Just as Biden has said that skyrocketing gas prices are part of an “incredible transition.” He and his henchmen see an opportunity to force us into acquiescing to the Left’s dystopian vision of an authoritarian socialist green state.
“New York Times Makes the Case for More Inflation,” by Andrew Stiles, Washington Free Beacon, June 3, 2022:
…According to the author of a guest essay published in the New York Times, the president’s failure to get soaring prices under control might actually be a good thing. Lifestyle journalist Annaliese Griffin argues the rising cost of meat and other animal products is a positive development—for the environment.
“Inflation has the potential to drive welcome change for the planet if Americans think differently about the way they eat,” the journalist writes. “Climate change has motivated some to eat less resource-intensive meat and more vegetables, grains and legumes, but this movement has not reached the scale necessary to bring needed change—yet.”
But increasingly unaffordable food prices might just be the catalyst climate activists are seeking. Because at the moment one suspects the word “some” vastly overstates the actual number of Americans whom “climate change has motivated” to adjust their diets….
Westman says
I can imagine all the people being thankful for an opportunity to join the, “welcome change for the planet movement”, with the additional complementary tax bill from corrupt politicians – the ones who will eat marbled sirloin while you sop bread and porridge.
The Left is successfully competing with Islam for the title, “Motherlode Of Bad Ideas”

Yep. One comment on this article reads “If the Democrats want to run on a campaign of poverty-induced vegetarianism, well, go for it.”
wpm says
The democrats want the peons to give up simple things in life ,while they broker inside deals for their friends and love ones on investing in “green new deals companies” while making billions as the average persons salary buys less and less every day.I am sure the editors and the people running the NYT would give up their summer and or winter houses to reduce their carbon foot print If Annaliese Griffin wants to give up meat that is her business .I am starting to think they would like to just kill half the people who live on planet earth off to “save it’.
gravenimage says
Here’s a particularly unhinged comment on this NYT article:
Want to end profiteering inflation by every business? Stay Home Sunday June 12th! Everyone stay home. Don’t drive. Eat at home. Cancel every outstanding purchase: trips, renovation projects, etc you have that you can get a full refund from. Stop buying every single thing you don’t need to survive, and for those things you do need don’t buy brands such as P&G, on and on. Just say NO!
…
This is suggesting that you can’t do anything save barely survive–that you should not even be allowed to maintain your home or buy grooming, cleaning, and laundry products.
I’m a pretty frugal person, but I wouldn’t want to live this way, and certainly not force anyone else to live like this.

New York Times: ‘Inflation has the potential to drive welcome change for the planet’
………….
So not being able to travel and buy groceries are *good things*?
Just sick.
More:
“Inflation has the potential to drive welcome change for the planet if Americans think differently about the way they eat,” the journalist writes. “Climate change has motivated some to eat less resource-intensive meat and more vegetables, grains and legumes, but this movement has not reached the scale necessary to bring needed change—yet.”
………….
The idea that poverty is actually good for the environment–besides being nihilistically uncaring–has been disproven many times.
Then, people deciding to try “plant based” products because they have heard they are delicious and healthy is one thing–but you want people to make health choices because they are too poor to buy what they really want?
This doesn’t work, either. In fact, poor people in general tend to make *less* healthy food choices than do middle class or well off people. It doesn’t take a great deal of research to see that this is generally so.
Annaliese Griffin in her article cheers inflation in the early 1970s as well as meat and dairy shortages during WWII. She is also a big fan of increased governmental control of the food supply. Good grief…
I know how I can save some money in these difficult inflationary times…just cancel my subscription to the damned New York Times.

the un guys have said they are ‘taking food from the hungry to feed the starving.’
If enough people who are “hungry” are forced to give up enough of their meager food supplies to feed the “starving,” then soon, they too, will be starving.
The un didn’t say they would take food from those with an abundance of food to feed the starving. They won’t take food from pelosi, schumer, biden, or any of the others who intend to rule until they croak.
and these people have their own fuel stations and they’ll keep making sure the tanks stay full while the rest of the country goes on rations.
Thats’ the way it works when the wicked rule. What is a planet without people? Kill enough of the people off, and who will be around to wait on and serve the “rulers”?
gravenimage says
Not to mention that the UN should not have the right to take food away from anyone.
somehistory says
they don’t have any *right* to do it; they have just assumed authority because they have a lot of guns.
Scott says
Fuck Climate change and Global warming..It all bunch of bullshit.
JimJFox says
Of course, Scott! So much wisdom from such a tiny mind…
gravenimage says
Jim, which climate change do you consider accurate–catastrophic global cooling and a new ice age, or catastrophic global warning and desertification of the entire planet? We’ve been told both over the past few years, and Al Gore appeared to believe both at the same time.
libertyORdeath says
More inflation and a recession are the inevitable consequences of the pyramid scheme of fiat currency that we have all been forced into. There is a hostile takeover of our food supply, housing sector, and energy sector.
Keep a close eye on the midterm elections. There is no way that a majority of Americans will go for the degrowth agenda, but if they control the vote counting it doesn’t matter.
Wellington says
More idiocy under the disguise of some kind of compassion and wisdom. This is one of many, but certainly not only, hallmarks of Leftism, which is more of a menace, by far, than is Islam—and God knows, Islam is bad enough.
Jim Fox says
“Leftism, which is more of a menace, by far, than is Islam”
Hmm, of course it is. How can we stop the evil left beheading people, burning them alive, crucifying them, raping our children, chopping off hands & feet, stoning women to death…?
Any suggestions?
gravenimage says
Jim, Islam would not be much of a threat in the West were it not for suicidal immigration policies, most of which are being pushed by the West. Then, they are the main–albeit not the only–element whitewashing Islam and opposing any defense against it.

JimJFox says
True, pretty good analysis!
Pam Burgo says
I don’t eat phoney food. I don’t feed it to my family . I won’t go out to a restaurant and eat it.
gravenimage says
What is “phoney food”?
JimJFox says
McDonalds fan, obviously.
gravenimage says
Not me–I haven’t actually eaten at a McDonald’s for many years now, and as a vegan, there isn’t a whole lot I could order there.
But “phoney food” can mean many different things–highly processed food, fast food, food with additives, GMOs, plant based foods that can be used as meat or dairy analogs–and that’s just off the top of my head. It is unclear what this poster is referring to.
Nowhere did Pam Burgo say she is talking about McDonald’s–or anything else specific–which is why I asked the question in the first place.
Stan says
Our early ancestors were hunter/gathers. Eating grain did not come until much later in social survival and development. The human body is built to digest animal protein Far more effectively than grain foods. Many sources of grain cannot be digested as effectively as animal protein.
Additionally, there is no way enough vegetable protein can be grown to meet the needs of the existing population. So promoting a strictly vegetarian diet is fool hardly and would eventually lead to mass starvation.
Considering that the general gealth of the USA has decreased during the time that do called experts have promoted the grain dominate “food pyramid” one has to question if there isn’t a causal relationship.
gravenimage says
Additionally, there is no way enough vegetable protein can be grown to meet the needs of the existing population.
…………..
Actually, Stan, most soy is fed to livestock–over 77%. Just 7% of soy is used directly for human food products such as tofu, soy milk, edamame beans, and tempeh.
https://ourworldindata.org/soy#:~:text=More%20than%20three%2Dquarters%20(77,%2C%20edamame%20beans%2C%20and%20tempeh.
Now, this doesn’t mean that anyone should eat tofu who doesn’t want to–but facts actually are important.
Then, the most commonly eaten vegetable proteins are just rice and beans or other legumes.
OLD GUY says
If these lefty tree huggers really cared about climate change and reducing Americas impact on the climate they would CLOSE the BORDERS. People are the problem when it comes to pollution and impact on the environment. The twenty million illegal migrants entering America are not purchasing Electric Vehicles, and Energy Efficient Homes. Inflation and high GAS prices will reduce travel and jobs. It appears that the working class are just in the way of the elite driving their BMW and Flying to their favorite resorts and beaches around the country. The elite don’t care how much they polute they just want the rest of us to do without so they can.
Lorensacho says
It’s authoritarian to want to save the planet? It’s sick to gamble with the health of our planet because immature conservatives don’t want to be told what to do.
gravenimage says
The idea that those like Al Gore living in mega mansions are “saving the world” and should be allowed to dictate to people–backed up by force–is just grotesque.
It seems that Lorensacho agrees with Annaliese Griffin that inflation is a good thing–never mind that this likely means fewer people buying electric cars and “plant based” meat and dairy.
Really, this is more about lauding suffering than “saving the planet”. And what does the planet need to be saved *from*? Fifty years ago it was catastrophic global cooling, then global warming, then global cooling again–and now the vague “climate change”, because that seems to cover all bases…
JimJFox says
Well said.
gravenimage says
More from Annaliese Griffin, from an article in Quartz where she laments that “In the modern world, shopping is only occasionally about need. Even food shopping is about what we want to eat rather than simply what will keep us alive.”
Really, this is pretty grim. Now your yardstick shouldn’t be eating what you love or what is healthy, but purely what keeps humans alive? This should only be true if you are living through a famine or are a refugee.
somehistory says
In the concentration camps during hitler’s insane, demonic reign, some of the prisoners ate dirt so their stomach would have something to do. the griffin fool probably would have no problem with that. as long as she can eat what she likes.
gravenimage says
Yes, ugly stuff.
James Lincoln says
Agree, gravenimage.
And a large part of our economy is dependent upon consumer spending.
JimJFox says
Correct. Raising stock for food is hopelessly inefficient and methane from cattle (primarily) is more harmful than vehicle emissions, it is claimed.
Humans are omnivores, our biology is best suited to a mixed diet; too much meat isn’t good.
gravenimage says
Actually, James Lincoln was not talking about the inefficiency of raising livestock, nor was he pushing for less meat in the diet, nor talking about methane emissions.
If JimJFox wants to make such points himself, this is fine–but attributing them to someone else is dishonest.
James Lincoln says
JimJFox,
gravenimage is correct.
I was referring to consumer spending “in general”.
The United States economy – up to 70% – is dependent upon consumer spending (not investing) on a very wide variety of goods and services.

Thanks for that link, Somehistory. Yes, Biden is completely out of touch, and cares nothing for struggling Americans.
Walter Sieruk says
The New York Times newspaper reads ,somewhat , like it’s under the control or at least influence of Big Brother Biden.
As for creepy old socialist Joe and the economy, he not only in denial but even has the balderdash gall even say that “Inflation is America’s strength.”
For Big Brother Biden is just as much as falsehood speaker as the “Big Brother” in the modern classic by George Orwell who declared “War is peace” and “Love is hate” as well as “Freedom is slavery.”
Likewise Big Brother Biden who declared ” Inflation is strength.”
