As I explained here, Sharma merely pointed out facts regarding Muhammad’s marriage to the child Aisha that are abundantly attested in Islamic tradition. No one at all dares repeat what Jindal said, and I can’t find it. But he was not speaking as an agent of the Indian government, and so this outrage is misplaced, but intentionally so: the goal is to intimidate all non-Muslim governments into clamping down on any and all statements that could be taken as remotely critical of Islam.

The anger has been growing since last week after the two spokespeople, Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal, made speculative remarks that were seen as insulting Islam’s Prophet Muhammad and his wife Aisha.
Modi’s party took no action against them until Sunday, when a sudden chorus of diplomatic outrage began with Qatar and Kuwait summoning their Indian ambassadors to protest. The BJP suspended Sharma and expelled Jindal and issued a rare statement saying it “strongly denounces insult of any religious personalities,” a move that was welcomed by Qatar and Kuwait.
Later, Saudi Arabia and Iran also lodged complaints with India, and the Jeddha-based Organization of Islamic Cooperation said the remarks came in a “context of intensifying hatred and abuse toward Islam in India and systematic practices against Muslims.”
India’s Foreign Ministry on Monday rejected the comments by the OIC as “unwarranted” and “narrow-minded.” On Sunday, India’s embassies in Qatar and Kuwait released a statement saying the views expressed about the Prophet Muhammad and Islam were not those of the Indian government and were made by “fringe elements.” The statement said that strong action had already been taken against those who made the derogatory remarks….
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said it expected a public apology from the Indian government, and Kuwait warned that if the comments go unpunished, India would see “an increase of extremism and hatred.” The Grand Mufti of Oman described the “obscene rudeness” of Modi’s party toward Islam as a form of “war.” Riyadh said the comments were insulting and called for “respect for beliefs and religions.” And Egypt’s Al-Azhar Mosque, the Sunni world’s foremost institution of religious learning, described the remarks as “real terrorism (that) can plunge the entire world into severe crises and deadly wars.”…
On Monday, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry summoned an Indian diplomat and conveyed Islamabad’s “strong condemnation,” a day after Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said the comments were “hurtful” and “India under Modi is trampling religious freedoms & persecuting Muslims.” India’s Foreign Ministry responded by calling Pakistan “a serial violator of minority rights” and said it should not engage “in alarmist propaganda and attempting to foment communal disharmony in India.”
“India accords the highest respect to all religions,” ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said.
Criticism also came from Kabul. The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan said the Indian government should not allow “such fanatics to insult … Islam and provoke the feelings of Muslims.”…

India should cancel all oil purchases from these countries, and buy its oil exclusively from Russia, and once the US gets to export oil again, the US. Also, right now in the context of a world food crisis, India should put muslim countries like Egypt at the bottom of their allocation, and prioritize non-muslim importers. A few days ago, after suspending its stoppage of wheat exports, India did export some to Egypt. Oh, and any oil India does get from Arab/muslim countries, it should make it barter w/ food, and not pay w/ any US$

Most of the ME countries are friendly and helpful to India, but a perceived insult to the Prophet, although no one knows for sure what exactly the insult was, gives an opportunity for holier-than-thou one-upmanship, with Sunni and Shia regimes vying to outdo each other in their show of orthodoxy. India also relies on these countries not just for oil, but for selling its products and services. It would be unproductive to go for knee jerk reactions. The best course would be to thoroughly investigate not just what was said but also how it was fanned and blown out of proportion by vested political interests, so that suitable action can be taken to prevent a recurrence.

Those Middle Eastern countries have shown their true colors. They could have ignored it and said that it’s an internal matter of India: particularly when they tolerate far worse treatment of islam/muslims from China. Yet they chose to butt in. The largest importers of India’s agricultural products are the US, China, Bangladesh, UAE, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Iran, Nepal and Malaysia. The other importing countries are Korea, Japan, Italy and the UK.
UAE and Saudi Arabia and Iran are among the largest customers for Indian agriculture. Will they boycott food?

I used to work in the semiconductor industry, and whenever there was a product shortage, products used to go into allocation. In other words, we picked and chose which customers to prioritize, based on various factors – ASPs, how strategic we considered a particular customer and so on
There is nothing stopping India from prioritizing which countries they want to ship to. They can give top priority to the countries least hostile to India – countries like Vietnam, Nepal, Korea, Japan and so on. (I’m surprised to see the US in that list: if anything, I’d have thought that India would be the one doing the food importing). All those muslim countries can buy their grain from the more islamophilic Russian Federation
