Presented practically without comment.
Monday was an emotional day at Twitter — even for its executives.
Shortly after billionaire Elon Musk bought the powerful social media platform, top Twitter lawyer Vijaya Gadde called a virtual meeting with the policy and legal teams she oversees to discuss what the new ownership could mean for them.
Gadde cried during the meeting as she expressed concerns about how the company could change, according to three people familiar with the meeting.
Politico ran an article touting the “most powerful tech executive you never heard of” two years ago. Considering this article also comes from Politico, it’s a good bet that it’s being pushed by Gadde or her allies.
Is Twitter Going Full Resistance? Here’s the Woman Driving the Change: The war between conservatives and Twitter is heating up, in part because of Vijaya Gadde’s unheralded influence on the iconic social-media company..- Politico
Gadde was a lead architect of the policy approach that led Twitter to clamp down on everyone from everyday harassers to the Proud Boys to President Donald Trump, and she’s been out front in defending it, arguing that the shift makes sense as corporate strategy…
She’s pushed for technical changes that allow the company to try sidestepping blunt-force bans and blocks, like attaching warning labels to offensive tweets and limiting retweets to stop the spread of bad information….
When it came to rethinking the free-for-all approach, Dorsey had a ready ally in Gadde. Six months earlier, she’d argued in the pages of the Washington Post that Twitter had to stop sacrificing the collective safety of the service on the altar of the individual’s freedom to tweet…
So you can see why Gadde is upset.
In some ways, Gadde has been preparing for that kind of faceoff her whole life. Early on, says Gadde, she realized there were some ugly things about the world. Born in India and moving to Beaumont, Texas, when she was 2 years old, she recalls learning later that her out-of-work chemical-engineer father was advised by a boss to get permission from a local Ku Klux Klan leader to go door to door collecting insurance premiums.
That would have been the late seventies. Are we supposed to believe there was an omnipotent Klan in Texas in 1977?
Who fact checks the censors? No one dares.

Another, redundant, signal that if we [ the stricken USofA ] will disappear if immigration is not curtailed.
Countries are made by citizens.

This lady has already damaged the republic by her biased views, and by orchestrating banning of President Trump’s account. I hope she goes to jail for conspiracy.
patricia k campbell says
There’s a huge difference between immigration and invasion. There is no country without closed borders. This is precisely what the Deep State (minion of the NWO) has intentionally done to our country.
Hindu American says
Qualified hard-working immigrants who believe(d) in the constitution made this Republic what it is today. By calling for a ban on immigrants so that “you do not disappear” you have seemingly shown your bias toward anyone who does not “agree” with you.
By the way, I employ over 250 Americans. How about you, Sir?
Pierre Delecto says
Congratulations on your success.

Infidel says
While I too am a naturalized citizen, I agree w/ Pierre that there needs to be limits. As Andrew Wilkow said, you cannot have too many people from there coming here without here becoming there!
Also, the idea that someone from any other country – even the country I was from – should come here and try to change it in a dystopian way that she has – should be resisted fully. To date, I have nothing but contempt for all these Indian-American CEOs that Indians seem so proud of – Pichai, Nadella, Agrawal (even though in India, a lot of them are getting exactly that same treatment from social media). And this woman deserves a bullet through her forehead for the damage she has done to this country
We need to have limits on immigration – not just illegal but legal as well, and we need to make sure that people wanting to be naturalized are actually thoroughly vetted during their immigration interview. The questions I was asked when I was interviewed were jokes, and explain fully how sociopaths like Ms Gadde ended up w/ citizenship (assuming that she’s not still a green card holder)
Hindu American says
Pierre is calling for “curtailment”, not setting limits. According to him, you and I shouldn’t belong here because “we [ the stricken USofA ] will disappear if immigration is not curtailed”. I take strong exception to his biases.
somehistory says
If all “illegal” immigration was stopped cold, dead in its tracks, some of the many problems would go away. Illegal is a breaking of the laws. No one should be allowed to break the laws set up to protect the citizens.
Legal immigration should be for those who want to be a positive…not those who wish to turn the country into “their” country. If their country is so great, they should stay home.
and, I have noticed that the people like her always had wonderful parents who had such high education and excellent jobs…but if that is true, why come here?
Infidel says
HA, ‘curtailment’ is setting limits. Although for cases like the people I mentioned, deportation would be justified as well. To Pakistan, not India
Immigrants who come here to become Americans are one thing. Those who come here to make this country like theirs are another. Agrawal, Gadde, Pichai, Nadella and others fall in the latter category

What enlightened views. If inly they made some sense.
Just a tad right of Attila the Hun.
Infidel says
Rarely, the US doesn’t have a problem of under-population the way Canada has. So keep your unlimited immigration to yourself. You have a secessionist movement in Quebec b’cos of French, but in a generation, don’t be surprised if Canada morphs into Khalistan, the way you’re going. At which point, Punjabi, rather than English or French, will end up being your first language
James Lincoln says
Rarely,
What do you believe should be the proper immigration policy / practices for the United States?

JL
I have no firm grip on what the US immigration laws should. Basically I would simply oppose illegal immigration. BUT when the rhetoric moves on to deciding whether a group will or will not “properly” integrate themselves it gets a little ridiculous.
People will associate with people they feel comfortable with and it usually takes a generation or two to spread out, especially where their native language is not English. In many cases first generation immigrants don’t even bother to learn English. They are hardly going to apply for membership in the local Shriner’s group.

Thank you for your reply.

Surely not wanting to be Islamized is not ridiculous.

The left loves making up stories about the “influence” of Klans men running big companies in red states over the last 40 years. Like her father needed to get permission from the Klan to sell insurance door to door in the late 1970s in Texas? Now Elon Musk is label a racist because he wants to make tweeters guideline for posting open for the public to see. Elon Musk will still have guidelines he will just apply them equally to all posters regardless of their political opinions .I wonder if she is the one who OK Trump,s stolen tax returns could be posted ,but Hunters lap top that was gotten thru legal means was not allowed to stay posted? She could get a job selling insurance door to door after she is fired by Musk it is still a free country that employers can fire employees for not following company policies.
wpm says
Tell her she is free to start her own tweeter ,that is what the left has been saying for the last 4 years. Tell her her the boss sets policy because he owns the company , it is a platform not a publisher if content meets the guidelines set by not being illegal “threats of violence ect” it can stay posted.
CogitoErgoSum says
WPM, yes, she could move to Russia and help Putin set up his own version of Twitter there.
Infidel says
Yeah, everytime we complained about our First Amendment rights being taken away, we were told to start our own social media companies – and some did! – like Gettr, Gab, Parler and Rumble. Now that Twitter is changing, Gulag Parag and Gadde can do the same – leave Twitter and start up their own company, and cater exclusively to the Left. In fact, these two can throw parties for the likes of Indian-American communists, like Pramila Jayapal, Kshama Sawant, Meena Harris, Ro Khanna and so on, and even invite the likes of Omar and Tlaib to show how anti-islamophobic they are

USCIRF is an issue. During Trump, it was staffed by washed up ex-leaders of the Christian Coalition, and right now, it’s led by a muslim. That’s why that department’s members have been banned from India
As for Indo-US relations, they were fine under Trump, where India was a Quad ally. It’s under Biden that aurats like Ilhan Omar are being allowed to write US foreign policy, and when that happens, there is no way the 2 countries can be on the same page
gravenimage says
Devasur, you are mistaken if you think that Russia is freer than is the US, for all her current problems.

Twitter is staffed 99% with rabid partisan Leftists. They will make their mission to sabotage and undermine Musk’s objectives with the company.
Elon needs to fire the entire lot, close the San Francisco HQ, move it to Texas, and re-staff the entire company with sane reasonable Texans.
wpm says
I agree another industry moving from the most anti-business most woke state in the country.
Infidel says
Yeah, I saw a video from Ben Shapiro yesterday suggesting that he fire every one of them. I agree w/ you that he should move it out of SF. Rather than Texas, I’d like to see him move it to a redder state, such as Oklahoma or Wyoming. Or maybe Idaho, where a lot of Californians seem to have moved, w/o turning that state blue

Platforms such as Twitter have the potential to cause great harm by allowing obvious false information such as weird conspiracy theories (and worse) to be spread. Therefore there must be some censorship of, at least, the most obviously incorrect and inflammatory material — regardless of political viewpoint.
The obvious solution would be to make Twitter (and the others) legally responsible for their content and any harm that content may cause much the same way as newspapers and other printed media can be held liable. Otherwise whoever owns the platform gets to call the content safe from any accountability. What if a Hitler or Stalin owned Twitter? What if Putin did? Elon Musk may be an upstanding guy but that wasn’t a qualification for purchasing Twitter.
Infidel says
In short, you are asking that Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act be repealed for Twitter: this was the law that made social media companies exempt from laws under which they could be sued for content that they transmitted in the same way that print and video media could be sued. For instance, when CNN, NBC and others made claims about Nick Sandman, they got sued and ultimately settled out of court. Right now, under Section 230, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube can’t be sued, but under your proposal, Section 230 would no longer apply to Twitter
It’s interesting how you seem to be okay w/ these companies being protected under Section 230 when they are busy censoring people (thereby acting exactly like a publisher) but are against them being protected when they behave exactly like the baby bells were (under which concept that law was written)
If you wanna end false information from being peddled, you’d need to get the likes of CNN, NBC, CNBC, MSNBC, PBS, NPR, ABC, CBS and several other ‘news’ organizations banned. Which would fly in the face of the First Amendment. Tell you what: why don’t you try and get CBC banned in your country first, and then put the onus on Twitter to crack down on fake news?
Rarely says
Twitter spreads garbage outside the territorial limits of the USA.
Protecting them from responsibility is not only insane but suicidal insane.
What solution do you suggest?
Rarely says
Better yet: What are you talking about?
Infidel says
Other countries whose laws are at odds w/ Twitter are at liberty to block Twitter, and many in fact do! Never saw a website where you got an error that this content is not available in your country?
Solution to one speech that you do not like is other speech that you do like. That’s the whole idea behind the First Amendment. I have no idea of how things are north of the border, but you don’t get to dictate how an American citizen (Musk) gets to control an American company (Twitter). Feel free to block Twitter and start another social media company available only in Canada. Here, conservatives did respond to Twitter censorship by starting companies like Gab, Getter and Rumble
Also, what was I talking about? Google ‘Communications Decency Act’ and read up on it, particularly Section 230
gravenimage says
Rarely, a social media platform is not necessarily like a newspaper unless the owners want it to be. It can be more like a street corner.
In that case, anything save calls for violence would be allowed.

This broad Gadde is uglier in the inside than she is on the outside. I hope she’s out of her job: then she can contact her local San Francisco KKK agent to do cold calling selling insurance
somehistory says
Ho ho ho. I lived in Texas during the seventies. She’s a liar. Now, if her father was going door-to-door selling insurance, or anything else, he might have been told he needed a permit or he might have been told by a rancher that he did not have permission to come onto his property.
so many like this fool use lies…lies that can’t be supported by evidence, but there is no proof that it didn’t happen…proving a negative means having a positive that proves the positive…
will the new owner kick her to the curb where she belongs? That should be her ‘worry.’
Infidel says
I thought as much. Which is why I suggested that after she gets the boot – or jumps on her own – she contact the San Francisco chapter of the KKK and get a new insurance selling job, so that she can walk in her father’s footsteps. Maybe she can sell life insurance to all the vagrants pooping on SF sidewalks, and then expand to the flash mobs who’ve now reached what once was Silicon Valley
somehistory says
Of course….the homeless need insurance, esp on their makeshift dwellings and their lives lived on the street. I have no use for people such as her….and she’s boohooing because her control gig is about to end. …she has had no sympathy for those she silenced…she doesn’t deserve any.
gravenimage says
Yes–this about the Klan controlling Beaumont Texas in 1977 is just ludicrous.
In fact, when a Klansman showed up in full regalia at the police station there in 1966 to bail out some other Klansmen who’d been arrested, he was charged under an anti-Klan mask law.
So much for them controlling the town eleven years later.

Twitter’s Woke Tyrant Cries Over Fear She Won’t Be Able to Censor as Many People
…………
Oh! The humanity!
Fitna says
Elon Musk called out Saudi Arabia on its lack of human rights in his argument with the Saudi prince who owns 5% of Twitter and was very likely behind all the censorship…so Musk is a sharp man and really is in the battle for free speech.
I agree with other comments, Musk needs to fire most of the leadership of Twitter, because they are the ones responsible for turning into a far-Left, pro-Islam, anti-free speech site.
Leopards don’t change their spots. Just because Gadde’s family faced some racism, it doesn’t give her the right to eliminate free speech and silence the violence of millions who have legit concerns about Islam and Leftist ideology.
We need to bring back controls on immigration. There is such a thing as good and bad immigrants, ofc we need to keep the bad ones out or they’ll destroy our way of life like termites rotting your house.
Infidel says
Musk is genuine about free speech, even if I wasn’t a fan of his other projects, like Tesla. Like recently, after the Ukraine invasion started, he provided satellite service to the Ukrainians so that they could get their message across to their people and others as well. However, when he was urged to curb Russian channels that delivered Russian propaganda, he refused, stating that he’s for free speech for everybody! Think what you will of the Russians, but that’s what true free speech is!
Agree w/ you on the immigrants as well. I just don’t see what special talents Gadde or Agrawal had that locals didn’t. It’s not like they were great engineers who developed a great software package or a new chip
gravenimage says
Agree about Musk and freedom of speech, Infidel.

Thanks Infidel, interesting post, I wasn’t aware and that’s very generous of Musk and it’s great that he truly stands for freedom of speech.
Unfortunately many on the Left misunderstood the lessons of WW2 and they try to stifle free speech in the hopes of preventing another Holocaust.
It is a noble sentiment but a tool too easily used by fascists to silence opponents.
Actually what you want to do is let everyone speak freely. Those that spread hate against Jews for example are the people you want to go after.
Now we should also be careful about defining what ‘hate’ is. Speaking truthfully about a problem with a person, group, organization or people is not hate, it’s relaying important information.
If we say many Muslims are involved in gang-raping children, that’s not hate if it’s a fact backed by hard evidence. Then you do something about the problem.
If however someone is spreading lies, misinformation about certain people in order to generate hate against them, then it needs to be exposed as a lie and those people should be charged with libel/slander.
Deleting their lies might make sense but in the interest of free speech, you can leave it up and indicate it’s been exposed/debunked as hateful propaganda and let the readers decide.
Regarding Gadde or Agrawal I agree as well, unfortunately some of these south asians that rise through the ranks either tend to be Muslim or they’re radical Leftists that support Islam, which makes the whole Indian community look bad.
So I have no problem if such people were fired from their jobs. In fact in general the Indian community is very supportive of the US and free speech, so these radical individuals are actually outliers.
James Lincoln says
Fitna,
Excellent and well-thought-out post. My compliments.

I believe that any speech save that inciting violence should be allowed (not that everyone has to offer a platform for all speech, of course).
There is a lot of unpleasant and dishonest speech, no doubt–among the most obvious are Holocaust denial and 9/11 “Trutherism”–but even these can be countered by honest speech.
