Sure thing, party comrade Münch, but who gets to decide what constitutes “defamation, insults and threats,” and what is simply disagreement with the establishment line? I suppose you do, eh? And why should we trust you to do this job without fear or favor?

“German authorities crack down on online hate speech against politicians,” Xinhua, March 23, 2022:

BERLIN, March 22 (Xinhua) — In a coordinated action, German authorities are cracking down on online hate speech directed at politicians by conducting searches and interrogating more than 100 suspects across Germany, the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) said on Tuesday.

The criminal offenses were related to insults against nationally known politicians. Other hate postings contained misleading fake news and misquotes that “appear suitable for defaming and discrediting the people concerned,” the BKA noted. Two in three victims of online hate speech were female politicians.

“Freedom of opinion reaches its limits when it comes to defamation, insults and threats,” BKA President Holger Muench said. With this joint operation, “we are making it clear that anyone who posts hate messages must expect the police to be at the front door afterwards.”…

    • ‘Opinions’ regarding the wisdom, ethics and knowledge of a politician are fair game, because who can say for sure? So many backroom deals are made in politics. Bismarck famously admitted that the public shouldn’t be allowed to see the making of politics or the making sausage.

      Calumny is an intentional lie invented and told to destroy the good name and reputation of someone. Calumny is a horrible sin, but it is common in politics.

      Everything that is sinful is not under the purview of the courts.

      First they imported hoardes of jihadis/potential jihadis without any systems/checks and balances in place, and now managing the locals has become a nuisance. What we are witnessing is the after effects.

  3. Notice that the Islamic world does not care about “hate speech” unless it insults Islam (ditto for Western Leftists unless their treasured Leftist beliefs are questioned). Does Pakistan, as an example, have hate speech codes against the denigration of Christianity?

    Yes, I know an Islamic nation like Indonesia has hate speech codes against all religions, but what does this amount to in the real world? I strongly suspect the ignoring of criticism of Christianity and other non-Muslim faiths like Hinduism, but not for Islam, other than token amounts at time just for form’s sake.

    On a broader matter, all hate speech laws, anywhere on Earth, are daggers pointing at the survival of freedom. Go down the road of hate speech nonsense and, guaranteed, liberty in general is in peril—as it is in a once totally free West which is now being constricted by idiotic hate speech regulations, no more so than in the single weakest link in the West right now, i.e., college campuses, where liberty has effectively disappeared.

      Einstein said that ‘“Science can flourish only in an atmosphere of free speech.”

      The same may be said about almost every other field of thought.

      It is not only tragic but culpable that many universities are trying to crush the freedom to have vigorous debate and thereby, they are imposing a static orthodoxy.

      The University of Chicago has published its support for the freedom of expression on campus. Everyone should learn about it.

      Free flow of ideas is the cornerstone of West’s greatness. But is it fast eroding thanks to the Left and its fellow fascists in islam.   4. It looks like German politicians are slowly creating a 4th Reich. First it’s just advisories, next, prosecutions for criticizing the “leaders” and their actions, then summa cum Trudeau? It seems the liberal German politician’s totalitarian spirit is no longer screaming to get out – it is out and has become Grand Inquisitor.

    I met a German guy the other day, around 35 years old, when I asked him where he was from he said he would rather not say, but I could tell by his accent in English and so I told him I can hear you are from Germany so why not say so, he informed me, with a VERY serious face, that he is ashamed of being German because of the past, so I asked him if he was indeed ashamed of Beethoven, Mozart, the Art and Culture that Germany gave the World for a thousand years or just the 10 years of the Nazi Regime, and was he alive in the 1930s-40s?…I then asked him if he thought the Japanese, Cambodians, Chinese, British, Americans, Italians,Rwandans and many others, should also be ashamed of being whatever Nationality they are today as NO country has a good history when it comes to War,evil, and killing, as every country came out of war, directly or indirectly.
    He was of course speechless…
    The youth of today are even dumber than when I came up during the 50s and 60s.

  9. I wonder if our Supreme Court Justice appointee Jackson could define Hate Speech for us. Or is she also not a linguist. Hate speech is a little harder to define than say WOMEN, after all saying good morning to me on somedays might be hate speech in my mind. I think we should stick with freedom of speech and get over feeling hurt by what someone says. Sticks and stones will break your bones not words.
