New in PJ Media:
Passover started Friday and Sunday is Easter for most Christians (Orthodox Christian Easter, or Pascha, is next Sunday). In keeping with the season, The New York Times thought Thursday was the perfect day to publish a rancorous anti-God screed written by an angry former believer. The Times is now openly proselytizing for atheism, and while that’s certainly its prerogative, it also must be asked: why now, in the lead-in to two of the holiest of times for both Jews and Christians? And also, cui bono — who benefits?
The Times op-ed was the work of Shalom Auslander, the author of a book called Foreskin’s Lament: A Memoir, in which he bitterly recounts his Orthodox Jewish upbringing and how he has said goodbye to all that. He does essentially the same thing in the Times piece, presenting some acid recollections of being an eight-year-old learning about Passover, and adding, “In this time of war and violence, of oppression and suffering, I propose we pass over something else: God.”
This is because God’s judgment on the Egyptians in the Exodus story seems to Auslander to be excessive. “God, it seems, paints with a wide brush. He paints with a roller. In Egypt, said our rabbi, he even killed first-born cattle. He killed cows. If he were mortal, the God of Jews, Christians and Muslims would be dragged to The Hague. And yet we praise him. We emulate him. We implore our children to be like him.” Auslander adds, “Perhaps now, as missiles rain down and the dead are discovered in mass graves, is a good time to stop emulating this hateful God. Perhaps we can stop extolling his brutality. Perhaps now is a good time to teach our children to pass over God — to be as unlike him as possible.” That’s the Times’ message for Passover and Easter.
Auslander doesn’t explain, of course, where he thinks he got the moral sense that he used to judge God’s actions in the Exodus account as he understands them. The Times, of course, has no space to consider answers to Auslander’s theological questions, which have been considered by Jews and Christians throughout the ages who were far more thoughtful than Auslander himself is. It does, however, have plenty of space for Auslander’s practical conclusion: “Killing gods is an idea I can get behind.”
The deicide would be for our own good, you see, because Auslander claims that it would make us more open to people who are not like us.
There is more. Read the rest here.

I don’t suppose the New York Times would have the courage to publish an article by an ex-Muslim criticizing the murderous commands of Allah during this holy season of Ramadan. I guess they know Jews and Christians would not ever go on a bloody rampage in response to such an insulting piece of so called journalism.

NYT comes out in the open as promoting godlessness which it has done obliquely for decades. Good Friday’s main message is that we humans are so corrupt that we cannot see God, even if He appears to us. We see what is convenient or opportune for us. We are opportunists.
The NYT article proves the Christian point of view of the depravity of the human soul and its need for healing, salvation and redemption.

It’s certainly their prerogative to be anti-religion. But even though I don’t read their paper I assume that the main object for their anti-religious push is and will always be Christianity. Please correct me if I’m wrong. But that’s fine by me as a Christian actually, I’m not going to go crazy about it, set cars on fire, or threaten to kill or mutilate anybody over it. Actually, I would be more than happy to stand up for my faith against any accusation or allegation they may come up with, so bring it on. If we could just ask this one curtesy – that they don’t immediately label people as racists, Nazi’s or Islamophobes (who’s ever mentioning Christianophobia btw?), because they critizise Islam. Double-standard and hypocricy goes hand in hand and you don’t have to be religious in order to be a hypocrite..

Auslander still thinks like a literal-minded 8-year old. He is certainly welcome to leave Judaism if it makes him unhappy. In America, an accident of birth shouldn’t tie him down.
The New York Times, of course, like Auslander, has an unending hereditary problem with Jews and Judaism. It still nags the Ochs-Sulzberger clan. It has become institutionalized at the Times.
mortimer says
NYT has just delivered the equivalent of Will Smith’s famous ‘SLAP HEARD AROUND THE WORLD’. Only NYT did it to all Jews and Christians at their holy seasons of Easter and Passover.
Robert Spencer correctly identifies Auslander’s problem as shallowness. Auslander doesn’t reveal the morality with which he puts God on trial. Quote: NYT … “has no space to consider answers to Auslander’s theological questions, which have been considered by Jews and Christians throughout the ages who were far more thoughtful than Auslander himself is.
As Spencer points out, many distinguished theologians have addressed the ‘problem of evil’ … which admittedly is one of the most difficult problems in theology.
Shallowness of thought is surely the besetting sin of our time.

Since Easter Sunday of 2022 is now passed and an anit-God movement that is stronger more massive than that an any atheist movement another anti- God system that is ironically very religion but still against God because it substitutes a false god in place of the true God ofthe Bible is daemonic belief system is also very violent. Murderously violent.
As the reader, of this site knows is Islam.
Connected with all this with Easter Sunday , is that it’s now been a complete three years since those insidious and murderous Islamic terror affronts which occurred in Sri Lanka on an Easter Sunday 21, 2019.
Those horrendous jihad murder attacks were the outcome of the Islamic doctrine from the Qu‘’ran [the Koran] of a sexual paradise with many virgins, houris , in it for the male Muslim /jihadist who dies fighting in the jihad for the cause of Islam is found in the “holy book” of Islam, the Koran, in Sura 44:54. 55: 56. 78:31.
As there is the Koranic instruction of Sura 9:111 which teaches, “The believers fight in Allah’s Cause, they slay and are slain, they kill and are killed.” Getting back to the origin doctrine of Islam from the Koran of a sex –filled paradise with many houris for the use only by the male jihadist who dies fight for the advancement of Islam.
All this started when the founder and prophet of Islam, Muhammad manufactured Islam he put , had stolen, some of sex doctrine of Zoroastrian mythology and a yet smaller bit of Hindu mythological sex teachings along with as well as mixture pagan Arabian folklore and myth plus a heavy dose of Judaism and Christianity . Also some of it apostate “Christianity” For the prophet of Islam, Muhammad, couldn’t discern the difference between genuine Bible based Christianity and bogus “Christianity.”
Those words and teaching Muhammad gathered from many sources, including the virgins /sex place mythology. , and taught as “Divine Truth” were written down on many things then later compiled and then went into the composition of the Koran. So the hoax of the Koran is actually a mixture and fusion Judaism Christianity and mythology of other religions and now the Muslim clerics with the Koranic brainwashing of young Muslims who are thoroughly mind programmed into believing this Islamic/Koranic virgins myth.
This deception of false doctrine /myth into the thoughts of some people was predicted in the Bible along with the false teachers who engage in the indoctrination of such a myth /doctrine into the minds and hearts other people . For it is written “For the time will come when they will not stand wholesome teaching, but will follow their own fancy and gather a crown of teachers to tickle their ears. They will stop their ears to the truth and turn to mythology.” Second Timothy 4:3,4. [N.E.B.]

Well, *emulate*…means more than *imitate.* To emulate someone, you do better than that one.
No one can *emulate* God.
Let us see this fool create a Universe, or even just a lowly one-celled organism. He will not be allowed to use anything that has already been created…which would include his hands and his twisted brain’s limited ability.
As Mr. Spencer points out, this idiot wants to make others just as foolish, just as lacking in a moral base as he, because to reject God, he has rejected the morals that are taught in the Bible.
One thing I noticed…he equates the God of the Hebrews (Jews), the God of Christians, with the fake ‘god’ of islam, satan. mozlums do not worship the God of the Bible, Whom Jews and Chiristians worship.
Fools just keep coming out of the woodwork and showing their foolishness by opening their mouth…or in this case, taking a seat at the keyboard.
for more information on the killing that atheist governments have done, read Mr. Horowitz’s book, “Dark Agenda.” Really informative, interesting, and a necessary warning to all who still believe in a God of Love.
CogitoErgoSum says
Yes, it would seem he has not taken time to figure out that people worship different gods. In fact, he has come up with a god of his own whom he wishes to kill and then replace with himself as the source of all wisdom, of what is good and what is evil. Well, he can go his own way as long as he does not try to force me to follow him and worship at his feet. The people who founded our government here in the U.S. thought that we should be free to decide such matters for ourselves and this is why he is able to say what is saying. I just hope we can hang on to that freedom.
somehistory says
I agree. He has done the same thing satan did…set himself up to be the one to decide things for everyone, and he accuses God ,just as satan did…of withholding something good from humans…while he brags that he has a better way, just as satan did.
Freedom, like life, is precious.

The point about God killing even cattle at the first Passover is interesting. God told Moses what to do in order to let the angel of death know which households should be spared. Anyone who did as God said was saved. Those too dumb to listen and do as God said suffered the penalty. Maybe that was part of the message. Sometimes it’s good to be smarter than a cow.
somehistory says
I was unaware that a lamb is considered “cattle.” or “cows.” From the idiot: “He killed cows’
It is my understanding that sheep and cows are two different animals…two different species.
And God didn’t kill the cows. He told Moses to tell the Jews to. How about lambs being food for them before the long trek across the Red Sea away for the tyranny. And the blood would, as you point out, proof of their faith and obedience in order to be spared. And, it was a symbol to everyone of the Coming of the Messiah.
The cattle killed in the plagues was to make the pharoah and his crew realize that the God of the Hebrews had more power than ra or the others; and, to make them realize that if they didn’t allow God’s people to leave, they were going to suffer a lot of economic loss.
He may have been brought up in a family that observed the Passover, but he certainly didn’t learn anything by it.
CogitoErgoSum says
The blood of a lamb on the lintel was the sign for the angel to pass on by. The firstborn sons of those households that were not marked with the blood of the lamb were killed, including the firstborn sons of their slaves and of their cattle. So cows would not have been killed but their firstborn male offspring would have been if they were not protected by the lamb’s blood. The question I have is did the cattle have to be inside some type of building with lamb’s blood on the lintel in order to be spared? I don’t know but probably the blood on the doorway of the main house would have been enough …. but I would have done the slaves’ quarters and the barn or stable too just to be safe.
The mention of the firstborn of slaves is interesting too. It seems strange to me that if the Hebrews were being held as slaves they would have slaves themselves. I think it means that God would have protected even the households of the Egyptians if they had followed His words.
somehistory says
since a “vast mixed company” left Egypt with the Hebrews, it seems plausible that some may have followed the instructions from Moses, or they at least saw what happened during the night that made them aware that the God of the Hebrews was as powerful as He was said to be and kept His Word.
Perhaps it was only the cattle of the faithless Egyptians who lost their firstborn Just as when Moses was given the Law and God spoke to the Jews on the mountain, when they agreed to do as He said, He told them that their livestock would not suffer miscarriages and their crops would grow, etc.
So, perhaps those who put the lamb’s blood on the doorposts didn’t have to do more than that to have protection for their cattle

It will be a long wait.
The main thing that cracks me up about Auslander–not that he is personally all that funny–but is that he doesn’t appear to realize that he is part of a long tradition of Jews complaining about growing up Jewish. Most are probably familiar with Philip Roth, but there are many others.
Of course, Jews and Catholics and others have perfect freedom to do this–but try it as an ex-Muslim and you are in mortal danger.
Aussie Infidel says
No one could be a more fervent atheist than I am – I have no religious beliefs whatsoever – and I wish the world was a saner and more rational place. Nevertheless, I understand why religion is important to many people, and generally, I believe it is rude and hurtful to denigrate the beliefs of others.
However, those who denigrate Judaism and Christianity are mainly Leftists who seem to have no problem with supporting Islam – the most blood thirsty religion ever invented. Also they don’t seem to understand, that if their favorite religion ever does gain supremacy, they will be among the first to be “invited to faith” and asked to recite the Shahadah. And if they refuse, they could be summarily executed like millions of others before them.
The only thing that would make us more open to people “who are not like us”, would be if those people also reciprocated the tolerance and respect that Westerners generally show toward them. And of course, there are many such people from different cultures to whom we are usually open – even many Muslims.

Yes, but:
The problem with muslims is that we’re playing muslim roulette, never knowing which muslim will all of a sudden decide to become more “devout”.

Happy Passover and Easter to those observing these holidays (Uncle Kepha celebrates the resurrection 52 Sundays per year, recognizing in the saving work of Christ a new creation).
OK, NYTimes. I respect your right to insult me and others like me. Just don’t take a moral pose when you whine about others’ “hatreds” and “insensitivity”. For the record, I hold there’s no such thing as an atheist. Listen to one long enough, and you learn about the idol he worships.
I am also sick of the moralizing of people like Auslander. Joseph Schaechter and Friedrich Waismann, two members of the Vienna Circle, which tried mightily to relate all knowledge to the logical-empirical method, observed they had no way to get from the empirical “is” to the ethical “ought”. Other evolutionary materialists in power and in a hurry, in the names of social justice and progress, in the enlightened 20th century alone, killed, exiled, imprisoned, or otherwise ruined more people than suffered for heresy or witchcraft in fifteen centuries between the conversion of Constantine and Ruggles v. NY (decided and upheld, btw, by associates of our own John Jay).
All the time, I run into “atheists” who are vexed that I, an heir of the Great Awakening, fail to stick up for the Spanish Inquisition, Pius the IX, the Crusades (which I’ve come to understand more, if not approve of), and the late 19th century pogroms, or fail to praise Hitler for “re-Christianizing” Europe. Yet the same ones are vexed when they are associated with Stalin, Mao, the Kims of North Korea, Pol Pot, or Ceaucscu. They hold that I refuse to recognize the “diversity” of evolutionary materialism, while going so far as to suppose that as a “fundamentalist”, I’m also supposed to be a fan of the Ithna Ashariyya Shi’ite Muslim Khomeini.
Fie on the NYSlimes.

*Excellent* point. This of course come from Judeo-Christian morals, the very thing Auslander is condemning here.
