A bomb killed four people in the southern Iraqi city of Basra today, the first such attack in years in a part of the country that has enjoyed relative stability, and a senior official said Daesh militants were suspected of carrying it out, Reuters reports.
The blast, near a major hospital in the predominantly Shia Muslim city, was caused by a motorbike rigged with explosives, the military said in a statement, citing preliminary information.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
“The blast carries fingerprints of Daesh,” Basra Governor Asaad Al-Edani told reporters.
Bomb attacks in the Basra area been rare – the last major one was in 2017, and claimed by Daesh. The authorities have kept a tight grip on the area where the bulk of the OPEC member’s oil is produced and exported.

Policemen were collecting body parts from a minibus that was badly damaged by the blast, a witness said. The street was covered with broken glass and blood. The governor announced three days of mourning….
Police and hospital sources earlier told Reuters that 20 people had been wounded, in addition to the four fatalities….

Not quite, John. During Saddam Hussein’s era minority Sunnis held sway–he regularly persecuted majority Shia.
You can’t forget things like the Shia uprising in 1999, the Karbala Massacre in 1991, and the Dujail Massacre in 1982. This is just off the tiop of my head–I’m sure there was other violence.

What an accomplishment! A deep devotion to Islam is not something one keeps to oneself. The believer is expected to demonstrate just how devoted they are, through volunteer work and charitable donations. Blowing up people with your own car, for instance.

One thing you can say for Islam, they “love” the “peace” about rape and killing, therefore referred to as Islam the religion of love and peace. When they run out of infidels to attack they go after each other, so why bring them to our countries.
