This is a dangerous move that will destroy Ireland as a free society if “hate speech” laws are enforced. This is because “hate speech” is an inherently subjective concept that can only be defined in accord with the principles and priorities of the person charged with the responsibility of defining it. In practice, “hate speech” laws are used to silence speech that those in power want silenced.
Also, the consistent practice of Islamic and Leftist groups of labeling as “hate speech” all honest discussion of how Islamic jihadis use the texts and teachings of Islam to justify violence and supremacism means that if “hate speech” laws are enacted, such discussion will be criminalized. In that event, Islamic jihadis will be able to operate unopposed, for to say anything against them will be “hate speech.”

Today, March 10, the Seanad has just approved a motion for Ireland to opt-in to new European collective measures to prohibit hate speech. The decision comes after Justice Minister of Ireland, Helen McEntee, participated in the Justice and Home Affairs Council in Brussels on March 3 and 4 and spoke out in favour of the measures. Now the Seanad is calling on the government to start working on enacting an effective hate crime law in Ireland, where minority groups still have no protection against hate violence….
Another major topic discussed during the meeting was the proposal to add hate speech and hate crimes to the list of crimes included in the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) and a vast majority, including Ireland, was in favour of the initiative.
“Hate Crime and Hate Speech undermine the very foundations of a democratic and inclusive society, and the common values enshrined in the EU treaties.” commented minister McEntee “A collective response at European level is needed to effectively address the challenges raised by hate speech and hate crime, and extending the Euro crimes list is the first step in addressing this. The European Commission proposed this initiative last year, citing a “sharp rise in hate speech and hate crime in Europe“. The new measures would target hate directed to “individuals and groups of people sharing or perceived as sharing ‘a common characteristic,’ such as race, ethnicity, language, religion, nationality, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, sex characteristics or any other fundamental characteristic, or a combination of such characteristics.”…

Few things are more idiotic than trying to criminalize an emotion. It’s no one else’s business who I love or hate, and no one else’s business if I express it as long as no actual — namely, physical — violence is implied or threatened. “Hurting someone’s feelings” is not violence and is not grounds for criminal action.
And of course no action will be taken against the “Krayon” in which not only hate of but violence towards “unbelievers” is openly preached. It’s not “hate speech” if it allegedly comes from a god, via an angel, with Mo’ the Baby Raper merely being the bearer of the “prophesy”.

If you have hate speech laws, which are inimical to freedom right from the get-go, who will decide what is hate speech? Why, it will be “authorities” of different stripes, authorities who have one kind of power or another and once give various authorities, whether governmental, academic, the military, the MSM, business executives, et al. such power and you will enter into a never-ending Orwellian world—and freedom, guaranteed, will be lost, just as the ordinary’s citizen’s life will be micro-managed.
Hate speech laws are stupid and an enemy of liberty. They are tyrannical in their own right. These considerations should be the starting points in any consideration of such ill-advised legal strictures, and which strictures it seems young people in the West are ready to sign onto so glibly because they have enjoyed more freedoms than any other young people in history. Ah, this goes back to the “stupidity element” in hate speech laws and, since youth is basically an error, no wonder so many indoctrinated Western youth are desiring something completely against their own interests. I guess that in todays world we would allow Hitler’s Nazi party to continue it’s murderous genocide with out saying anything so as not to be accused of HATE SPEACH. When you speak out against your government you may be accused of hate speech and jailed. On the other hand if your BLM you can insight riots, loot, burn and destroy property with the blessing of those in power. Funny how that works.
It seems that HATE SPEACH is a loose cannon aimed at anyone or group who disagrees with someone or some other group. Just because you are yelling through a bull horn dosen’t make you right or an expert, it just makes you louder.
