There just isn’t any doubt about what is happening here. Dartmouth is trying to destroy the College Republicans and crush dissent. It’s what Leftists do, and virtually all of America’s major colleges and universities are controlled by the Left today.
“Dartmouth bills College Republicans $3,600 for security after forcing live Andy Ngo event online,” by Greg Piper, Just the News, April 21, 2022:
An Ivy League school is demanding after-the-fact security fees from its College Republicans chapter for an event the administration banned in person, threatening the club’s ability to continue hosting events, its president told Just the News.
Dartmouth College ordered the CRs to move the Jan. 20 event with Portland-based Antifa chronicler Andy Ngo online just hours before it was scheduled to start, citing “credible threats” the administration received from law enforcement.
Hanover Police, however, said it didn’t ask Dartmouth to shut down the Ngo event, which it was prepared to secure, and wasn’t told why Dartmouth moved it online.
Event security fees on campus have emerged as a high-profile flashpoint in recent years, usually with right-leaning student clubs accusing administrators of caving to the heckler’s veto by sticking them with unreasonable estimates and bills for speakers perceived as controversial.
Ohio approved legislation in 2020 to ban public universities from basing security fees on the anticipated reaction to a speaker. But an appeals court dismissed a lawsuit against the University of Minnesota after it revised a policy used to move conservative pundit Ben Shapiro to a smaller, less convenient venue than progressive speakers received.
Dartmouth CRs President Chloe Ezzo learned the club had been stuck with a $3,600 bill from the Ngo event, and was thus not in “good standing,” when she applied for funding for its Wednesday night event with James O’Keefe, the conservative firebrand who founded Project Veritas.
The Dartmouth Anarchists, an anonymous group that previously threatened to disrupt the Ngo event, publicly accused the CRs of announcing the O’Keefe event “at the last minute” to avoid scrutiny but didn’t directly threaten to disrupt it.
In a phone call hours before the O’Keefe event, Ezzo described a maddening bureaucratic process that involved three requests for funding from the 18-member Council on Student Organizations, whose rules are “very vague and selectively enforced.”
The council didn’t mention the outstanding security bill until the second request, and one member suggested a prohibited alumni fundraiser to pay the debt, according to Ezzo. It rejected her third request for a token $450 to cover just security, meaning the Department of Safety and Security may stick them with another bill of unknown amount.
“We might come out of this event with four grand of debt” and risk the college freezing its account, Ezzo said. “I feel like we’re set up to fail.”

Where the Left is most in control in America, i.e., college campuses, there is the restriction of freedom of speech most in peril, though woke corporations, the MSM and the Democratic Party are giving college campuses a “run for their money” respecting who can “best” characterize free speech as hate speech—and replete with many other kinds of restrictions on independent and conservative thought.
Leftism = the negation of freedom of speech. One knows this or should know it. No avoiding this.

Too true, Wellington.

Dartmouth bills College Republicans $3,600 for security after forcing Antifa critic’s event online
…………….
Well, this is appalling, and for multiple reasons. For one thing, universities are not supposed to bill groups for security. Then, doing this *after the fact* is especially disgusting.
Then, Dartmouth did not actually provide security to this event, in any case, since they later forced it on-line.
Then they lied about the Hanover Police–who themselves said the would provide security to the even, certainly without charging the Campus Republicans.
Most appalling, of course, is that the Campus Republicans never constituted a threat n any case–jus those who threatened *them*.
This is exactly the same basis on which Britain has banned civilized anti-Jihadists Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller.

Isn’t it amazing? The very institution, once highly-respected, which once legitimately claimed the highest moral motives is now a producer of liars and political pugilists; persecutor of its own conservative students, the destroyer of moral standards, the parent of antifa and antisemites, the enslaver of students into debt.
It’s always the same story: A great quality product is created by sacrifice and becomes profitable. Then new people take over and restructure for maximum profit, cheapening the product’s components wherever possible and expanding market share until it knows it’s selling an inferior product – but the lust for profit and the feeling of power are too great to resist.
Universities sold the idea that their certification is the ticket to a better life and have now failed to deliver, creating courses to satisfy social interests instead of real skills. Elon Musk is the first large employer to challenge them by hiring based on abilities instead of a university pedigree. The success of his teams have proven the University System is broken and full of superfluousness in a connected world where most knowledge is accessible with a fingertip.
Maybe someday there will be a movie, “Escape From Dartmouth”, The true story of one man’s escape from being fleeced by the University System.

Perhaps the bill of $3,600 should have been sent to the antifa-supporting groups that were threatening violence.

I don’t know about the US but here in Australia there is an offense covered in the law called “demanding money under false pretence”.
In other words, sending someone a bill for a service that wasn’t delivered would fit the bill completely.
Come to think of it, Biden could be charged with that. He was elected to run the country in accordance with the constitution, is getting paid to do that and isn’t delivering.

Those violent lawless ruffians who make up that subversive Marxist organization Antifa in which leaders are so very disingenuous to masquerade as some kind of “civil right” group also have their operative/ stooges so brainwashed and so trained in striking out first in vicious malicious violence are in the “culture war” of Antifa and other like -minded Red/Green alliance terror entities with the malice -filled actions against people who are Conservative, this a clear and strong reminder of 1979 movie entitled “TIME AFTER TIME .
In which the hero of that movie that “The first man to raise his fist is the man who has run out of ideas.”
This shows that its the hooligans of Antifia in his ‘culture war” who are the ones who have “run out of ideas.”
Hooligans those Antifa thugs really are because they have proven this , again and again by their own horrendous violent behavior.
