Trudeau says guns are not to be used for self-defense in Canada

Canadian taxpayers are forking over cash for Trudeau’s security detail. While Justin Trudeau is fully protected by guns, he does not want to see other law-abiding Canadians protected from criminals, as he revealed in an interview.

Gun laws do not work to stop violent criminals. It’s an emotional ploy manipulated by Leftists who ignore the facts of how easy it is to obtain an illegal weapon. Trudeau’s disregard for Canadians is appalling.

Also, on top of banning handgun sales from law-abiding citizens — which in effect boosts the illegal gun market — he is simultaneously reducing sentences for those who commit violent gun crime, citing “racial equity” as his reason.

Rebel Media has launched a petition in efforts to stop Trudeau’s gun control measures, which will ultimately crack down on law-abiding citizens. Any potential criminal could obtain an illegal weapon, leaving law-abiding citizens defenseless. CTV news republished a story entitled Radio host proves how easy it is to find an illegal gun in Toronto.

Guns are for hunting and target practice, but never for self defense, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said this week, continuing his crusade against firearms.

Trudeau, who is pushing a sweeping measure aimed at freezing the sale, purchase, or transfer of handguns in Canada, told the Pod Save America podcast his country takes a completely different view of firearms than its southern neighbor. No one in Canada has a right to defend themselves, their family or their property with a firearm, Trudeau declared.

“We have a culture where the difference is: Guns can be used for hunting or for sport shooting in Canada – and there are lots of gun owners, and they’re mostly law-respecting and law-abiding – but you can’t use a gun for self-protection in Canada,” Trudeau said. “That’s not a right that you have in the Constitution or anywhere else.”

The firearms freeze now being considered by lawmakers in Ottawa is Canada’s “most ambitious attempt yet to restrict access to firearms in this country,” the CBC reported….

“There’s this sense that Canada responded to the shooting in Texas by suddenly turning around and banning guns,” Trudeau said. “But we’ve been working on this for seven years … We’ve had a lot of setbacks … but since we got elected seven years ago, we’ve been steadily working on strengthening gun control.”……

  3. If guns are not to be used for self-defense, then the logical result is that no law enforcement officers should have guns, either. Neither should Trudeau’s security detail.

    • Tell Canadians living 500 miles from a police station that they may not defend themselves.

  4. Taking away rights that have always been in place is not reasonable and this will be hated by the people. Canadians have no great problem with firearms and half of the licenses in Canada are held by women.

    Illegal handguns cross the border for use by criminal gangs. These will not be stopped by laws that target law-respecting people who own weapons for sport.

    Trudeau’s security will likely be INCREASED because of this offensive power grab and he will use his squad to keep protesters away from his photo-ops and selfies with large numbers of women who still think of him as the ‘national boyfriend’.

  5. Here in Canada, it goes WAY beyond not using guns to “defend” yourself.

    You are NOT allowed to defend yourself or your property AT ALL here.

    If you cause grievous harm to someone who’s broke into your home, even someone trying to kill you AND IT HAS HAPPENED – YOU are going to jail.

    Yesterday, an American conservative program gave example of a Canadian case, where a home owner woke up after being stabbed in his sleep, managed to fight off his assailant, in the end killing the intruder with the intruder’s own knife…

    And the home own went to prison for manslaughter.

    Several years ago, a man’s home was being firebombed by some crazy neighbors. He fired his shotgun INTO THE GROUND to warn them off, and HE spent a year in court/jail for “improper use of a firearm.”

    The ONLY reason his isn’t in jail right now, is because his security video showed the nuts throwing molotov cocktails.

    Here, home owners who beat up a burglar with NOTHING BUT THIER OWN FISTS, have gone to jail for assault, and EVEN BEEN SUED BY THE BURGLAR.

      It seems Leftards are having a gala time in providing a gun that should never be used. Doesn’t Canada’s constitution provide for right to property to her citizens? It is supposed to be a first world country. May be the Canadians can showcase their guns on the walls of the hall along with the prized catches of the glorious past !

      Even third world nations dispense better justice that this stupid govt of Canada.

      Self-defense is a recognized human right under international law.
      The Constitution Act of 1982 says “Everyone has the right to life, liberty and the security of the person, and the right not to be deprived thereof except in accordance with the principles of fundamental justice”.
      It goes on to list rights of people charged and finishes by saying you have the right to be found not guilty unless “it constituted an offense under Canadian or international law or was criminal according to general principles of law recognized by the community of nations”.
      Self defense crucial to securing your life and liberty.
      The outcomes of the cases you describe would seem to be in clear violation of the Canadian Constitution and of international law, which recognizes a human right to self-defense.

  6. Trudeau is declaring the guns are only for hunting and target practice, so does that mean that his protection detail isn’t going to be allowed to carry and use firearms for HIS protection. Also what about police and others who use a firearm as a tool in their every day work, are they to be disarmed?

    Of course not. Only those who are lawfully complying with Canada’s firearms laws are being punitively affected by Trudeau.

    Even the criminals who smuggle and use illegal guns are not afraid that Trudeau will do anything to stop their access and punish their use of illegal guns because Trudeau is reducing the penalties for using illegal guns.

    The only people being punished by Trudeau are Canadians who own legally purchased firearms.

    Trudeau’s agenda is to punish anyone who may oppose his political goal of creating an Autocracy with him as leader for life.

  7. I don’t know if Trudeau has ever used his brain in self-defense but it is definitely a deadly weapon with which he’s killing people. The man belongs behind bars with some of the cheapest quality Chinese surveillance cameras watching him 24 hours a day so he doesn’t accidentally hang himself with the toilet paper in his cell.

      Watching old episodes of The Fugitive with David janssen. In the first episode, he used the name James Lincoln…in AZ. as a bartender and trying to help a woman who was being abused by her husband who had friends in the PD, and had threatened Kimbel with a gun.
      Life imitating television happening everywhere things used to be good.

        • Thank you, James. It is a pretty good episode. I felt sympathy for all…Kimble, the lady and the little boy who really needed a good guy in his life.
          Brian Keith played a bad guy really well, didn’t he? He could also be the hero in other shows, but he often played someone kind of living on the line and sometimes, crossing it.

  9. I wouldn’t trust this guy to command a troop of Brownies. Can you imagine these pipsqueak western leaders having to face down a hostile foreign power? They would urinate all over themselves in their mad rush to their bunkers. If Neville Chamberlain was resurrected and took leadership in a western country of today he wold be considered a badass.

        • thank you, tgusa. I had a friend some years ago who said, after I had detailed some of my near-death experiences, “that’s because you ‘re tough.” I felt it was a huge compliment. I take yours the same way.

          I was a very shy little girl when I was a Brownie, but I recall having to defend myself and others at times.

        • You are welcome and most deserving. Remind me never to get on your bad side. I have always been pretty quiet and shy and mostly minded my own business up to a point. In my scouting days we went on a backpacking trip above the tree line in the Sierras during a real hot summer. The kid behind me got to the point where he didn’t think he could go any further. I told him to give me his backpack. The scout leader behind him looked at me and shook his head, no.

          I think sometimes the shy person has a lot more strength than others give credit.

          I hope you all made it to the end of your hike. poor kid might have had physical issues…like not drinking enough water, or lost too much electrolytes. My son would never have made it as he had a heart defect. (since his operation, he takes his little family hiking in the mts in CO.)
          Other kids have health issues that the authority figure adult doesn’t appreciate.
          It was kind of you to offer, anyway..

        • And yes, water was a big issue. We were only allowed water breaks here and there. When we did have water breaks I found I really wasn’t that thirsty. I can go a long way without water but all I could think of between water breaks was water, cool clear water. Really weird.

        • I’ve had to go downhill sitting…not the best experience in the world, but better than falling trying to walk a steep decline. Glad y’all made it okay, and thanks for the comment about my son. You would get a chuckle out of seeing his five year old daughter going up and down narrow mountain trails; and she offers to help the adults.

          Humans always seem to want what they can’t have, like water when it’s not available or we aren’t supposed to have it for some reason…like an operation. Food after a time we wouldn’t normally eat if we are supposed to stop at midnight for a blood test or op the next day.

  11. Turdeau is using the Uvalde tragedy as a reason to ban handguns. In other words, he is restricting handgun ownership because of a shooting in a foreign country that involved the use of weapons that are already banned in Canada. This is just another example of the Looney Left Usurping more power.

  14. A city in Louisiana, is considering confiscating autos. No joke, due to the lawlessness there; the dangerous driving, while the cops stand around and don’t intervene. what comes next?

  15. I would hope that any Canadians would see what’s happening, and that had enough money, get as many rich people together, and leave. See how that MF likes tons of money leaving his country, and possible, all the most intelligent brains leaving too.
    It’s just a shame EVERY CANADIAN can’t leave, and leave Do-Do brain with an empty country to rule as a dictator.
    I wish there was a program like “Adopt-A-Family, where Canadians could stay with willing families or couples, in a good country, until they get on their feet, and can make it on their own. I’d be proud to do my part!
