But it hasn’t been. Asserting such is a lie. What has warped America’s social fabric, and many other American “fabrics,” has been the devolution of the Democratic Party into extreme Leftist policies and positions.
While I am barely pro-choice, I welcome the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Abortion is not a federal right. It is a state by state right, to be decided by elected state legislators by the thousands, not by a mere nine Supreme Court Justices. Think 10th Amendment here. The 9th Amendment too.

Either way abortions will be available. Those who are financially able will simply go to a nearby State where abortions are legal. Those who can’t afford to will find other methods — hopefully safer than the old “coat hanger” solution. My guess is that SCOTUS is deciding the issue on the basis of whether or not Roe v Wade was correct in law in the first place and not on the basis of morality or biblical references. It will not be a political or social decision although it will affect both heavily.
Abortions aside, what is much more important is the attack on SCOTUS. Everyone in a position of influence, from the President down, should be defending the independence and integrity of the Court. That isn’t happening unfortunately.

Dana Milbank has used 9/11 in ugly ways before, claiming in 2013 that saying anything critical of Obama was “tarnishing the memory of 9/11”. He has never said what he considered good about the horror of 9/11 to begin with.

Reversing Roe v. Wade will not take away any rights. Actually It will give rights concerning abortion back to each of the states and allow them to decide for themselves. Those who don’t like the laws of their state concerning abortion can just move to another state with different laws. Freedom of movement has been part of the American social fabric from the beginning. Those who don’t like that should just leave the United States altogether. (If you are white Ukraine and Russia could use more people these days. If you are black Liberia or Ghana or any one of the sub-Saharan countries might be nice. No slaves in the U.S. anymore. You are free to go.)

Americans generally never thought that abortion was a moral choice. There should be limits on abortion in the US the same as there are in most countries in the world which restrict it to 3 months. If a woman cannot make up her mind in three months, it is assumed she has made the choice to go ahead with the birth.

The right to refuse to transfer bodily/tissues to a third party. By what insane interpretation of the Constitution could a woman have a greater legal obligation to an embryo than she has toward her child? By what insane interpretation of the Constitution could an embryo have a greater right than anyone? She has as much of a legal obligation to transfer her tissues to an embryo as the result of contraceptive failure, as a right to lifer has to transfer his kidney, blood, bone marrow, etc. to a motorist he brings into a condition of biological dependency as a result of brake failure.
The right to defend oneself against physical pain.
Theft of services. Incubation is a service for which the State must contract and pay the contract price. What other service can the government require of an individual without proper compensation.
The shift in the burden of proof is itself an equal protection violation. The issue is not Does the woman have a right to an abortion? but “Does the embryo have a right to a woman’s body. She does not have to prove her right to abortion. The embryo has to prove its right to incubation.

I suppose it comes down to understanding the purpose of sexual intercourse between a male and female. Is the purpose human reproduction or is the purpose comfort and pleasure? I would say that the primary purpose is human reproduction so the embryo has to prove nothing except that it is alive. By coming into existence and NOT dying the embryo is fulfilling its purpose – which is the continuation of human life.

How can the Supremes decide on an issue which is not even mentioned in the Constitution? Their job is to interpret law, not make it. We don’t live in a judicial dictatorship. Repealing R v W is simply an act of humility.
We live in a very large and diverse country, so the wise thing may be for the state to say nothing about abortion and let people be free to make their own decisions. Enough with all the sanctimonious hysteria.

Not every right is listed in the Constitution. For instance: privacy.. It’s not mentioned at all in the Bill of Rights but it is necessary for free people. The Ninth Amendment says that just because a right is not specifically mentioned doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

Yes, and abortion is a private thing, but many legal scholars consider the decision overreach. I’m not a legal expert, but I’m not looking forward to all the time that the issue will take up in our state legislatures. The whole thing is a can of worms and the government should let it alone. As Senator Hayakawa once said, abortion is none of the government’s damn business.

Sadly the unborn child has no say in this abortion process and the law says yes the mother can end its life and the law provides for that. And tax dollars pay for the clinic.
Ok I’am a grown person who wants to end my life because “I” no longer can stand the pain of my cancer or whatever, yet it is Illegal for a Doctor or Clinic to put me to sleep peacefully. And it is MY decission to end life.

Children who must be involved in Court processes, have advocates who are to look for the child’s best interests, even above the parents. What is best for the child is the job of the advocate. The advocate is to find out what is best, present these to the Court and fight for the rights to be recognized.
The unborn who face execution have no such advocate. And the execution procedures would be considered “cruel and unusual” if applied to a serial killer, or anyone else, on death row.

Excellent summary. Long ago, I was once involved in an unplanned pregnancy. At that time I never considered having a child or family for various reasons. But I took responsibility and made a decision that changed my life. And again, at that time I did have other plans for my life.
