. It smacks of entrapment. There’s no way to know what this man might have done without an FBI agent searching for ISIS sympathizers. It’s not the same as an investigator actually infiltrating a group. The UCE was fishing for people like this man. It just seems wrong.

I’m just saying that the process that is being used here is questionable. The ends do not always justify the means. Granted, this guy originated the conversation but we have no way of knowing if the UCE prodded him or encouraged him in any way, into doing something he otherwise might not have followed through on. The FBI produced the video. It’s not the same as going into a chat room and observing what others are doing. Given its actions against American citizens over the past several years, the FBI should not be given our unqualified trust.

He was obviously looking for assistance to create his explosives video and putting the word onto ISIS-related chat rooms/sites.

It doesn’t seem to me, to be entrapment, and I have studied law…though not a lawyer…because to be “entrapment,” it has to be that a person would not…**not** likely engage in the action without encouragement.

In Dec 2018 and Jan ’19 he said in the chat room that he wanted to make the video on explosives. The agent communicated with him in Feb….after he had expressed his desire to make the video.
the LE monitor web sites to see if supporters of terror orgs are posting, what they say, what they are planning and where they are. this is one of the tools for finding out what might be in the works.
This was not entrapment because the guy would have done the video whether the agent got involved or not…and it would not have included the part that would keep it from actually creating an explosive.

From wiki: “Entrapment is a practice in which a law enforcement agent or agent of the state induces a person to commit a “crime” that the person would have otherwise been unlikely or unwilling to commit.”
Clearly this person was likely/willing to commit this crime, which is why he was seeking out help from his fellow Muslims to do so. The FBI simply confirmed and then charged him.

In a way, the UCE did “infiltrate a group,” just online instead of in person and in less danger online than in person.
mozlum cells don’t all have groups that meet in apartments when they can find chat rooms of like-minded thugs. They can arrange to meet in person for the actual assembly of weapons after they make their plans online. Kind of like outlaw gangs meeting in the saloon, not sitting together, but making eye contact and moving their heads to signal, “meet me tonight at the shack.”

from what was reported before on this case, and on what has been posted above, he was planning and trying to commit a terror act…if it was only in the form of a video that would assist others to create explosives, it was still an act supporting terror.
He was in the chat room **looking** for someone who could help him. the FBI monitors these different chat rooms…legally since they are in a public place…and when they saw what he had been doing, and what he wanted to do, they proceeded to use his own plans and his own desires to get enough on him for an arrest.
the FBI agents and top cheese, have shown that they are not worthy of absolute trust; but that doesn’t mean they are breaking the law in this case.
if he had never expressed his desire to join or help a terror group, isis or another, and had just been sitting in a chat room…or a diner…and eating a big hamburger and large fries or just writing about these and some agent or employee of the LE came in and started a conversation about how they would like to blow up some place if only they could find someone to help, then a lawyer could argue for entrapment if he went along with it and tried to follow through with a video or making an explosive device.
It’s all in the “what if” category. What was he saying and doing that would cause an agent to say, “what if I made contact?” he was trying to help isis with the making of a video on how to make an explosive. If he had just been talking food, had never expressed a desire to do wrong, the “what if” might lead to a charge of entrapment.
He was not a victim of entrapment.

Mother defends man accused of supporting ISIS
Now, News4Jax has obtained a handwritten three-page letter from his mother, Virginia Langhorne, with her side of the story. Virginia Langhorne sent the letter via fax to News4Jax’s sister station in Roanoke, WSLS.
In the letter, she said her son is not dangerous and needs help, not punishment.
“I do not want to appear on camera and I just feel you need to know these things about Romeo. The allegations against him are all false,” Virginia Langhorne starts the letter. “Romeo, just like Creigh Deeds’ son, has mental disorders and all his life he has had paranoid schizophrenia, ADHD, a personality disorder, depression and impairments that substantially limit him.”
The FBI labeled Romeo Langhorne a “long-time ISIS adherent.”
“Langhorne created and disseminated a video how to make “TATP’, a deadly explosive. Although the video includes disclaimers about educational purposes, Langhorne’s true purpose is to arm ISIS adherents and others with knowledge of how to make TATP,” according to a federal complaint.
His mother said Romeo Langhorne has been on disability most of his life and accuses the FBI of discrimination.
