JIhad Watch has frequently discussed the threat of the red-green axis. China’s relationship with Iran is a longstanding problem and continues to be.
China has long been determined to prop up Iran, even during the Trump era, regardless of the status of any nuclear deal (a deal that has proven bogus). In 2018, Trump abandoned the nuclear agreement and imposed harsh economic sanctions on Iran, but Tehran “continued to make illicit oil sales” to Chinese companies. A “European official, who also spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the nuclear diplomacy, said China has been protecting Iran and suggested one of the main issues for the West is how much oil China is buying from Iran.”
China’s purchases of Iranian oil increasing signifies a worrying trend, combined with the additional factor of America’s lack of influence on the global front. The red-green axis is growing in strength and is emboldened against a common foe: the U.S. and the West.

Tehran (ISNA) – China’s purchases of Iranian oil have risen to record levels in recent months, exceeding a 2017 peak when the trade was not subject to U.S. sanctions, tanker tracking data showed.
Chinese imports exceeded 700,000 barrels per day (bpd) for January, according to estimates of three tanker trackers, surpassing the 623,000 bpd peak recorded by Chinese customs in 2017 before former U.S. President Donald Trump reimposed sanctions in 2018 on Iranian oil….

I wonder how much oil China needs? They just inked a deal w/ Russia to buy their oil, then they are buying Iran’s, they’re getting oil from Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, if I understand right, and if all that ain’t enough, they’re also buying from Canada the oil that we won’t be getting as a result of shutting down the pipelines
Honestly, if China invades Taiwan, will our entire woke economy cancel them as speedily and effectively as it’s done Russia? I’d like to see them do it. It was easy to isolate Russia and crack down on everything other than oil, which would have made a difference. It’s another thing altogether to isolate China, when it’s near impossible to buy affordable goods, particularly electronics but also things like shoes, which ain’t made there
On a different note, we are treating everything Russian w/ a lot more hostility for their invasion of Ukraine than we did muslims or islamic counttries after 9/11. Interestingly, if Russia was a muslim country and the bulk of Russians were muslim, rather than Eastern Orthodox, would we be anywhere near as hostile to them? Not talking about us JihadWatchers here, but western societies as a whole. Would Apple and Microsoft terminate their sales and services in Russia? Would Exxon divest all its assets? Would Facebook and Twitter shut down Russian media outlets?

I agree with this crackdown on Russia for invading Ukraine–but you are sadly right that neither China nor Islamic nations are apt to face the same, whatever the savagery of their actions–we know this from 9/11.

Uh, do you agree w/ the cancel culture being applied on Russians? Where Russian sportsmen and celebrities are being ostracized by the corporate West, Hollywood and the various sports federations? This is beyond guilt by association: just b’cos of their ethnicity or their citizenship, those Russians are being hit b’cos it’s not as easy to hit either Putin or the Russian troops actually doing all the war crimes in Ukraine
Even though I wasn’t around then, this is pretty much reminiscent of the internment of Japanese-Americans as well as Hungarian-Americans, German-Americans, Italian-Americans in WWII
Muslims would be a different issue, since there was no government and that jihad is a muslim grassroots project

I guess Joe showed them who’s boss. Problem is we the American people don’t know either.
China is having a great time keeping the pot stirred. Their only risk is blowing a lot of American dollars and they have plenty, everything in Wal-Mart comes from China and the checkout lines are long. If you want to send a message to China STOP buying their products. I know it is hard to find anything made not in China.

OLD GUY, I buy American when I can, but it is often not possible. At least I try to avoid products made in China or in Muslim countries, but you often cannot tell ahead of time.

You are at least trying, a lot of products do NOT list where the item is manufactured or assembled for the vary reason of keeping the public from knowing who their dollars are supporting. Our government could require that information on the packaging but won’t.

When something is assembled – particularly electronics parts – and has a supply chain and process chain in different countries, the country where the final assembly is done is the _____ in your ‘Made in _____’ label. This is particularly true of semiconductor manufacturing
If you wanted to make all of it here in the US, you’d first have to have a cancel culture initiated against all those consulting companies that encourage companies to outsource and offshore their manufacturing to countries like China, Vietnam, India, Thailand, Philippines et al. Until then, you won’t see this issue solved
