Edward Durr is an odd character. He previously wrote that Islam was a “false religion” and a “cult of hate.” Now, after a meeting with Hamas-linked CAIR, he denounces “Islamophobia” and seeks recognition for Islamic holidays.
So does Durr now think that the negative views of Islam he held previously were just manifestations of an “Islamophobia” that he now rejects? When he wrote his negative statements about Islam, he was likely concerned about jihad violence and Sharia oppression. Is he no longer concerned about such matters? Did Hamas-linked CAIR convince him that all the horrors perpetrated worldwide in the name of Islam and in accord with its teachings have nothing whatsoever to do with the peaceful, benign genuine article? Or did Durr see visions of a campaign excoriating him for “Islamophobia” and “bigotry” in his future?

Selaedin Maksut didn’t expect anything specific to come out of his meeting late last year with then-state Sen.-elect Ed Durr after an anti-Muslim tweet of Durr’s surfaced.
But what was initially planned as a meeting to explain Islam to Durr — who in the 2019 tweet denounced it as a “false religion” and “cult of hate” — turned into something more. It made Durr an ally to one of the major causes of the Council on American-Islamic Relations: Getting the Islamic holidays of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha officially recognized in New Jersey, just like some major Christian and Jewish holidays.
Maksut, who leads the council’s New Jersey branch, said that during the November meeting, he explained the effort to Durr to give the newly elected Republican lawmaker an idea of what his group does.
Durr’s tweet, which WNYC’s Matt Katz reposted the day after the Nov. 3 election, was condemned by CAIR as “hate-filled, xenophobic and anti-Muslim.” Durr quickly apologized and accepted the group’s invitation to meet the following week.
“I stand against Islamophobia and all forms of hate, and I commit to that going forward,” Durr said in a statement at the time.
Soon after the November meeting, Durr (R-Gloucester) called Maksut to say he would seek to make the two days state holidays.
“I was really touched that it came from an organic thought, that he took it seriously when I was describing my work, and he took that opportunity to extend that olive branch,” Maksut said.
Eid al-Fitr is a fast-breaking holiday celebrated at the end of Ramadan. Eid al-Adha, the “feast of the sacrifice,” commemorates Abraham’s readiness to sacrifice his son and is celebrated about two months later. Both are on the lunar calendar. This year, the former is celebrated in May and the latter in July.
Last week, Durr introduced a resolution, NJ SJR54 (22R) , that would make would make Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha “days of observance” — a largely symbolic designation that would also call for annual proclamations to celebrate them….

What do you mean “had to do it”. If he did it against his convictions he’s nothing but a coward, that should be obvious. The problem today is that most politicians are typical yes-men and would never even dream of criticizing Islam because it’s dangerous and often has a lot of other consequences. The fact he even dared challenging Islam publicly tells me, that he’s probably not a coward but maybe just very ill-informed and therefore easily manipulated. That could be the reason although I’m not sure. Only he himself knows the real reason, I guess..

Eid al-Fitr celebrates Islam’s first victory over Infidels. Eid al-Adha is about Muslim supremacy overe Jews, and is *celebrated* with the most cruel slaughter of animals. In Dar-al-Islam this often literally leads to blood flowing in the streets.

While I understand your points I am going to make a few points so maybe we can stop this behavior from recurring.
When Ed Durr called Islam out he was publically ridiculed. Based on what I have seen, after he made a stand not only was he publically chastised but in private he got it worse, and from people he trusted. His friends and family who believe “Islam is peace”, or even those who have a clue but are afraid of being cancelled, also came after him. Then he had the social media shadow banning or cancellations and the trouble with his job or maybe his wife with her co workers and job (don’t know if he is married just an example based on others).
