“An appearance of a conflict of interest.”
No kidding, really?
The corruption is so deep and endemic in Washington, you need wings to stay above it.
“Acting NIH Director Admits Appearance of Conflict of Interest in Secret Royalty Payments to Fauci, Scientists,” by Mark Tapscott, Epoch Times, May 11, 2022:
Undisclosed royalty payments estimated at $350 million from pharmaceutical and other firms to Dr. Anthony Fauci and hundreds of National Institutes of Health (NIH) scientists do present “an appearance of a conflict of interest,” according to the agency’s acting director.
Dr. Lawrence Tabak, who took over as NIH director following the December 2021 resignation of the agency’s long-time leader, Dr. Francis Collins, told a House Appropriations Committee subcommittee that federal law allows the royalty payments, but he conceded that they don’t look ethical.
“Right now, I think the NIH has a credibility problem and this only feeds into this, and I’m only just learning about this,” Rep. John Moolenaar (R-Mich.) told Tabak. “People in my district say, ‘Well, so-and-so has a financial interest,’ or they don’t like ivermectin because they aren’t benefitting from that royalty.
“You may have very sound scientific reasons for recommending a medicine or not, but the idea that people get a financial benefit from certain research that’s been done and grants that were awarded, that is, to me, the height of the appearance of a conflict of interest.”
In response, Tabak said NIH doesn’t endorse particular medicines.
“We support the science that validates whether an invention is or is not efficacious, we don’t say this is good or this is bad. … I certainly can understand that it might seem as a conflict of interest,” he said….
Moolenaar’s reference to Fauci was in regard to him telling The Associated Press in a 2005 article that first brought the NIH royalties issues into the headlines that he had donated his royalties to charity.
But the issue faded from the headlines after 2005, and it’s only now getting renewed attention as a result of revelations first reported on May 9 by The Epoch Times that documents obtained in a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit brought by a nonprofit government watchdog show an estimated $350 million in undisclosed royalty payments from pharmaceutical and other private firms to top NIH executives, as well as to hundreds of the agency’s health scientists and researchers….

It seems the “feds” always give themselves freedom to do things the regular citizen is not allowed.
they can lie in Congress…without anything happening they can buy and sell stocks using inside info, and that’s hunky dory; they can get donations to keep on making laws for the rest of us to follow and they get extras funds when they make things work out for the companies that keep them in office.
It may be “legal,” but it is not ethical. It is not honest. It stinks. fauci should have to use that money to hire lawyers to defend him against the charges that should be brought against him for all of the deaths he has caused.

They may be getting away with it, but it is definitely insider trading – which is always illegal.

Just more evidence of how rotten the US federal government has become.
It’s base, corrupt and a far cry from what the Founding Fathers instituted and intended. Fauci himself comes to mind as just one of many malignant types who have sullied America at its best. Anyone still admiring Fauci, who has done so much harm to America, is either a fool or something worse. Hey, don’t Fauci-up America.

A year ago according to her death certificate, my beloved wife passed away due to septic shock from Covid-19. I obtained her medical records which stated that she was treated on day one in the ICU with Remdesivir per CDC guidelines which is toxic and causes kidney failure. Why not IVM or HCQ? That’s because Remdesivir costs $3,200 per treatment versus $10. for the others. My wife (and thousands of others) was poisoned, effectively murdered, while Fauci and his cabal earned substantial royalties.
Nothing will bring any of them back, but I won’t rest until these evil people including Bill Gates as well as the ChiComs, the WEF, big Pharma execs and others are exposed for their crimes against humanity and sent to prison.

I’m so very sorry you lost your wife. I empathize with your anger, although I can’t say I know how you fee.
The horror stories of so many being separated from their family members and then murdered while the “doctors,” “nurses,” and “hospitals” made money off the huge pretense of protecting their health.
fauci knew beforehand about the toxic life-taking mixture he told the hospitals to use because he had sent it to africa years ago to be given to those with ebola and it killed …and did not help…any patients to whom it was given. The report he received from the doctors there told him it was a complete failure.
He has sown and he will reap. As will gates, collins and others.

Ever since there was money those charged with wrongdoing have followed one simple statement as their first approach to solving the crimes, “Follow the money.” That has not changed. Where there is big money there are big crimes.
