While we mostly stopped talking about it, every week or so there’s a new revelation that shows that the administration lied about how many Americans it left behind and that the actual abandonment was worse than what was previously reported.
The Pentagon is stepping up efforts to get family members of U.S. troops out of Afghanistan, creating a database of the dozens who are trapped there.

If you thought that the Biden administration’s lies about a full and complete evacuation running on schedule were bad, they manage to get worse every week.
On Thursday, more than two months after the U.S. military withdrew completely from Afghanistan, Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Colin Kahl issued a memo asking any U.S. military personnel and DOD civilians with immediate family members who need help leaving Afghanistan to email his office.
I’m glad that the DOD finally found time to tackle this a few months later in between its commitment to telling servicemembers they’re racists who need to read Ibram X. Kendi and confess their white privilege.
There are still several dozen immediate family members of U.S. service members in Afghanistan, according to defense officials. Those include children, sisters and brothers, and parents. There are well over 100 extended family members still in Afghanistan, but it’s not clear how many of them want to leave the country, the officials said.
The Biden administration has been pushing this “not clear how many want to leave the country” talking point since Day 1. And yet it keeps turning out that all the people that Joe left behind enemy lines want to leave.
The official said there is real momentum to help get immediate family members out. “There is an increased desire to make sure that as we make this push that we have every situation accounted for,” the official said, adding that they are trying to “expand the reach” to make sure DOD personnel and their families are getting help.
In November. There’s “increased desire” after leaving them behind. I don’t even have the words.
The official said once the information is consolidated, the Pentagon will work with the State Department to extract family members who want to leave. The U.S. military will not have a role in actually getting the people out of the country, the official said.
Of course not. And, as usual, it’s not the whole list.
The Pentagon does not have a good accounting of how many DOD civilians still have immediate family members in Afghanistan, the officials said.

As a former Serving US Military Officer, I have no words to fully illustrate my disgust for this administrations’ failed policies, to include abandoning US Citizens, their Dependents, and those who at risk to their own lives assisted us during our time there.
As a Citizen of this Nation, I am shamed by the actions of the White House.
As a human being, I am horrified.
As a GOD fearing man, I Pray there is a special place in Hell for all those responsible for this unbelievable catastrophe.
May this Republic be shielded in future from fools and imbeciles.

He is a hack politician of half a century who is selfish, a liar, a plagiarizer, a creep, a jerk, mean throughout and very possibly a pervert as well (e.g., taking showers with his daughter assuming her recovered diary is authentic—we at least know for certain he took naked swims when Vice-President while female Secret Service agents were guarding him).
He has done no good in his life. He even voted to tax Social Security recipients twice over, first for 50% and then for 85% of the amount received, even though he has lied about being for senior citizens just as he has lied about being for the lower and middle classes in general. He is the classic example of the rich elitist who pretends to be for the common man when he is anything but. Gas prices and inflation in general, rising rapidly since this doofus was inaugurated back in January, testify to both his callousness and his incompetence. Were Trump still President, which he should be, no way we would be experiencing the many idiocies of the Brandon Administration. One knows this or should know it. How were military family members placed in a dangerous place in the first place? In the Foreign Service, if your host country is in crisis, they evacuate dependents first.
Or, are these family members of local interpreters or nationals employed by our forces?
Or, were the US personnel in question Afghan immigrants who got expeditiously naturalized after signing up? That’s what I wondered when I heard parents mentioned.

I agree with you that as “parents” are mentioned, this seems the most likely explanation for these families of US personnel being in Afghanistan.
The whole thing is a total mess in all honesty. Western powers should never have been in Afghanistan in the first place, but the withdrawal was staggeringly chaotic. A total humiliation for the US and its allies.

I can’t help thinking these ‘family members’ weren’t ‘left behind’. These are most likely Afghans, born and raised. Extended family members shouldn’t count under reunification laws. One spouse (no matter how many Islam allows) and that couple’s minor (under 18 years of age) children (NOT nieces or nephews or siblings or parents) are all that should be allowed to accompany the US service person home to America.

Well said, Wellington. It seems like a good summary of Biden. The big question is how such a scumbag of a human being has managed to have such a successful career. How such a hopeless creature can advance to such high positions is amazing. I have heard that the Biden administration, and Biden’s own approval rating, has fallen very low since the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, so maybe this shambles of a withdrawal will destroy his term as President. That photo of Biden looking at his watch is pretty disgusting and seems to to show a lack of respect. He is probably checking to see how soon he can get home to have his nap, otherwise he might doze off right there on his feet.

I have been deployed overseas multiple times to various hotspots, and I have never seen civilian family members accompany any military. What exactly is going on here? What is their reason for being in Afghanistan? There are many other questions as well. Something doesn’t seem right here.

This tragic scenario didn’t actually have to had happen in Afghanistan because the generals of the Pentagon who are strategic military advisers to the President strongly counseled Biden not to have a sharp, sudden withdrawal from Afghanistan but instead have and start a gradual drawback of the US armed forces after September 11, 2021.
The problem was that the arrogant conceited and stupid Joe Biden refused to heed or listen to the wise council of the intellects of the Pentagon. Therefore is this complete catastrophe with the Taliban total takeover of Afghanistan.
