Russia threatened a dramatic escalation of its war in Ukraine Thursday when Russia’s Channel One featured a video depicting Russian missiles reaching Berlin, Paris, and London.
According to the UK’s Express, Channel One’s 60 Minutes program, one of the most popular TV shows in Russia, featured “the chairman of the nationalist Rodina party, Aleksey Zhuravlyov,” who “suggested Russia could launch a Sarmat missile attack on the UK.” This was not, however, Zhuravlyov’s eccentric view: “Producers then cut to a map of Kaliningrad and seemed to suggest that missiles could be launched from the Russian enclave between Poland, Lithuania and the Baltic Sea.”
Zhuravlyov declared: “One Sarmat [missile] and that’s it – the British Isles are no more.” The show’s cohost, Evgeny Popov, responded: “No one will survive in this war when you propose the strike with a Sarmat. Do you understand that no one will survive? No one on the planet.” Zhuravlyov, however, was undeterred, saying optimistically that “we’ll start with a blank slate,” and boasting that Russian missiles “can’t be intercepted. Their abilities are limited. They say they can shoot it down, we’ll see about that.”
The show’s other host, Popov’s wife Olga Skabeyeva, then added: “Sarmats are not in Kaliningrad yet. From Kaliningrad to Berlin is 106 seconds, from Kaliningrad to Paris is 200 seconds. You’re interested in London, 202 seconds to London.” Zhuravlyov responded happily: “They need to be shown this picture. ‘Guys, look at this picture — count the seconds, can you make it? Hello, it’s already here.’ That’s the way. Let them think about it. Get a stopwatch, count (to) 220 seconds. That’s how you talk to them, they don’t understand anything else.”
This latest round of nuclear threats came after James Stephen Heappey, Britain’s Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Armed Forces, said that Ukraine should strike inside Russia: “It is completely legitimate for Ukraine to be targeting in Russia’s depth in order to disrupt the logistics that if they weren’t disrupted would directly contribute to death and carnage on Ukrainian soil.” He also voiced support for other countries’ supplying Ukraine with weaponry: “There are lots of countries around the world that operate kit that they have imported from other countries; when those bits of kit are used we tend not to blame the country that manufactured it, you blame the country that fired it.”
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova wondered if NATO would consider the same actions on Russia’s part to be justified: “Do we understand correctly that for the sake of disrupting the logistics of military supplies, Russia can strike military targets on the territory of those NATO countries that supply arms to the Kyiv regime? After all, this directly leads to deaths and bloodshed on Ukrainian territory. As far as I understand, Britain is one of those countries.”

The way to avoid all that is do what Trump would do if he were in power now:
stop all military shipments to Ukraine.And tell NATO to do the same.
It is that simple. Soon China will invade TAIWAN, and though it is a foregone conclusion China will win, the US will enter into a war. It is now telling NATO to get ready to send soldiers to Asia.

You’ve got a point there Doomer, as there is no way Ukraine is ever going to win this war in spite of all the weapons we send them. Stopping military aid to Ukraine is in fact going to shorten the war and save lives.
We are sticking our noises into a war that has nothing whatsoever to do with us, and rubbing up a despot like Putin could easily trigger a nuclear war with the west.

Once again Doomer is claiming that China invading and taking over Taiwan is “antiwar”–just bizarre.
Then, I don’t think it was a coincidence that Russia did not invade Ukraine when a strong President like Trump was in office.
And John, Russia has made it clear that it doesn’t just plan on conquering Ukraine, but of liquidating the population there. The idea that Ukrainians bowing to this will save lives is I believe mistaken.

We can agree that Putin’s invasion of the Ukraine was indeed evil, but there are two sides to every story. According to many, (just after the fall of the Soviet Union) Reagan along with other western leaders made an agreement with Gorbachev that no ex-Soviet country would ever be allowed to join NATO. Whether such an agreement existed or not is irrelevant, NATO should not be allowing these ex-Soviet countries to join, as this is certain to antagonize Russia. But that’s exactly what they are doing, and this could well be the reason that Putin invaded the Ukraine as it’s border is only 250 miles from Moscow. NATO already has 3 ex-Soviet countries encroaching Russia’s border Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia, enough is enough as far as Russia is concerned.

I also stand by what I said in my first post, that Ukraine is never going to defeat Russia. And while we continue to supply Ukraine with weapons we are only going to prolong this war, and more and more lives are going to be lost on both sides.
This conflict has nothing to do with us we should stay out of it, because if we continue down the path we are on, this could escalate to world war three then millions of lives will be lost.

John, I don’t think that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine can be defended because some other nations previously subjected to the Soviet Iron Curtain had joined NATO.
Besides, Russia has given multiple reasons for the invasion of Ukraine, including claims that the Ukrainians are intrinsically Russian and so should not have been allowed to become independent, that Ukraine was supposedly set to invade *them*, that Ukraine has secretly already joined NATO, that neo-Nazis in Ukraine–of which there unfortunately are some–somehow present an existential threat to Russia (even though Russia itself actually has many more neo-Nazis), that it was to rescue Russian speakers (even though the Ukrainian president is himself a Russian speaker). There are probably others.
As for Russian calls for liquidation of many Ukrainians and their use as forced labor, you can find that in this disturbing Russian propaganda:

So this is pretty much like calling for Jews to surrender to the Nazis so that they will receive better treatment–that’s not going to happen, even if it was a good reason to surrender to aggression in the first place.

Somehow, after the way they’ve struggled in Ukraine, Russian threats seem to be more of sabre rattling. Most of their population is in their European part: taking out Moscow would be enough to totally cripple, if not kill them – they’re that centralized, despite being 30 years after communism ended

Yes, I think that is saber rattling because they have not so advanced weapons as they say but they try to pretend that they are the most advanced country concerning weapons.
Besides, Putin will be operated on and even if he chose Petrushov, it is not sure that Putin will survive. Russians have always been experts on poisoning, and killing people and made it look like “illness or some thug attack”
However the US need president Trump who could really stop all this

I remember saying Russia would invade and that one of its goals would be to wreck Ukraine. That was criticised as illogical.
Now we have a similar rhyming situation to the 1941 blockade of Japan which led to the “unprovoked” attack on Pearl Harbor.
The West has effectively placed an economic and travel blockade on Russia. Pelosi is making unknown promises in Ukraine while Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) is introducing a joint resolution that would “authorize the use of U.S. Armed Forces to defend Ukraine” should Russia use chemical, biological, and/or nuclear weapons. An additional $33 Billion has been authorized to spend on the proxy war and NATO countries are both arming and training Ukraine forces.
I see only two possibilities: The West helps Ukraine and Russia hammer out an agreement or the conflict expands to directly involve the West and NATO.
The West has a number of chickenhawks who think they can force Russia out of Ukraine and force Russian regime change. Somehow it is beyond their capacity to look 90 miles from Florida toward Cuba to see that there are humans who won’t or can’t overthrow governments in response to outside pressures.
Adam Kizinger is demanding a red line for triggering direct war with Russia yet we don’t know where Putin has drawn Russia’s red line. We can be certain that it exists.
We all know, unfortunately, that President Biden is incapable to wisely make the important decisions which will determine the US actions in Ukraine. That is being done by others, maybe a loose cannon among them.
I am predicting that the US or NATO will cross Russia’s red line.
I am, personally, making preparations to manage disruptions in critical supplies and utilities. We might experience the first war with a foreign power, in the homeland, since the Revolutionary War.
