In the Qur’an, a mysterious figure, known as Khidr in Islamic tradition, kills a boy in an apparently random and gratuitous attack. He then explains: “And as for the boy, his parents were believers, and we feared that he would overburden them by transgression and disbelief. So we intended that their Lord should substitute for them one better than him in purity and nearer to mercy.” (18:80-81)
And according to Islamic law, “retaliation is obligatory against anyone who kills a human being purely intentionally and without right.” However, “not subject to retaliation” is “a father or mother (or their fathers or mothers) for killing their offspring, or offspring’s offspring.” (Reliance of the Traveller o1.1-2).
Muslims commit 91 percent of honor killings worldwide. The Palestinian Authority gives pardons or suspended sentences for honor murders. Iraqi women have asked for tougher sentences for Islamic honor murderers, who get off lightly now. Syria in 2009 scrapped a law limiting the length of sentences for honor killings, but “the new law says a man can still benefit from extenuating circumstances in crimes of passion or honour ‘provided he serves a prison term of no less than two years in the case of killing.’” And in 2003 the Jordanian Parliament voted down on Islamic grounds a provision designed to stiffen penalties for honor killings. Al-Jazeera reported that “Islamists and conservatives said the laws violated religious traditions and would destroy families and values.” In Iran, according to the New York Times, the legal system “treats parents who murder their children with relative leniency, as the maximum sentence for the crime is only ten years.”
“Pak Woman Shot Dead By Brother For Choosing Dancing, Modelling As Career,” Press Trust of India, May 6, 2022:
In another suspected case of dishonour killing in Pakistan, a 21-year-old woman has allegedly been shot dead by her brother for pursuing dancing and modelling as a career in Punjab province.
Sidra, a native of Renala Khurd Okara, 130 km from provincial capital Lahore, was modelling for a local clothing brand and danced in theatres of Faisalabad city against the wishes of her family, according to police.
Sidra’s parents forced her to quit her profession, terming it “against family tradition” but Sidra insisted on continuing.
Police said Sidra had come home from Faisalabad to celebrate Eid with her family last week.
On Thursday, her parents and brother Hamza had an argument with her over the issue of decency in her profession and beat her for insisting to stick with dancing.
Later in the day Hamza opened fire on Sidra, killing her on the spot, officials said.
A murder case was registered against the suspect. Police claim to have arrested Hamza who confessed to the crime.
Police officer Fraz Hamid said Hamza got infuriated at Sidra when he saw her dance performance on his mobile phone forwarded to him by a relative.
He said Hamza told police that in a fit of rage he shot his sister dead….

I just heard that news about women having to cover up completely in Afghanistan on the radio news here in Australia this morning, somehistory, and I thought, 2022 and this unbelievable level of primitiveness is still around in islam. It really is like looking back thousands of years to complete knuckle draggers and their mentality. To have such backward, primitive behaviour still fouling up the human race is sickening. Same, of course, with this evil murder in this report. Pakistan seems to be a cesspit populated by evil, hardline Muslim knuckle draggers and some unfortunate non-Muslims who have the terrible fate of living in such a crap hole of a country.

I was not surprised to read it. It’s just awful, but worse, that so many young men, and some women, gave their lives to make it possible for the girls to go to school and the women to walk freely in the streets, clothed as they like, with or without a male.
Lives lost, legs and arms and eyes, and the emotional issues…and then, to see everything go right back like it was.

Certainly Islam is responsible for allowing persecution of non-compliant Muslims, yet the rage – literally the loss of all reasoning and constraint – seems to have an additional physiological factor not seen as much in India or the West.

It had on one of its pages a picture of a little girl sitting down on stoll right next to her kitten and under that photo a statement was printed that read “Islam is a religion that respects life, all life.”
