New in PJ Media:
One thing that Old Joe Biden wants to make sure you know about the Supreme Court’s Dobbs v. Jackson decision is that it’s “extreme.” In his statement on the decision, he calls it “extreme” seven times. This is in line with the Democrats’ general strategy of portraying all opponents of their radical far-Left agenda as violent racist rednecks who pose an imminent threat to “our democracy,” by which they mean “Leftist hegemony.”
But who is really extreme here? What the Supreme Court did Friday is exactly what Senator Joe Biden himself voted for in 1982: overturning Roe and leaving the authority to legalize or outlaw abortion with the states. So which side has really moved to the extreme?
Serial liar Biden started off his Friday with yet another whopping lie: “Today is a — it’s not hyperbole to suggest a very solemn moment. Today, the Supreme Court of the United States expressly took away a constitutional right from the American people that it had already recognized. They didn’t limit it. They simply took it away. That’s never been done to a right so important to so many Americans. But they did it. And it’s a sad day for the Court and for the country.” In reality, no right was taken away, as the states are still quite free to keep abortion legal. Nor was abortion ever a “constitutional right,” as the Constitution doesn’t mention abortion at all, much less guarantee a right to it. Roe v. Wade was an interpretation of the Constitution, and a bad and poorly reasoned one, which is one principal reason why it was ultimately overturned.
Biden affirmed: “I believe Roe v. Wade was the correct decision as a matter of constitutional law, an application of the fundamental right to privacy and liberty in matters of family and personal autonomy.” But that wasn’t always true. In 1973, when Roe was first decided, Biden said that it went “too far.” In 1974, he said that a woman shouldn’t have the “sole right to say what should happen to her body.” As a pro-life position, this was flawed; it’s a staple of pro-abortion rhetoric that abortion involves a woman’s body alone, while pro-lifers point out that there is another, different body involved: that of the child who is the victim of abortion.
Nonetheless, this reasoning was enough to lead Biden to vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee in 1982 for a Constitutional amendment that would have allowed individual states to reject Roe v. Wade and outlaw abortion. Getting heat from his far-Left colleagues, Biden said apologetically, “I’m probably a victim, or a product, however you want to phrase it, of my background.” He claimed that this vote was “the single most difficult vote I’ve cast as a U.S. senator.”

Amazing he can remember that far back…
Infidel says
He can’t. We are!
James Lincoln says
I agree with Infidel, Andrew.
He can’t.
He could never pass a MoCA test – that’s why he never got one during his last official “government” physical.
The fraudulent Biden administration did not want to have to deal this…

Seconded.

I stopped looking a Joe as a moderate before the 2008 election. National Journal ranked senators from left to right based on their votes in the Senate. Obama was #1 and Biden was #3.

‘PRIVACY’ ??? Should murder be a ‘private’ matter? Surely not.
They use every euphemism to avoid the word ‘KILLING’.
Killing is the purpose of abortion. They kill a healthy baby in the womb.
mortimer says
Old Joe just FULLY contradicted the teachings of his church. WHY IS THE POPE SILENT?
PMK says
They’re both on the same side?

Jews and Christians believe the Sixth Commandment means what it says. Furthermore, each human soul is made in the image of God. It is not only sinful to kill, but blasphemous to kill an ‘image of God’.
Is Old Joe really all that Catholic if he can switch from supporting the official abortion teaching of the RCC because it is politically expedient?
Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone doesn’t think so.
CogitoErgoSum says
Just tell us, Joe, when does a human being become a human being entitled to full protection under the laws of the United States? If you think it’s not at conception and even if you don’t believe there is such a thing as a soul, at what point does the spark of humanity ignite and start burning in the human body? I say the spark happens at conception and scientists have seen the spark as it happens. See it for yourself:

If you still say a human being is not a human being from the moment of conception, just tell me, at what point DOES a human being become a human being and why you think so?
PMK says
I thought you didn’t like caps.
CogitoErgoSum says
I don’t recall saying that. Sometimes caps are appropriate for emphasis. You may be thinking of someone else.
CogitoErgoSum says
My memory is that somehistory is the one who told you that.
somehistory says
good memory. I don’t like them, because someone who I shall not here name, uses them endlessly and I’m just plain tired of it. 🙂 It is a form of shouting and is considered by many to be rude. I just don’t care for it. and as I said, am tired of it being pointed at moi.

Somehistory, my reply below was made before I read your post here. Glad my memory was not off, though, (nor was CES’s).

PMK, I believe it is Somehistory who does not like all caps–and then only in replies to other posters, because it is virtual shouting.
somehistory says
all is okay.

Thanks, Somehistory.
CogitoErgoSum says
But back to my question, do you have an opinion on when a human being becomes a human being?
gravenimage says
This is probably subjective–one could make a case for this being at conception. But fetuses certainly feel pain at 20 weeks (they will pull away from a pin prick) and likely earlier. And this kind of nerve development is obviously linked to cognitive development, as well.
somehistory says
there is a heart beat at six weeks. A heart beat is one thing doctors listen for to see if a person is alive or dead….and cops are taught to feel for a pulse…which indicates a heart beating.
there may be a heart beat sooner, but at six weeks, it’s strong enough to hear.

I believe it is when the two cells unite. this unity then makes other unions with either impossible. and since both cells were alive before uniting, they are still alive after and begin a new little person, even if the mom is not aware for a few weeks.
It is a miracle process.

One thing I wonder: has the Pope revised the church’s stance on abortion?
CogitoErgoSum says
If he has he hasn’t made it public …. which I think he’s required to do.
CogitoErgoSum says
But then again there may be some secret laws and rules that only certain people know exist ….. as with most governments.

Whether one favours abortion or not the inevitable result of it being illegal is that the well-to-do will travel to get one and those too poor to travel will resort to other methods — the return of the “wire coat hanger method” comes to mind.
Some States are planning to make (or have already made) it illegal to travel elsewhere (or to help someone travel elsewhere) to get an abortion. Should prove interesting.
Apparently there is talk from the SCOTUS to revisit permitting contraception. I guess life begins when a sperm and an egg simply exist but haven’t yet met.
People should simply learn to control themselves. Of course that’s never happened before in history in any meaningful way.
A Pandora’s Box has been opened at a very inconvenient time. In all fairness there probably never is a “convenient” time but this particularly bad timing.
CogitoErgoSum says
If a sperm is capable of fertilizing an egg and an egg is capable of being fertilized so as to create the “spark” that scientists have observed when sperm and egg meet, then I’m going to say, yes, they are both alive. My question is when do they turn into what we call a human being? A sperm swimming around is alive but is it human? I would not say that it is. However, I am convinced now more than ever that human life begins when sperm and egg unite and cell division begins. I would like those who think this is not the case to tell me what other point they would use to determine when human life begins and when a person’s body becomes that unique body of a person entitled to the same rights as everybody else living in this country.

What’s the abortion law in Canada? How long into your pregnancy are you allowed to have an abortion? Does it vary from province to province, or is it “one-size-fits-all”?
somehistory says
and how many males have had it performed on their unborn?
the small creature isn’t happy with the U.S. Court, and says women are free to travel there for the killing. He evidently wants as few Americans possible to be born.

somehistory.
You are reading too much into my comments.
I’m simply saying that a wholesale banning of abortion creates some inequities and social problems one may wish to avoid. Abortions will certainly continue — the barn door is wide open and the horse gone — and the costs will be great.
infidel.
I am not up to date on the details of the law on abortion in Canada other that that it is legal.
somehistory says
rarely, you are not the “small creature” to whom I was referring. not that you are one, but I was not referring to what you said, anyway. I was just commenting on what your not-so-true doe said about it.

Abortion in Canada is legal at all stages of pregnancy–including late-term abortion–for any reason. This is the law country-wide.
On the other hand, no facilities for late term abortion (after 23 weeks) exist outside Quebec, which obviously limits availability.

I really doubt that free travel in the US can be criminalized, even if it is to have a procedure performed that is illegal in their home state.
Infidel says
Yeah, I think pro-Life candidates who think that pregnant women can be prevented from leaving the state while pregnant for any reason is overreach. As for those who support it, be careful about it: you are giving the Left a weapon that can well be used against you. In fact, may probably already have been w/ Covid entry rules in various states
gravenimage says
I agree on both points, Infidel.

Many years ago, I read a personal account of a young man whose mom was a concert pianist. During the time she was pregnant with the baby who would become the writer of the article, she was practicing a certain piece of music she planned to play
After the child was born, and as soon as he was old enough, he got to the piano and played the piece his mom had practiced while he heard from inside.
Just when did he begin to hear her playing clearly enough to begin memorizing it?
old ‘joe’ is just going with the flow of depravity that has been set loose in this country. the flow of demonic evil is the same that has allowed so much from the mozlum world to go unchecked, and even, under-reported and under-condemned for what it is.
How can he and those like him care about the unborn lives sacrificed to ba’al or moloch, when they show they don’t care for the ones being sacrificed to the fake ‘god’ and the false ‘prophet’ of islam?
If they cared about the one group, they would also have to care about the other group.
Just as the little kids…some as young as a few months old…are being killed by thugs with guns in chicago and the likes of bobiden look the other way, only to focus on school shootings for the purpose of taking legal guns from the law-abiding, they focus on the “”””poor women””””” who have “lost”…something they never really had…and now have to go, maybe, to another State to have the baby killed.
These ghouls don’t give a bit for the lives of babies. They just want to keep the big bucks coming their way and deciding for everyone what we can and cannot do.
If they believed that the majority of Americans were against baby-killing and the misnamed planned…hood, they would be against it too. they now believe that the majority of Americans want women to have access to the genocidal centers, so they do too. It’s probably how they have always felt and the former speeches were just to get elected and re-elected.
