Gov. DeSantis Mandates Teaching About Crimes of Communism

There are a lot of talkers, but Gov. Ron DeSantis is providing a master class in how to actually fight the Left, not just talk about it.

It’s not enough to just try to push critical race theory and gender grooming out of schools. The bigger question is what replaces it. It’s not enough to drive out the bad, you have to replace it with the good. And you have to push back against the Left, instead of getting bogged down on the defensive about trying to keep their pet topics and agendas out of classrooms.

Gov. DeSantis clearly understands that.

Public school teachers in Florida will soon be required to dedicate at least 45 minutes of instruction on “Victims of Communism Day” to teach students about communist leaders around the world and how people suffered under those regimes.

Speaking at Miami’s Freedom Tower before a crowd of local lawmakers and supporters, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed House Bill 395, which designates Nov. 7 as the state’s official “Victims of Communism Day,” making Florida one of a handful of states to adopt the designation.

Lefties are predictably falling into the trap of denouncing the move which just makes DeSantis’ point for him about their Communist and socialist sympathies.

The bill, which DeSantis signed along with two street designations in honor of Cuban exiles, would require the instruction to begin in the 2023-2024 school year. It would require teaching of Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong and Fidel Castro, as well as “poverty, starvation, migration, systemic lethal violence, and suppression of speech” endured under those regimes.

“That body count of Mao is something that everybody needs to understand because it is a direct result of this communist ideology,” DeSantis said, noting that tens of millions of people died in China under his rule. “I know we don’t need legislation here to do this but I think it’s our responsibility to make sure people know about the atrocities committed by people like Fidel Castro and even more recently people like Nicolas Maduro.”

That comes as the DSA is holding a lovefest with Maduro.

Vice is already fuming that, “Florida teachers can’t say gay, but they are required to teach about the “victims of communism.”

“Acknowledging that queer people exist and have human relationships? Bad. Nuanced conversations about America and race in school and the workplace? Also bad. Nearly hour-long nakedly political lessons on the “victims of communism”? Good—and mandatory, if you’re a public school in Florida.”

This is what actually going on the offensive looks like.

  1. I like the Senator Rick Scott’s new proposal would declare socialism a hostile alien ideology which will be confronted head-on! Wish he’d add islam to that as well

    • You are quite right Infidel. Islam is exactly as bad as communism and socialism and even worse because the muslims are more and more. If we don´t stop them they will annihilate the whole world

    • The Democratic Party is a hostile alien ideology which hates democracy – the informed consent of the governed. They hate progress when they claim progressivism and they hate liberty when they claim liberalism.

  2. Dr. Rudolph Rummel (_Death by Government_) calculated roughly 169,000,000 deaths by government in the 20th century alone, and revised the number upwards before he died. A very good chunk of that number was from the Communist or Communist-sympathizing regimes. Hence, I cheer Gov. DeSantis’ effort.

    Dr. Rummel was a strong advocate of the Democratic Peace theory (an idea that’s been around since Immanuel Kent’s _Perpetual Peace_, his critique of war as the Sport of Kings, and one in which Uncle Kepha would like to believe but can’t quite believe), and it is clear he was horrified and disgusted by the totalitarian experiments of the last century.

  3. Good for DeSantis. Perhaps he will also show what islam is doing. The State has an over-abundance of mozlums and they have gotten high positions in law enforcement in some counties.

    Even in Florida, not all of the “reporters” are in agreement with him. The Gainesville Sun has at least one guy who is very critical, enough so that he is willing to lie about the governor.

      • When he was running for governor, there were a lot of lies told about him and the guy who ran against him was pure creep.

        The governor has a lot on his plate and probably targets on his back. He is one of the few politicians I have prayed for by name.

      • He was once a Gitmo prison guard, so probably is not as ignorant about muslims as many others. What he knows about islam is anyone’s guess

          I doubt he is an expert about Islam, but he has said some very solid things opposing Jihad terror.

It’s thus appropriate time to also mention the subject of Communist nation of China an appropriate time It’s important to define the concept of Communism .Otherwise known as Marxism. There the pipe-dream of a pure Marxist society in the philosophical political economic fantasy that no one is ever really in need and everyone “Works according to his abilities and receives according to his needs”

    In contrast, the is the reality of Communism which is that Marxism is a philosophy that no intelligent person can actually, truthfully accept is not only unrealistic and unnatural but also a joke and an excuse to set up and prop-up tyranny. For evil is always looking for an excuse. Marxism is just the excuse need to set up brutal regimes. Such as that of that Communist tyrannical and oppressive of Red China

Most historians agree that Karl Marx had good intentions when he labored so many hours writing his books .Such as the COMMUNIST MANIFESTO along with his long volumes which are entitled THE CAPITAL. Those volumes and his other written works were intended to remedy the terrible social conditions of the oppressed and exploited working class.

    The reality was the only further tyrannical oppression and cruel exploitation came upon humankind as a result of his error filled philosophical economic political thesis.

    First, this awful disaster is what may be called “The law of unintended consequences.”

    Second, as already mentioned above Karl Marx had “good intentions.” So this serves a proof that the old saying must actually be true. Which is that “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”

Karl Marx with his COMMUNIST MANIFESTO an long with his three volume THE CAPITAL in which he explained his economic political/philosophical scheme for a “classless and stateless society “ in which “Everyone works according his ability and receives according to his needs.’’ has many times over by refuted and discredited by genuine economists, sociologists and historians.

    These scholars have thoroughly exposes the many economic fallacies and flaws of Marxism way before the collapse of Communism in Russia and the Eastern bloc nations in 1992. Therefore even the recent history of the early 1990’s disproves Marxism as extremely erroneous. So it’s Adam Smith with his THE WEALTH OF NATIONS that is valid and in contrast Karl Marx with his written nonsensical a full of folly and invalid.

    So it’s highly unlikely that Communist rulers [dictators] really believe in the obvious flawed economic fallacies of Karl Marx. Nevertheless, they all still need to publicly stand firm on the teachings, principles and precepts of Communism as laid down in the many writing of Marx. This is because evil is always looking for an excuse. Therefore, Marxism is the excuse to set up and up hold tyrannical red regimes. As if those Communist dictators actually believe that in the future a “pure perfect Communist society “ will come from their tyranny . As in the saying “Being cruel, brutal and deadly for the greater good” What nonsense!

    Thus to uphold the ideals of Marxism, Communist tyrants as Kim Jong Un of North Korea cruelly persecute Christians. For Christians believe in the Bible and Marxism is so very weak and fragile in its nature and because it lacks sound logic and rational arguments based on reason to uphold it , the whole Marxist system collapse down to the ground In the light in information of the Bible. Since Communists don’t have a firm foot based on reality and reason to base Marxism on in which is the foundation for the heinous rule. They resort to extremely harsh severe, malicious and murderous persecution against Christians and burn their Bibles.

    • Even liberals, gravenimage, as far back as the 1950’s, sneered at anti-Communism. An entire industry was created by the 1960’s of anti anti-Communism—and which only helped to extend the life of the USSR (which Putin, effectively, wants to revive—but I digress) and which foul state President Reagan helped to end sooner rather than later. This is why Alexander Bessmertnykh, Gorbachev’s Foreign Minister, stated, and I quote, “Ronald Reagan’s defense build-up and Strategic Defense Initiative accelerated the demise of the Soviet Union.” I would add here that Senator Joe Biden opposed all of what Reagan did in this area. Yeah, if any American person has been on the wrong side of history and truth more than the doofus Biden, and to this very day, I’m not sure who that person is.

      Just imagine, as I have asked many others, if the Communist sympathizers of the 1940’s and 1950’s in Hollywood (e.g., Dalton Trumbo) had been Nazi sympathizers instead. Think they would have elicited ad nauseam sympathy as Trumbo has, and who was a member of the American Communist Party at one point and said that Truman, not Stalin, was responsible for the Cold War?

      Double standard on display again. Far Leftism gets a pass. Far Rightism doesn’t. But neither should and this is where this profound and deep hypocrisy resides to this day.

      One last point: Old fashion liberalism was patriotic and had its head on straight respecting where true evil lay, but old fashion liberalism had within its collective soul an antipathy to conservatism (which is the true inheritor of what the Founding Fathers established—real freedom and which required limited government) and a kind of mindless opposition to less government. The transformation of old fashion liberalism into modern liberalism, i.e., Leftism, is the inevitable result of the liberalism of old. Yes, there is a connection between FDR’s New Deal (which actually prolonged the Depression but I digress) and Joe Biden, Merrick Garland, even BLM and Antifa. The thread is there.

      • As Ann Coulter once pointed out, Joe McCarthy was right much of the time in the 50s when he’d raise the issue of Communists everywhere in society. If only he was here today

    It should be extended to MBA classes so that future business leaders will think twice before exporting industry and know-how to a hostile geopolitical opponent like China. Nothing wrong with a little less profit for the sake of national and economic security.
