All over Moscow, there are still statues of Lenin. A few came down upon the fall of the Soviet Union, but most stayed right where they were. Most Americans who have been aware of this ascribed it to a readiness on the part of contemporary Russia to accept its past, rather than reject and attempt to remake it à la the Antifa/Black Lives Matter statue destroyers in the United States. But a recent incident in Ukraine suggests that there could be much more to it.
CNN reported Friday that “video has emerged from the neighboring region of Kherson — also under Russian occupation — of a statue of former Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin being re-erected in the town of Nova Kakhovka.” The video “captures the statue of the Russian revolutionary and first leader of the Soviet Union being carried flat on a truck through the city. A later photo shows the statue being winched onto a plinth in front of the city council building.”
Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister, Mykhailo Fedorov, observed: “While Ukraine is the first in the world to introduce e-passports, ‘orcs,’” that is, Russian forces, “are restoring Lenin’s monument in temporarily occupied Nova Kakhovka.”
The Soviet regime was particularly hated in Ukraine, as it was responsible for the Holodomor, the great famine of 1932 and 1933 in which around five million people died. When the Soviet Union fell, statues of Lenin came down all over Ukraine, more frequently than they were toppled in Russia. But all that was thirty years ago; why would the Russians go out of their way to restore one of them in Ukraine now?
There are several key reasons. One is that while Russia is not a full-fledged Marxist-Leninist state, it never completely repudiated its Soviet period. Vladimir Putin told the Russian people in his 2005 state of the nation address: “First and foremost it is worth acknowledging that the demise of the Soviet Union was the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century. As for the Russian people, it became a genuine tragedy. Tens of millions of our fellow citizens and countrymen found themselves beyond the fringes of Russian territory. The epidemic of collapse has spilled over to Russia itself.”
Among those “fellow citizens” who “found themselves beyond the fringes of Russian territory” were the Ukrainians, who established an independent state, as did the other former Soviet republics. That was the “geopolitical catastrophe” to which Putin was referring, and he appears determined to rectify it. That’s why Lenin has reappeared in Nova Kakhovka. The restoration of the Lenin statue is intended to signify the return of the Russian power that imposed Communism on the Ukrainians and is now attempting to bring Ukraine back into the Russian orbit.

This is disappointing. If Russia wants to impose its symbols, they should put up symbols of Tsar Peter the Great, Tsarina Katherine the Great or other leaders from the Romanov era
But I do get one point in Putin’s argument. The break-up of the Soviet Union – great as it was in terms of inflicting a death blow to world communism, was a tragedy for different ethnic groups who suddenly found themselves in foreign countries. That’s why over the last 30 years, Russkies have been returning to Russia, Ukrainians in other republics to Ukraine, Uzbeks to Uzbekistan, Kazakhs to Kazakhstan and so on. That is a major upheaval in the lives of many people. Imagine if a huge percentage of this country’s population had to relocate to somewhere like Canada or Mexico or somewhere else. That’s the impact
There is another tragedy about the Soviet break-up: the creation of 6 new muslim countries. Does anyone here think that Azerbaijan would have invaded Armenia had both still been a part of Russia? One of the great things that the Tsars did – namely Nikolai I and Alexandr II – was to overrun Turkistan, which had been the source of jihad campaigns throughout Asia from Samanid times right up to the Mughals. Under both the Romanovs and the Soviets, islam was curbed in that region, and a lot of its power was dissipated: it was left to the Mughals and the Ottomans to carry on the jihad. But once the Soviet Union came apart, we now have 6 muslim republics, 4 of which are now allies of Turkey in the Turkic Council

uncovered evidence that Hitler’s paternal grandfather was a Jewish man living in Graz, Austria.Frank’s claims were eventually published in 1953, as part of his memoirs, after he had been executed for committing war crimes.
Frank said he uncovered evidence that Hitler’s grandfather lived in the same house where Hitler’s grandmother, Maria Anna Schicklgruber, lived.
Little is known about Schicklgruber until she turned 42. She eventually gave birth to her son, Alois Hitler in 1837, and refused to divulge the details of his father. The priest eventually baptized him Alois Schicklgruber and entered “illegitimate” on the baptismal register.

Doomer’s claims are pretty implausible. Then, his claim that this story was only covered by CNN is entirely false, In fact, The Guardian and the Independent have also reported this.
More important, though, is that *Pravda* also reports this:

This was also reported on Telegram, which Doomer has lauded in the past. Has he changed his mind?
Then, his claiming that Jewish President Zelenskyy is a Fascist because Hitler was also Jewish is utterly bizarre.
His implication that most Jews are for the Holocaust is both grotesque and *utterly false*. Citations, please.
Then, the idea that Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov was actually condemning Karl Marx makes no sense, either–he was a high-ranking figure in the Soviet Union for decades, including as a diplomat in Sri Lanka and as a senior adviser to the Soviet mission to the United Nations in New York City. Had he had any real problems with Communism, he had plenty of chances to defect.
Then, this tripe about Hitler being Jewish is an old canard. In fact, it was a favorite of the Soviets, because they hated Jews almost as much as the Nazis did:

There is a great deal of antisemitism in Russia to this day. Israel finds this very alarming.
Then, Doomer assuming that Hitler having black hair proves that he is Jewish is truly strange. It is fairly common in Austria and Germany, in fact. Then, if having black hair was proof of being Jewish (never mind that many Ashkenazi Jews do *not* have black hair) then why wasn’t Hitler identified as Jewish during his rise as Fuhrer? This is just grotesque.
