The Region of Waterloo is going ahead with a revised policy that aims to eradicate Islamophobia.
Councillors unanimously voted in favour of the policy Wednesday night that will see Jan. 29 recognized as a day of mourning in remembrance of the Quebec City mosque attack, anti-Islamophobia training for staff, amend the code of conduct to address harassment based on race, religion, gender identity or sexual orientation, and engage area municipalities to consider similar bylaws.
“I’m looking forward to the difficult work that is ahead and that we can find many ways as a region to continue to support this,” said Coun. Jim Erb.
A previous attempt to pass the policy failed around a month ago due to objections from key community group Coalition of Muslim Women K-W.
They noted that no money was attached to back up a program that is seeing federal funding pulled.
On Wednesday, council approved up $100,000 for the coalition’s Hate or Discrimination Reporting and Support Program for 12 months beginning on April 1.
“Islamophobia happens at the intersection of racism, xenophobia, anti-Islam, anti-Muslim biases, and prejudices,” said Fauzia Mazhar with the coalition.
Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic adds that the set of recommendations speaks to the seriousness of an increasingly disturbing trend of hate against Muslims….

I don’t see how Islam or Western Leftism (the latter not to be confused with traditional liberalism which modern Western Leftism has betrayed in sundry ways) improves mankind in any way whatsoever. Even assuming there are some good elements in Islam and Western Leftism (quite the assumption to be sure and which I for one am deeply skeptical of), all of such good can be found elsewhere in other religions or political/social/economic systems and thus, at best, Islam and Western Leftism are redundant, clearly superfluous, no need for them at all. Indeed, at worst, inimical to many fine and wonderful matters. I very much am inclined to the latter. Both my knowledge and experience require, in fact demand, that I take this view.

I concur with everything you said and I appreciate that you also laid out a clear distinction between Leftism and Liberalism as that is my position as well.
I realized over time that democracy can only function if most people are near the political center. Go too far Left or Right you get a fascist, totalitarian state. In a nutshell, both extreme poles hate free speech and want authoritarian control over the nation.
Traditional (robust) Liberalism supports all our freedoms and believes in an aggressive defense of democracy. They’re also willing to work with the other side of the aisle while Leftists are not. They just want to dominate and eliminate their opponents, it’s why we have ‘Cancel Culture’ today.
Unfortunately they’ve also proven themselves to be completely incompetent in running the state and esp. dealing with foreign and domestic enemies. Hopefully reason will return to the US and the Republicans will return to power and can undo some of the damage.
Both Leftism and Islam belong in the dustbin of history. Islam ofc is an existential threat for us all. I had hoped the Left would’ve eventually woken up and joined our side-Islam would have no chance if we were all united.
Unfortunately they decided to double down on their stupidity and aligned themselves with Muslims, which was their greatest blunder ever. If this conflict escalates into a civil war over time, they will only realize their mistake when it’s too late.
