Madeleine Albright, former U.S. Secretary of State, is dead at age 84. She was in no sense an original thinker, but as she wielded considerable political power and influence, she was in part responsible for the fantasy and wishful thinking that dominates the U.S. foreign policy establishment’s approach to Islam, as well as the stance of domestic authorities on the religion.
In 2009, Albright claimed: “There is no doubt in my mind that Muslim countries can be democracies. Turkey is a perfect example of that. It is very evident, and, actually, in my study of religions, in many ways Islam is maybe the most democratic religion because there is nobody between you and God. So I do not think that is something that can be used as reason not to have Muslim democracies.”
As far as I know, Albright never addressed why Turkey was the lone example of a republic in the Islamic world, or why Turkey itself was and is re-Islamizing. She never, as far as I know, spoke about the authoritarianism inherent in Islam, with its arbitrary and all-powerful Allah, and with the dictum calling for unreserved obedience to the ruler that is attributed to Muhammad: “Listen and obey (your chief) even if an Ethiopian whose head is like a raisin were made your chief.” (Bukhari 1.10.693)
Albright also virtue-signaled off Trump’s immigration policies, claiming that she was ready to “register as a Muslim” in protest to his restrictions on immigration from seven Muslim countries that could not or would not provide adequate information about those who were coming in. She never, as far as I know, discussed the possibility of jihad terrorists taking advantage of lenient immigration policies, or offered any suggestions about how to prevent that.
She was, in sum, just another establishment hack, just another one of the many reasons why we’re in the fix we’re in today.

Why are these ‘intellectuals’ so engrossed with the fawning infatuation with a perverted, degenerate totalitarian political ideology?
I much prefer Ayesha’s words, (Mohammed’s child bride – married her when she was 6, consummated when she was 9 & he 54), in describing Islam: “……nobody suffers like the women of those who believe.”
What would ANYBODY believe? The words of these dingbats or, the words of a woman, she was around 19-21yrs old when she said them, who was right there at the very heart & soul of it all?
CogitoErgoSum says
Apparently Albright thought that the Allah of the Muslims is the one true god. That does not make her bright at all in my opinion. Muslims and their Allah make it a point of honor to stand defiantly between all people of other religions and their gods. I don’t see how that in any way contributes to making for a good democracy. I agree that, yes, she was just another hack as far as her views on Islam.
mortimer says
Madeleine Albright completely MISSED the fact that Islam’s unitary faith and its unitary prophet is built to produce UNITARY RULE … TOTALITARIAN RULE … and it normally has done just that for the last 1400 years.
Madeleine Albright was unable to observe a complicated subterfuge such as Islam, and then SEE THROUGH IT to the core, while making the correct deductions. Her analysis of Islam was superficial and only skin-deep.
As Robert Spencer points out, Albright’s observation was based on the SOLE EXAMPLE of modern secularist Turkey (not a representative example), rather than an in-depth knowledge of Islamic history, its rulers and the textual source of Islamism … discriminatory, authoritarian Sharia law. A much better example of real Islamic rule is provided by SAUDI ARABIA or by the Taliban’s Emirate of Afghanistan.
Islamism normally creates a THEOCRATIC STATE based on Sharia, the only legitimate law—since it is divine. A legislature is not needed to impose Sharia. The sultan (‘ruler’) imposes Sharia. Voting is not needed, because Sharia was ‘finished’ by the decree of mullahs in 1111 AD. No further discussion is required by elected officials.
Islamism is totalitarian. Islam is imposed by force and generally has only yielded to force.
Historically, Islam was spread by coercion and by violence … Islamism doesn’t need voting to succeed. Islamism always creates a top-down system of dictatorship. If the sultan imposes strict Sharia law, he is an acceptable ruler. If he doesn’t, then he is deposed by coup d’état.
In the polity of Islam, the ‘voters’ vote with their sword, not with a ballot. It is no mistake that the sword is the main symbol on the Saudi flag. One family rules Saudi Arabia and they do so with brutality.
Does this sound like democracy to you? No. It does not.
The SPONTANEOUS and SUPERFICIAL analyses of Islam by Western politicians is the main problem why Western countries cannot bring Islamism to heel.
Islamism will not and can never respond equal-to-equal with democracies.

You would have to be a religious nutter to come up with that nonsense. I have never heard of any theist or anyone for that matter discussing which religion is more democratic.Nothing democratic about a bunch of sheep listening to a guy who has never worked a day in his life and loves the sound of his own voice. He especially likes the wine, candlelight and children.
Here is a short story that makes more sense…a guy gets home after having a couple (maybe 6) beers after work and his wife yells “and where have you been”? He says…”i..i ..i just had a couple of beers after work” …and she says….”oh yeah? So why is the fridge door open then”?

Prior to the great flood most all men lived for several centuries or even more as the ultra violet rays were not present in the atmosphere. Later, the age of man was fixed at 70 and above. Today, man can average 90 in some countries for a variety of factors.
Psalms 90:10 to 12:
10 As for the days of our life, they contain seventy years, Or if due to strength, eighty years, Yet their pride is but labor and sorrow; For soon it is gone and we fly away.
11 Who understands the power of Your anger And Your fury, according to the fear that is due You?
12 So teach us to number our days, That we may present to You a heart of wisdom.

PRCS, I am no fan of Albright, but I wouldn’t actually hold this against her. Many families hid the fact that they were Jewish, due to the danger during the Holocaust or severe antisemitism in Iron Curtain nations.
I just recently found out that I am significantly part Jewish as a result of my brother taking a “23 & Me” genetics test. I don’t even know yet which side of the family this is on–it came as a complete surprise to us. Our parents have passed away and neither ever mentioned it–they themselves may not have known.

tim gallagher says
I don’t know much about Albright, just a name from the distant past. But that statement she apparently made about how there’s nothing between God and a believer in a religion has to be about the dumbest statement i have ever heard. I would say that the members of every religion would believe that there is nothing between them and the version of God that they believe in. I know that, as Christian, I believe that there is nothing between me and the God I believe in. The Church structure is not really needed. I think that it is the same for every religion. And if there is no God at all then there are merely a lot of people who are talking to themselves, but thinking that they are talking to God. Albright was certainly talking crap in her praise of some imagined superiority that islam possesses. And I don’t think Islam values democracy much at all.
somehistory says
What did she believe the fake “prophet”…slime maggot, sack of feculent matter, raper of children, mass-murdering slave -trading thief, lying son of satan the devil…was to his followers and to mozlums today?
the fake ‘prophet’ is worshipped along with the fake ‘god’ of islam, but he was said, believed to be, the creature who got messages to render to the followers.
And, yes, as a Christian believer in God and His Son, I recognize that the Apostle Paul, regarding Jesus Christ, said, “There is one God and one mediator between God and men, a Man, Christ Jesus.”
Jesus said, “No one comes to the Father, except through me.”
When a Christian prays, they do so in the Name of Jesus.
Better this than a man-made democracy. There is no way to have a hearing…any time, any day, for any unlimited time, with a human in the system of government called a democracy. a Christian can have a hearing with God…any day, any time, for any length of time wanted or needed without interruption or cost.
this not-too-bright woman was a fool.
gravenimage says
Somehistory, I don’t believe that there is anything in Christianity incompatible with democracy. A large number of Christian (or at least culturally-Christian) nations are democracies or at least semi-free states.
Being Christian or living in a democracy is–thank goodness!–not either/or.
somehistory says
g,
It doesn’t matter what anyone *believes* …including me. What matters is what God says is best. That is why Jesus said to pray for God’s Kingdom and that is why Daniel explained that all human governments, represented by wild beasts, will be brought to an end by God’s Kingdom.
The Jews would have accepted Jesus if He had overthrown the roman government, and set up one with Him as King. And, even His own disciples asked Jesus if He was going to set up His Kingship then.
Some governments by man give their citizens more freedom to speak, work, etc. The Founders of the U.S tried to guarantee the freedoms that are representative of the gifts of “rights” given by God to man. it has proven to be much better than other forms and systems of government.
But, if Christians listen to Christ, they will pray for God to set up a Perfect Rulership over the earth. It will be far superior to all human governments…including democracies.
PRCS says
But, if Muslims listen to Mohammad, they will pray for Allah to set up a Perfect Rulership over the earth. It will be far superior to all human governments…including democracies.
Just another belief system.
gravenimage says
Somehistory, I believe that it is important for humans to be as fair and just as possible. Humans are not perfect, but as you note some forms of government are much better than others. It’s important to fight for that, too–caring about good government is anything but anti-Christian.
somehistory says
And, I did not say “caring” about good government is un-Christian.
Many years ago., a young Christian man in Argentina saw the corruption in the government and decided to become involved in trying to make it better, to clean up the corruption, and realized that to do that, he would have to run for office. He ran and won on the promise of being honest and working to clean it up.
After some time of trying, he finally realized that everything he was trying to do was being derailed by the corrupt who were still in office. He said that no matter what he tried to do, others kept ruining his efforts. He said he had no choice; he left office because he was not willing to compromise.
I believe, based on a long time study of the Bible, that the only thing a Christian can do is to obey the laws that do not conflict with God’s Laws, and to do what Jesus said….”Pay to Ceasar what is Ceasar’s and God’s things to God,” and to pray for God to bring His kingdom to the earth.
Daniel describes that and it will mean that His Kingdom will be the only rule.
Until then, I pray for this and try to be an honest citizen and obey the laws.
And, if someone demands a “link” to the guy in Argentina, they’ll just have to realize I read it while paper and print were in vogue. Not only popular, but the web was not in existence. So, no links. Anyone reading can believe it or not.
gravenimage says
Somehistory, some cases–as perhaps this in Argentina–are indeed hopeless. But generally historically government has improved in the West. Perfection may be impossible, but progress is not.
somehistory says
I’m not sure that what we have today is better than what the citizens had when John Q. Adams was presiding.
Sen. Paul is a lone voice when it comes to what is right. Cruz has made a few moves in the right direction, but since he was running for president…without meeting all of the legal requirements… I don’t believe he would have done a good job of cleaning house had he won.
and, since the demon crats are controlling everything, and making horrible choices, and lying…I can’t say things are all that different from what the young man in Argentina described. Wheeling and dealing and committing fraud and crimes of all sorts, lining their pockets.
The Psalmist said, “They are all alike corrupt.”

Madeleine Albright, who said ‘Islam is maybe the most democratic religion,’ dies at age 84
………………..
Not just untrue, but the very inversion of truth. Islam is, in fact, the *least* democratic of religions.
And unlike Christianity, there is no close loving personal relationship between Allah and his believers–just a state of fear.
More:
In 2009, Albright claimed: “There is no doubt in my mind that Muslim countries can be democracies. Turkey is a perfect example of that. It is very evident, and, actually, in my study of religions, in many ways Islam is maybe the most democratic religion because there is nobody between you and God. So I do not think that is something that can be used as reason not to have Muslim democracies.”
………………..
Turkey has never been a full democracy, and Erdogan had already been in power for seven years in 2009. And he’s still in power now, after almost twenty years. Turkey is increasingly *undemocratic*. In fact, Turkey was only democratic to the extent that it *rejected* Islam under Kemalism instituted by Attaturk.
And other Muslim nations are worse. Islamic clerics regularly reject even the trappings of democracy. In Islam it is the most vicious thugs who violently seize power, just as the “Prophet” Muhammed did.

Actually, there are a lot of republics in the islamic world. If one goes population-wise, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Egypt, Sudan,… most of them are republics. There are just a few monarchies – most of the Gulf states, Morocco, Brunei, Malaysia, Jordan.
As far as democracies go, Pakistan and Bangladesh are pure democracies in the true sense – they have mob rule.
Getting back to Albright, she’s the one who pried out Kosovo from Serbia’s hand, and laid the foundation for Russia seizing Crimea in 2014. Not to mention her not recognizing that the Cold War had ended and it was worth admitting Russia into NATO. Had that been done in the 90s, Putin would probably not have had a chip on his shoulder about Russia being isolated by the West
