Justin Trudeau is 50 years old — decades younger than his superannuated fellow Leftist career politicians south of the border (Pelosi is 81, Biden is 79, and California Sen. Dianne Feinstein is 88) — but he doesn’t have any new ideas. Leftists in Canada use the same old playbook as their counterparts in the United States: smear all foes as Nazis, white supremacists, bigots, racists, “Islamophobes” — whatever name or combination of names is appropriate in any given situation. And never, ever engage with their ideas. Trudeau stooped to this tactic yet again on Thursday.
The fun started when Canadian MP Melissa Lantsman, a member of the Conservative Party, challenged Trudeau in parliament by quoting him. “If Canadians are to trust their government, their government needs to trust Canadians,” Lantsman said. Then she added, “Those are the words of the prime minister in 2015. ‘These people, very often misogynistic, racist, women-haters, science deniers, the fringe.’ Same prime minister six years later, as he fans the flames of an unjustified national emergency.” She concluded with the question everyone should be asking: “When did the prime minister lose his way?” Another good question would have been, Does the prime minister even believe in a republican form of government?
Trudeau responded defiantly by taking the low road. “Conservative Party members can stand with people who wave swastikas,” he began. As outraged MPs began heckling Trudeau, he continued, “They can stand with people who wave the Confederate flag. We will choose to stand with Canadians who deserve to be able to get to their jobs, to be able to get their lives back. These illegal protests need to stop, and they will.”
Lantsman was having none of Trudeau’s nonsense. “Unbecoming as a prime minister. It’s been forty-eight hours that the government went from doing nothing to a national emergency. Forty-eight hours into using the measures. Forty-eight hours without providing parliament with a justification. So my question is simple: When will the prime minister admit that he’s lost control of the situation, that he’s lost control of his country, that he’s lost control of his caucus, and that he’s lost control of his leadership?”
Good questions all, but of course, they remained unanswered. Trudeau apparently wanted to give the impression that he didn’t have to answer to a gang of Nazis.
Dane Lloyd, another Conservative MP, hammered Trudeau on his smear. “I’ve never seen such shameful and dishonorable remarks coming from this prime minister,” said Lloyd, revealing that he hasn’t been following Justin Trudeau’s career all that closely. Lloyd then detailed actions taken by members of his own family who fought the Nazis during World War II before he said, “There are members of this Conservative caucus who are the descendants of victims of the Holocaust. For the prime minister to accuse any colleague in this House of standing with the swastika is shameful. I’m giving the prime minister an opportunity; I’m calling on him to unreservedly apologize for this shameful remark.”

I agree that accusing a Jewish person of any kind of affiliation or sympathy for Nazism is an insult. There is a problem because MANY tens of thousands of Jews fought in the German military during WWII. That includes some very high-ranking officers in the Air Force and Navy. It is my understanding of Jewish teaching that the HIGHEST rule of 613 rules (Mitzvot) identified and ranked by Rabbi Maimonides is that “ALL rules bend as necessary for the preservation of life.” Under the conditions of the time, not only were the collaborators spared from the Holocaust so were members of their families. That suggests remembering another famous rule, “Judge by the same rules that you would have applied to you.”

For those who question this story, on October 25, 2011, The Military Channel broadcast a 1 hour episode of Nazi Collaborators titled Jews Who Fought for Hitler, estimating that of 600,000 full, half and quarter Jews in Germany when Hitler took power in 1933, 100,000 served in the WWII military. Yes, Frank, there were Jews in the German military before WWII. The idea that any of them still in the service after 1933 were “fighting for Hitler” is not the case–for one thing, Germany was not yet at war.
And all Jews had been completely barred from the military in any case–and from law, medicine, and farming–by early 1935. So there were no Jews who fought for Hitler during WWII.

Dear Frank, the very fact that the Nazi command jumped through so many hoops to “prove” that Erhard Milch was Aryan shows that the implication that Jews were flooding into fight for Hitler was *anything* but the case.
And, as I noted, Milch was career military long before Hitler took over–he did *not* join the navy in order to serve Hitler.
As for Bernhard Rogge, the commander of the Atlantis, everything I can find on him cites him as the son of a Lutheran minister, and very religious himself. It is not impossible that he has some Jewish background. but I can find no reference to this. He also joined the military over a decade before Hitler came to power.
Then, many were just drafted–Gentile and some ni doubt with undiscovered Jewish heritage. They had little choice but to fight. Even non-Jewish deserters did not typically get far.
I cannot find any Jewish person who voluntarily joined up *in order to fight for Hitler*–and if they did they were either undetected as Jewish or else were sent to the camps.
As grimly efficient as the Nazis were, they did not catch everyone, certainly. There where those in both civilian and military life who slipped between the cracks.
The size of the German military during WWII about 14 million–100,000, even if accurate, is just .007%. I also wonder whether it was ever that high–in the census of 1939 there were only 300,000 Jews in Germany–although later those of “mixed marriages” and others of partial Jewish heritage were also counted, arriving at a figure of a little over a million. Although I suppose there may also have been some from Austria and other places.
I recently found out that I have some Jewish heritage–something I never suspected until my brother took a “23 & Me” genetics test. Would I and my brother and other relatives have been discovered to be part Jewish? I have no idea, and am very glad that I did not have to find out.

GI, The title of the documentary program was Jews who Foght for Hitler. I did not and do not attempt to know the motivation of the actions of anyone, especially those who lived and tried to stay alive long ago. We have discussed that I have studied Germany between the wars and during WWII, since I was in the 7th grade, more or less 1960, I figured that it was one way to learn what they did wrong that might be done better if a need arose.
If I had a choice between going into a gas chamber and oven, or fighting against what I SEE as the Communist menace, do you really have to guess which choice I would make, especially if a benefit of one choice is to save my family from those ovens? Enough Germans KNEW how Communists slaughtered in Russia and Ukraine to not want them in control in Germany. There was no other choice offered then to resist the Communists. What is our choice today in response to BLM and Antifa, clearly Communists by other labels as far as their goals are concerned?
The Jews who fought were fighting to live and protect their families as far as they could. A few might have actually fought for Hitler, but many fought for Germany, as many did in WWI with great sacrifice and distinction. This is why I write as a matter of pure fact, NOT one of condemnation, for people who did what they could to obey the First Mitzvah, “All rules bend as necessary for the preservation of life.”

When I saw the swastika I thought I wondered whether it was planted by Justin Trudeau. It certainly didn’t occur to me that most Canadians would be stupid enough to. believe that the flag carrier was representative of the protesters as a whole or even a small minority.
In any event, the true story is even worse than Justin Trudeau making an obviously stupid allegation. There was one person in the entire crowd with a swastika flag. A black protestor was interviewed and he said the person carrying the swastika flag had an Eastern European accent and was asking “is this what you want in Canada?”
So Trudeau portrayed an anti-Nazi as a Nazi and as representing the protesters and the opposition party questioning him. He is fascist scum.

As far as Ukraine goes, it was their president Leonid Kravchuk who decided to get rid of Ukraine’s nukes, and w/ good reason: their ‘football’ was in Moscow, not Kyiv. In other words, no Ukraine president could have used them w/o the Kremlin’s okay, so forget using it against Moscow. It would be like having US missiles based in Canada w/ Justin or any other Canadian prime minister having absolutely no say in when it is used
So for this particular case of Ukraine being ‘defenseless’, the US ain’t responsible – whether you name a Dem or GOP president. Ukraine made a sensible decision to remove all nukes from its territory b’cos it had control of none of them. The only military asset that it shared w/ Moscow was the Black Sea fleet
Also, the Ukraine didn’t have an issue w/ Russia until they made Ukrainian their sole official language, and removed President Yanukovich in a coup, rather than in an election. That’s what caused the Russian re-occupation of the Crimea, which ought to have been a negotiating point b/w Moscow and Kyiv, given the arbitary manner in which it was simply ‘gifted’ to the latter by native Ukrainian Nikita Krushchyev. Also, the threat of Ukraine joining NATO was what caused Russia to seize Crimea, or else NATO would have controlled Sevastopol. It also never helped that key Western foreign policy analysts gloated about Russia being a virtually landlocked country w/ the Black Sea and then the Mediterranean Sea being their only access to world shipping
I don’t believe that Russia is gonna invade Ukraine. As it is, the war in Chechnya showed the limits of the Russian military, and they wouldn’t wanna repeat that. Russia resembles Saudi Arabia in more ways than one: both countries look pretty formidable if one looks at a map, but both countries are hamstrung by being very underpopulated. Just as Saudi Arabia had to gather its allies just to face Iraq in 1991 and Yemen today, similarly Russia had its hands full w/ Chechnya in the 90s. As it is, reports of Russia pulling troops from their far east to the borders of Ukraine make them look like a laughing stock: a country like Russia should be expected to have adequate troops throughout their borders

Oh, and one thing I forgot to state: the best way that the US can ensure the security of Ukraine is by leaving NATO. One of President Putin’s pet peeves is that while the Warsaw Pact was disbanded, NATO remained. And honestly, it’s an army looking for a cause, which is why last year or the year before, they proposed making fighting Climate Change their cause célèbre. Also, as Rob Schmitt noted, NATO is a fantastic deal for every member of the alliance except the US. Not only do we pay the bulk of the bills: we also provide the bulk of the troops, and w/ the exception of the frontier states like Estonia, Latvia, et al, the bulk of NATO members are just there for a free ride
In the meantime, we have a real enemy across the Pacific in China, which is a lot more formidable than Russia given that they have 4 times our population, and probably surpass us in military AI. So we need to drop NATO and focus on China. And once we do that, it will be like disbanding NATO altogether, and Russia will no longer care whether or not Ukraine is granted membership

My belief is not that we should leave NATO to appease Russia: it was that we should leave NATO b’cos it’s raison d’être is extinct. We can sign bilateral agreements w/ frontier countries like Latvia, Ukraine, Georgia, et al w/o involving countries like Germany or France or others who look like they couldn’t care less. Also, we need to shut down bases like Ramstein which are nothing more than an employment program for local Germans – this in a country that has pretty well sabotaged us, even w/o President Biden’s stupidity on the Nord Stream II pipeline

I agree that, under normal circumstances, both the US Mexico / Canada borders as well as the Ukrainian / Russian borders need to be protected.
That being said, we are failing to protect our own borders in the United States – but are jumping to protect the Ukrainian / Russian border.
Something is drastically wrong, and the average American cannot understand what’s going on with our priorities.
Imagine how US military servicemembers deployed to Ukraine must feel when they see what is coming through our southern border: drugs / drug dealers, murderers, rapists, human traffickers, jihadists, etc.

Just in New York, 15,000 people were killed by “depraved indifference” saving the state more or less ONE BILLION dollars a year in Medicaid payments to the nursing homes. There are several episodes of Law and Order which serve as excellent, graphic illustrations of New York law on “depraved indifference”. The technical advice which guided that series is quite good.
How long could either of us keep our licenses to practice if we ignored one duty while performing another? ALL our duties must be performed to keep those hard-earned vouchers of our character, competence and fitness.

This is TRUE story which illustrates my reason to support ANY country which is threatened with invasion by tyrants. About a month ago I was actually working in the yard, something I should do more often but don’t. I heard a teenager walking in the street talking with 2 younger boys about breaking into my neighbor’s home across the street. My neighbor has been a friend of major proportions to my most important person for decades, and to me as long as I have been here. He is quite sick and has been absent from his home for several months, except for rare visits.
WE do NOT have a treaty or formal commitment for mutual defense. I take from the lesson that I am my brother’s keeper, and because I have only brothers-by-choice, accept many as my brothers, including this neighbor. I called the police to allow them to identify and remember the people who were planning a burglary. The main problem in this otherwise peaceful small town is burglary. So, if one home is entered, others will follow.
We already have a 24/7/365 video system with multiple cameras. I added lights which now illuminate my absent neighbor’s house well enough for the camera to work at night as well as day. For the moment, it appears he and I will not be visited.
